Announcement   Announcement : AmigaOS 4.0 for Classic Amiga available now
posted by Lecta on 29-Nov-2007 23:02:40 (68069 reads)
Bassano del Grappa (Italy) - 30th November 2007

ACube Systems Srl is pleased to to announce the immediate availability of the awaited AmigaOS 4.0 for Amiga 1200, 3000(T) or 4000(T) with a PowerPC CPU, developed by Hyperion Entertainment VOF. It is now possible to benefit of all the features of this new AmigaOS release, an operating system famous for its efficiency and small footprint.

AmigaOS 4.0, thanks to its power and optimization, succeeds in using at the maximum even systems running at 160Mhz, allowing the multimedia performances and the usability everyone expects from AmigaOS.

The interest expressed towards this new AmigaOS version is so high that, actually, orders are twice than expected. This shows that the Amiga community is still strong and that it enjoys and support the efforts made by Hyperion Entertainment VOF and ACube Systems Srl to develop and promote concrete and powerful products.

It's possible to order AmigaOS 4.0 for "Classic" Amigas directly from ACube Systems or from a reseller listed on page

Congratulations must go to Hyperion, the developers, the Beta-Testers () and of course ACube. The availability of OS4.0 classic is a shot in the arm for the Amiga Community, and just what we need in these dark times.

OK so realistically it will only bring a few (1000's?) users with PPC enabled classic Amigas into the OS4.0 fold, but it it a much needed step in the right direction. Let's be totally honest - Amiga Inc abandoned the Amiga community years ago. Whatever shell games Amiga Inc's owner(s) 'may'' be playing you can be sure it is not for the benefit of continued Amiga development.

It is left to companies like Hyperion, ACube and the developers to keep the flag flying. I only hope they can survive long enough to make the current dream a reality. I urge all Amigans who can afford it, to buy a copy of OS4.0 classic, even if you don't have a PPC equipped classic amiga. At worst think of it as a donation or bounty for the continued development of OS4.0. Only with our continued support will there be any hope for an Amiga future.

Keep the faith,

TrevorDick

Great news well done to all involved.

I hope that elbox read this and get working on a cheep blizzard/cyeberstorm clone so that we can get this platform off the ground like in the old days

How would that benefit either the community, Acube or Hyperion?
If just for information purposes, I would have thought that with the current legal shinnanagins, it would be also detrimental to announce such figures.

Hello,

Thanks for all for AOS4.0.

I'm just thinking the same thing. Needed now is a PPC only accelerator card with some memory for A1200->A4000 (For IDE, elbox allready provide the needed hardware) but of course, I prefer a SAM or related new hardware.

Has AmigaOS once again changed its official logotype? Whatever font that is, it isn't Bodoni. Unfortunatly and from an estethic point of view, it is a step backwards.

No, it isn't Bodoni. But neither was Amiga International's previous choice, that was a Bodoni with bits and pieces chopped off.

It's been -- what, ten years? -- since that design was introduced. Don't you think some new design ideas are allowed by now? As for whether it's a step backwards or forwards, I guess it's all down to personal taste. I for one find it nice, clean, fresh and effective.

Best regards,

Niels

I second that, a big up to every one involved in getting this out the door.
The beta testers and translators who have given X000's of hours of their time for FREE over the last several years some times get forgotten

I too have no ppc card, but I do have several working A1200s and hope Santa brings the rest of the hardware needed.

I have an A1 but would be quite willing to buy a copy for my A1200 just to see the differences.

If Santa is kind I will post some screenshots.

Way to go Hyperion.

Hyperion rules, WHO ARE AMIGA INC?

Perhaps Acube can create a CD32 PPC accelerator and bundle it with OS4 so I can buy it!
