"With availability of the new connectors in _september_ of this year, individual Computers ensures the legal availability of Amiga 1200 hardware. Special thanks goes to _ACK_ software controls Inc. from Canada, who have ordered a large quantity of these connectors for the first production run of the PowerVixxen accelerator."

Good to hear that things are progressing and new hardware is coming (for the classic).

@all

Most people trust Jens Schönfeld of Individual computers because he's designed and produced quite a bit of Amiga hardware. Given that he's announced RoHS compliant A1200 connectors and thanked Adam from ACK who "ordered a large quantity of these connectors for the first production run of the PowerVixxen accelerator", can we now agree that Adam really is working on the Powervixxen. No-one's going to buy a "large quantity of connectors" for the heck of it. Of course, he still has to actually finish the design and deliver, but if he's close enough to completion to be buying components in production quantities then it can't be too far off.

@Hans

I believe that was the point SZAMAN was also trying to make when quoting the section of the article that he did.

Still, this isn't going to stop some people from finding something else to complain about...

Right... and the date says September for the connectors, so it will be at least three more months before a production run of the PV LT could happen anyway. That gives Adam some time to work on the CPU problem with the other board if he still plans to bring it out.

I'm looking forward to the PowerVixxen...

I got enough A1200 motherboards here, would love to have a PV :D

As soon as I get a bit of money saved loads of Amiga hardware that I want seems to pop up...

i.e. Blizzard PPC I just bought, A600 Clockport/clock/ram, A600 accelerator.. and maybe soon the PowerVixxen...and even possibly A1 CPU modules... I'm gunna be poor by December.. lol

But, hell, what a way to go broke!

Reminds me of a saying about three ways (for a company) to go broke:
The surest way is by taking chances, by far the finest way is by women and the fastest way is by using computers.

Looking forward for a (Adam's) CPU-upgrade for my A1.

Maybe he is working on real cards but thats no proof. Same goes for the anouncements. We are still waitung since over 2 years for some kind of pictures to see that there is something real.

It won't, since we all know that Adam is working on things, what we don't know is whether it will bring forth any results.
About your claims that "if hardware wasn't coming, they'd stop the project", we know now that the only reason for which they haven't stopped is the deal with that Aerospace company. That is an embedded deal, it doesn't guaranty that we'll get desktop hardware.

@AMIGR

The deal with Smiths aerospace is for driver software rather than for OS4 itself.

So again I make the point about OS4, "if hardware wasn't coming, they'd stop the project",

@PowerUP

It's true that we still need to see some solid proof from Adam. However, we have now heard from a trusted third party that he has bought the A1200 connectors in large quantities. This has to add a certain amount of credibility to the Powervixxen project.

Of course, this announcement is no guarantee that we'll get a working Powervixxen LT. Things can still fall apart. However, claims that Adam's making it all up just sound completely baseless and stupid now, at least to me.

You have missed Ben Herman's comment about this on #amigaworld then. He specifically said that the project would had stopped had it not been for the funding from the Smiths Aerospace deal and that they (Smiths) have access to new OS4 modules, which obviously means that it's more than driver software.

@PowerUP / Hans

Even if pictures were produced and shown, that would not silence the critics. We would then just have threads about how it was photoshopped or faked or not showing it working or some other conspiracy theory dreamt up in a drunken stupor one night after a curry too many.

Nothing seems to satisfy a lot of people. About the only thing that would satisfy them, is the hardware both being available an/or demonstrated, and that isn't going to happen for a fair bit of time.

@Hans

Well, technically, it does not say that ACK have bought an order of connectors, what it does say is that they have placed an order. You can place an order for something and still decide in the end that you won't need it and cancel the order. Nothing is guaranteed by that statement. We just have to wait and see if Adam ever decides to give more information.

Not trying to be negative, just pointing out that it's not so black and white.

@Herewegoagain

Nothing is ever completely black & white. I have already said it doesn't guarantee anything and the Powervixxen could still be cancelled. Not many people would place a large order if they think they'll probably cancel it later. ACK Controls is a control systems company so placing and then cancelling orders would be very bad for business.

What it does do is suggest very strongly that he is working on the Powervixxen and is closing in on preparing for manufacturing. Some people have been suggesting that he's a fraud and isn't doing anything. If you trust Jens Schönfeld then this announcement refutes that.

Beyond this, we're still waiting for Adam to show us something.

Hans

For sure, if I were Adam I would not release any more information. There is no pleasing a lot of these ill mannered, vocal people. With all the BITCHING they are doing it is difficult to believe they are adults.

On the OS4 website it says the deal is for driver software, so if you have different info from an official source then please post it for us all to read.

Ok so Ben Herman said if it wasnt for the aerospace deal OS4 developement would have stopped, since it has continued and the deal is only for driver software (as verified by the link I provided to the OS4 website) i'll let you draw your own conclusions as to why. Also, why would Adam have ordered a supply of connectors from Individual Computers if his products were only vapour?

Thanks Individual Computers for making these connectors and helping the Amiga community.

The statement actually proves quite a bit. For a start why would Adam have ordered a quantity of connectors if his products were only vapour?
