 | | @T-JYeah that, and the fact those products have nothing to do with anything that happened in the last 25 years of Amiga history...(and are thus Amiga "unrelated").

Maybe now some of the CUSA supporters will understand what our problem with them was.

But really I think we can finally say it the brand Amiga now means less than nothing to most people in the community as Aros and MorphOS has proved, the community will just go with what ever it enjoys the most, for me it just happens to be OS4.

Precisely. We are probably just going to have to come to terms with this and with the amiga-branded PCs.

 @DAX

I certainly don't want to buy what these new guys are selling. But I will say one thing in their defence: so far, they haven't been spamming our forums claiming to be the Second Coming or anything like that.

Hey, maybe if I defend them more proactively, they'll make me CTO of their company?

 Yup.

My point is, it's impossible to tell what CUSA's "exclusive" license is any more.

When CUSA originally announced their license for AIO PCs, some people speculated that AIO PC could include tablet, laptop, etc., as well as keyboard PC.

Now looks like (if CUSA has any monopoly at all) it's purely on Amiga-branded PC-in-keyboard, because someone else is competing in the Amiga-branded AIO and tablet market.

I sympathise with the poster who suggested abandoning the Amiga brand and having some other name for AmigaOS and AmigaOne. Just for clarity. The word "Amiga" is looking increasingly like a lost battle :(

If I were a billionaire, I'd buy the Amiga brand and license it (for free) to projects I thought were worthy. But, I'm not a billionaire, and the word "Amiga" is looking increasingly arbitrary.

 | | C=USA's license is exclusive to the AIO keyboard. The rest is not.
This is a RTO business, so pretty much a completely different market all together.

 | | well, I don't care at all..
Anyway, If I was C=USA, I would be quite angry with Amiga Inc.

Let's concentrate on AmigaOS, the rest is just confusion.

 | | @jas_mcThe first thing we should consider is that these guys for now are just vapor (Amiga branded 3D TVs at your local Saturn megastore? Don't expect them too soon...).
But in anycase I think that AmigaOS and AmigaONE are differentiating enough. The first is the name of the famous operating system we all know, the second is the name of newer computers (after the classics) created to run such famous OS.
It shouldn't be to difficult to explain to people that the rest (these and Cusa's) are just Amiga branded generic products that have "0" to do with 25 years of history.
IF (big "if" there) they will ever get out of vapor status and (possible) court rooms, that is

 | | What a great way to devalue the Amiga brand. Fortunately, similar products, e.g. the original DIVX, did not last, and you'd be hard pressed to find enabling technologies like TPM in most personal electronics. (I'm not counting set-top boxes that provide subscription-based access to content. That model is well established.) IContain's technology may not even be legal in some jurisdictions. It's very difficult to (legally) seek your own remedies in the United States. _________________

 | AmigaInc just got the idea of branding everything Amiga. |
I'm pretty sure that Amiga Inc simply lost everything else of value (e.g. AmigaDE v1/2), so now the only thing they have left to flog is the Amiga name. Particularly since (with Penti Kouri gone) there is no-one else to fund their crazy development plans.

Once they have extracted maximum value from the Amiga name (e.g. Amiga dustbins, Amiga condoms, etc) for their (foolish) investors, I rather expect them to close-up shop (rather than waste money on filing the right papers & paying tax to keep the company going). Might be a year or two before that though :-/

 Oh sweet...

I will buy the IContain Toaster...

Not the Video-Toaster, but the real bread toaster branded IContain and powered by Software AmigaOS-controlled.
