@SoundSquare

And what have you been producing lately then?
No AGP is not their fault now is it?

These 90 degree traces look rather funny - autorouting? Is it a good idea to place the memory so far away from the CPU? That might cause problems...

Thx.

Looks very pro and not like being assembled in a garage

Now if only AOS4 would run on it, I would buy one at once!

@Soundwhatever

No need to be so harsh...

You might want to enlighten us with your own project...and show us how it's done...

It's nice to see pictures of a new board...

But do you think we could get a picture of the underside of the board too?

Well, for embedded development and all that I would really
be able to work with it headless, which means Uboot must
support the USB-Serial nullmodem cable as well.

So you want to use a serial port to control U-Boot? I don't know whether you can use a USB keyboard with U-Boot, maybe someone else does. All my keyboards are PS/2.

Can't serial interface be possible with an external USB->serial interface?

That would require the USB stack and a good portion of the OS to be up and fully running, defeating the whole purpose of sending output to the serial port. It also adds another possible failure point - if the USB stack or anything it depends on crashes, no more output.

With a normal 16550 serial port you can bang the hardware directly if necessary and get output right up to the instant your code goes pop.

OT ON

Just read yesterday that China does block many western world sites because they don't want infos from the west to be accessible in China.
Even the big western publishers (Reuters, APF, CNN, BBC...) have to ask permission before sending or printing infos!!!

OT OFF

But I can email you the pix if you don't have them yet?

TonyW::
Yes, booting machines over nullmodem is standard for me when I'm
configuring new servers and real obscure platforms.

I really hope Uboot supports USB-keyboards or that they update it
otherwise you can't even use the Amy'05.. I wouldn't worry about that.

I hope the IDE connectors will have REAL sockets and not just those cheap pins?

you will see standard ide connectors in the released version. What color Black, white, red?

Amy has yet to get her makeup on.

I see two camps building on this, one wants a serial port, and one wants a complete break away usb connectors.

We have several ways for "legacy" serial, out of the Geode chip for one, and we are using for some HW testing in this model. So maybe what we can do is leave a serial port header installed and everyone is happy?

Excellent feedback DrBomcrater @all, this is what we are looking for.

btw: if you look at the IBM CPU right to left you will see very few wire connectors etc. We were looking for max airflow.

setenv stdin usbkbd
saveenv

although i'm guessing on systems with no PS/2, that will be the default anyway; otherwise how do you type it?

the Geode chipset has a built in feature called USB Keyboard. USB can tap into that.

Plus our other board "project Panda" uses a standard usb port. So it will be a SW must.

Great! Thanks for the feedback JB. These pics are very encouraging, but you know that I'm really anxious about "Panda". I still may pick up an Amy 05 (depends on final price) as soon as you get the OS4 license thing worked out.

Troika:
Yeah, leave a serial header for us who want one. Why
did you place the SDRAMs so far away from the CPU
and northbridge? Why did you use so sharp turns
for the powerlines? And where is the grounding?

Have this in mind for the final production version.

Mod's Note:Attack on moderation edited. Ironfist, one more attack on moderation in a public manner, will give cause for a suspension.

You have been warned.

They should have ground and supply planes between the signal layers of the PCB. I have no idea how many layers this board has but there should be at least four, probably more.

Maybe so, but the mounting holes look so naked with no grounding.
