hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : SAM460Lite & AmigaOS4.1 for DjNick bounty
   posted by kas1e on 6-Jan-2012 11:22:26 (18482 reads)
Most of DjNick's music and graphics was done on Amiga back in the days, and now, he want to help AmigaOS4 to get some better design by making improved skins, icons and graphics. But its pretty hard to be working effectively on gfx design of OS and OS components, when you don't own the actual machine. So, this bountys aim is to get Nikola a sam460EX Lite motherboard & AmigaOS4.1 licence. The Sam460 is EUR 610,- excl. shipping and vat. So we should end at around EUR 850,- which is what we are trying to collect.

Do you remember the days when Amiga was popular because of our skilled artists, who contributed stunning tunes and graphics for amiga games, demos and apps? Sure you remember those days. Many of us was attracted to Amiga because of that.

One of the old-known graphic artist and musicians is DjNick (Nikola Tomic, from Serbia). He contributed for Amiga community back in the past with f.ex. non-commercial music video for a goa-trance song with the name "Warp", which features 3D animations made in LightWave. You can check that video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD_AltKxwwo
DjNick also Composed music and sound effects for Amiga game "Capital Punishment" for Canadian Publishers "ClickBoom". It was the top Seller "beat’em-up" game in 1996, with music and SFX scores as high as 97% in some computer magazines.

Some recent work of DjNick can be seen on the freshly done AmigaOS4 site http://amigaos.net, which was done to help Hyperion to have a good looking and professional site. Just check all the links below, where you can find most of DjNick's work (music, graphics etc.).

http://www.djnick.rs
http://djnick2k.deviantart.com/gallery
http://www.behance.net/djnick
http://www.coroflot.com/djnick
http://www.youtube.com/djnykk
http://www.graphicriver.net/user/djnick/portfolio?ref=djnick

The work Nikola will do as compensation for the motherboard+OS is outlined belov. Keep in mind that this will be not be official work managed by Hyperion, but 3rd party contributions from a skilled graphic artist.

1. New AOS4 themes (At least one new stylish theme).

2. New Frames for MUI (version of MUI, which will be released in AmigaOS4.2). Those frames can also be used on Morphos's MUI4, so MOS-users can contribute as well;)

3. New MUI themes (At least one new stylish theme). As we soon will have an updated MUI(4?), themes can also be used for MorphOS MUI4 as well.

4. New AOS4 backdrops (1, 2 or more).

5. New AOS4 icons for different kind of projects/games/demos/mags/apps (1, 2 or more, depends).

6. Workbench loading audio samples with female voice.

7. AmigaOS video presentations and animations on Youtube with examples what Amiga can do today.

Understand that this is the minimum work that will be done as compensation for the bounty, much more will hopefully come in the future.

With this bounty we can attract a good designer that loves Amiga computers and it's OS, please make a donation today.

Now €875.

Its pricy to post in this thread. :) Maybe this is the solution to the troll problem. If we all had to pay €0.1 for each post we would fill up the bountys and get rid of the trolls.

Workbench loading audio samples with female voice This is getting more awkward and embarassing for every minute. Sigh...

If its a sexy voice (unlike robot one in "Commodore" "OS") that wouldn`t be embarassing

Its over €900 so far! Fantastic!

I also can't wait to try Digibooster after so many years!

Vox, I will drop u a call to ask some questions about receiving stuff and something about taxes. I know nothing about it. I use MoneyBookers for receiving money only and it works great. I hope receiving motherboards is also easy as I hope :)

I am very happy I will be Amigan again after nearly 10 years of pause :)

I am sure you all will be satisfied with my gfx work :) Finally I will create my dream machine I will be proud of!

Next candidate for Sam - Andrija Antonijević (author of HTTPResume, Charon, AMISSL).
http://amiga.power-audio.com/intervju/AndrijaA_EN.html
Second pick Bojan Milović - Arthist
http://amiga.power-audio.com/intervju/cybo_eng.html

Of course those are suggestions I don't know is there interest of those two to work on OS4 or community to donate to them. :)

@comi

both of them are wonderfull people, i have worked with both before
Andrija: only testing his software and we also chatted about os4 compability and how to make his apps work better.
At one point he went away :(

Bojan:
wonderfull gfx artist, would be great to get him interested in Amiga again (i didn't know he had lost interest :()
I still use his Yam theme among other stuff from his website (which is now dead... just a few weeks ago i wanted to look it up).

if you can get in touch with them, do it

It is easy after you pay the import taxes gouvernment puts on our weary shoulders

Since bounty is a major success, it would be good to submit recipient information to Amiga bounty who should use it to purchase you full SAM 460 board (seems there is enough money). This MUST include contact telephone in +381 format since no doubt you will be contacted when parcel comes to Belgrade and it should be noted to Acube to put this information either on the package or on the bill inside since inspectors will open it anyway. "Fragile" marker on the package would be nice.

My compliments and may Amiga serve your creativity!
Sorry I was unable to contribute at this time, saving for SAM 460 of my own

Sad to hear both Andrija and Bojan lost interest. They both made good stuff :)

Its posts like this you get that thinking..."damn i havent seen/hear from them for ages" and then you know why its so silent with new apps/gfx etc. Many good guys leaves.

@DJ Nick

Will be nice to hear a review of digibooster from you when you tried it out. Im little curious myself but i mostly misses midi support, at least midi Out to control my viruses :(

Probably a stupid question, but why does somenone needs a OS4 machine to make garphics? OS4 machines should go to coders not graphic artists or musicians, they can do that work in any machine they have.

Because its not about making only backdrops or any kind of music. Its about making new themes (which can be done only when you have by hands actual OS, as theme preferences have a lot of quirk, tweaks, options, moments and all the other stuff which you just can't know when you not have os by hands).

How he can do new mui themes , or frames, if he do not have mui on any os, and he can't know, how it should be done, what can or what can't be changed (and where) ? How he can know what frames is it , and how they will looks like in real ? Should he every time send to someone his work, so other ones will make a screenshot how it looks like, and send him back, and he again will change something , again mail, again wait and so on.

That all the same as with coders : they can do aos4 bins without aos4. But who will do that without actual os and ability to check how it reacts in end ? No one , the same with designers (designer not mean making backgrounds only).

It also gives a better impression overall to do whichever design with the actual system it's going to be (first) used on.

@Thematic

Anyway its woth-less to try to explain the stuff. Because all that questions in general mean only that "why you spend a money for designers, when we need a coders". But dunno why they can't see, that there is no coders at all who even will do something, for os4, or mos, or aros, even with free machine by hands.

@all

Did any of you, know any coder, who prove itself as good coder, and who want to be coder on os4, if we will send him a machine ? Anyone ?
