Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : Efika now at $99
   posted by adiaux on 21-May-2007 12:06:55 (12299 reads)
In this press release Genesi announces a price drop of their Efika motherboard to $99.00 (¤75.00).

At $99 you get the MorphOS 2.0 capable Efika motherboard, built around the Freescale MPC5200 System on Chip processor running at 400MHz with 128MB of 266MHz DDR RAM, on-board sound with both internal and external audio connectors (including an optical S/PDIF out connector), one 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet connector, 2x external USB1.1 connectors, one PCI slot or optional AGP slot on a riser card (included), and an on-board 44-pin IDE connector for an optional 2.5" HDD.

The price is for the motherboard alone, but it is also available in a few configurations of pre-built systems, as seen in the Genesi store.

Hi bennymee, why don't you post the specific details here and get it all out in the open.

We have no problem with that.

Then, perhaps, we might have fewer folks bashing us based on speculation and opinion.

Thanks!

We will be back again tomorrow so get all your concerns posted!

Update:

Today's blog: Biolive EFIKA is a great Project being developed at the University of Wolverhampton. You can do many things with a $99 EFIKA. One thing that would be great would be to rebuild the Amiga Community. We are hoping to do that too.

And that is amiga spirit. Make money with linux on efika, and build amiga community once again. I believe efika would not be so cheap if it were to have only mos.

Question for bbrv:

I heard of amiga shop in serbia, intented for ex-yu customers (www.amigastyle.net) with prices like in your shop. What has happened with it?

I was thinking of making this a private message, since I really don't want to discuss this here/now with all the 'cheerleaders' in the public fora. But since you asked so nicely

(And please forgive me if I let some personal feelings into the mix here, can't help it. And I'd love to be proven wrong and/or get Your (bbrv) personal opinion on the matter at hand. I do like the "rebuilding the Amiga community" -theme. But an Amiga community without AmigaOS ?

If it gets personal or OT feel free to use PM.

But first,
@Boot_WB

You mean like advertising that software like MS Office, MS IE, or perhaps hardware like MS Optical mice are available for Apple computers.
I should have said Apple promoting Microsoft Windows, etc. But I thought you'd get my point anyway Sure even the automobile industry works together at some level. But that doesn't prevent BMW from defending itself from exploitation from Audi or whomever.

The way I see it Genesi has done more to "hurt" Amiga in that past than any other company or individual. I guess that's part of why this discussion is taking place in this particular news item. But I can't blame them, failing to acquire the Amiga brand so many times must have bottled up a lot of anger over the years. Of course all that is gone now with the success of the Pegasos and MorphOS. But the damage is already done.

Now, with that said, I'll be the first to congratulate bbrv if and when they seal a deal with Amiga, Inc. for a license of AmigaOS4 on the Efika. I truly will. Probably get the hardware too, it'd dirt cheap ( < - - that's me being on topic)

Quote:
The rest of the computing world realised interoperability was more profitable than tribalism, ie they grew up. Isn't it about time the Blue/Red worshippers did the same?
First off, take a peak at ANY Intel/AMD forum and you'll find out that isn't entirely true

But still, I'm not a person who can't and won't change my opinion, and I couldn't agree more that working together would be better for all of us. That's not the problem. My problem is when one takes advantage of the other and tries to gain ground by exploiting others.

Just because many of the die-hard-AmigaOS-fans have left AmigaWorld doesn't mean all is forgotten and forgiven. bbrv have done a lot of damage, and I guess the lack of an AmigaOS license for the Pegasos/Efika kind of proves just that.

Woo, will you look at that. I've spent my 30 minutes defending Amiga and complaining on Genesi that I had set away for 2007.

/shoe

It is a shame Genesi did not find a way to screw over Amiga Inc and hyperion and aquire the os because if they did then people would be using the damn os rather than reading announcements of announcements of announcements etc.

Love him or hate him, the guy delivers unlike Amiga Inc and hyperion..

What would be the fun in that? Getting AmigaOS 4.0?

If we would, we couldn't sit here all day, complaining

Yeah, i find it hilarious how the ...removed word... of the community (Bill Buck) turns out to be the only one actually delivering products in this microscopic market while the hailed "Amiga heroes" which should be the "Amiga zeroes" have delivered nothing whatsoever, unless selling faulty hardware and a OS3.9 ppc hack is what some would call an achievement.

Best to site back and watch them crumble.

'm sad to say that with the long line of anti-Amiga trolling and negative attitude AmigaWorld has done more damage than good in the last year. I apologise if this is a slap on the face for the aw.net Staff, but wasn't this one of the main reasons for the Staff-split when Amigans.net was started? Personally I do understand why this happened, and it is sad indeed.

Oh please, what parts of our communications you have not understood?

But for Genesi and Bill Buck I wouldn't be using any amiga like hardware or software. Uae
suxxx. It's not an excuse saying that BBRV had done so much damage in the past. Amiga Inc.
hasn't done anything apart from futile promises. I have a funny feeling that they do everything
in order to do nothing.

@tomazkid,

Like I said, I might have let some personal feelings into the mix here. And most of it is ancient history and hopefully won't matter soon. But still, with all the confusion around here I can't help feeling that the community itself is responsible for at least some of it.

But like someone said, if it weren't for Genesi (and all this "confusion/excitement") many of us wouldn't be here today

Regards,
/shoe

p.s. I might not be making much sense here and whatnot.

@bbrv,
looking forward to it

@glittering

Your actions hurt the community at large.

They detract, not add allure to MOS.

They also mess up an otherwise nice product announcement.

Also posting distortions and half truth only further hurts whatever credibility you had.

@all

The question I keep asking and nobody is answering is...
When is MOS gonna be released for this baby. I don't want another linux box no matter how sweet.

Also If MOS2.0 is released will it be extra if so how much?

IF MOS is ready for this board I will purchase it right now. As it would be a reall handy demo board to demonstrate MOS on.

I also agree, his tone isn't the best way to suit his cause, which in the end should be that of any's amigan, the prospering of an Amiga like OS.
