| After reading the interview, I am very happy that AOS is in the hands of a company whose CEO knows what a GT3 is, much less wants to own one.
(BTW, it's a very fast street legal version of a racing Porsche 911)
Oh, yeah, and all that other stuff about using AOS as the basis of a technology platform for an as-yet-unnamed tech company is pretty good, too. _________________ Tony T.

It's not that bad mate!
Me, I've been married for 25 years and waiting for OS4 for (it seems) as long.

| I thought the man was very humerous :)) I laughed quite a few times.
HE does seem to have his head screwed on right, he does seem to think he can make money from the product OS4, that does mean that OS4 relase looks pretty certain. He does think that the current user base will expand and has reasnable expectations of potential. He doesn't have a very good understanding of what the OS is, but he does have a very good understanding of buisness and its requirements. He also does see this OS as another computer OS solution with a future of making money.
All in all, I think this OS will have a future with this person. At the very wourst case scenero, it will see a release or two. _________________ It's not the question that's the problem, it's the problem that's the question.

| It just popped in my mind that ...
So far KMOS has not shown any specific interest on the continuation of desktop AOS. (not any big surprice, there is very small (too small) market there currently)
They indicate that there is some specific telecommunication/broadband media/whatever need/use/market for AOS.
I think that we (users and developers) again need to show that the desktop AOS continuation is worthwhile. We should show that we can produce appealling content for AOS. And that AOS can be used as a good desktop tool in that process.
AOS could also be the "stand alone SDK" for the telecom/whatever side of things. Same stuff, perhaps packed a little bit differently, could be sold as AOS4.x for Amigans.
I think it is also crusial that desktop AOS will remain simple so that it fits for the main telecom/whatever use without big changes, so that those two are not split to different R&D branches.
Anyway. Very good thing that Garry is handling AOS stuff! Good interview etc. Seems to be pretty sane person. | Crikey!
I go away for a while and, when I come back, someone's moved the furniture!
I have to echo what others have said and praise Garry for his apparent open and honest attitute - I have a lot of faith in his ability to keep things rolling.
I wish you and your team the world of success. _________________ Folding@Home Team AmigaWorld no: 33424

| Actually....just do as I do and read both sides then come to your own conclusions! Your post is as one-sided as the ANN ones you are pointing an accusing finger at.
If you still come to your black and white opinion...it shows you didn't read (between the lines) well enough.
I may be blue inside and red on occasion when I see the quality of posts from certain people (on both 'sides') but definately no double standards here
One who prefers the 'freedom' of ANN but is smart enough to actually read and listen....

| Hi, many of you know me as MarkTime, though I use my real name at Amigaworld...anyway, I just want to say, I like this man, Garry Hare.
Great post, now don't make any more
All is right again, in Amigaland. I mean it...I like the explanation, I believe it, I don't regard myself as a fool, and I look forward to OS 4, and I don't care much for pegasos.
It would be nice if they (eyetech) would get the price down, but volume would almost have to accomplish that.
Look forward to the future... |

| Great interview -- Many Thanks to AWNet and Garry Hare (Welcome Garry)! So, it would seem that the whole goofy business card incident was both fake and genuine at the same time. The cards were fake but the fact that Garry was handing them out was genuine. I had a great laugh over that. Judging from his answers Garry seems to know how to run a business, and he's not emotionally involved with the Amiga in any way -- that might be the best thing for it. I wonder how long he will remain at KMOS. I've noticed that CEOs tend to skip around a lot these days; from what I've seen they either run a place into the ground until they finally get fired by the board, or they build a company up until it's doing very well, then get bored and quit and go somewhere else. Let's hope the position (and the business!) is lucrative enough that he'll want to stay a while. :o) He's got a great sense of humor which is a prerequisite for wading into the sorry legal mess he got handed. I sincerely hope now that AOS4 appears to be in safe hands and AInc is out of the picture (sort of) that developers will regain an interest in this platform and new ones (a lot of them) will be attracted. It remains to be seen, though, just what exactly KMOS really intends to do -- It's more "wait and see". I also sincerely hope this idiotic legal battle can end soon -- I can't afford any more cracked teeth from all the popcorn I've been eating. Regards, Kay |
