Are you saying that, if AE5 gets released for AOS4, we are going to be able to use VST? Now that would be sweet _________________ You can crack anything with your head, even the head itself. -------------------------------- ...proud AOS user since 1993 --------------------------------

| Nice Davy! Seems like I can make that support buy now
So 4.0.x is the last fully native OS4 version? Last edited by Samwel on 05-Oct-2006 at 05:05 AM.

No way, Teddy. The VST SDK would have to be ported to AOS4 first, which Steinberg will neither do nor allow. They don't plan to support Linux, much less AOS4. _________________ The Rear Window blog

Why the fith version will not be a native version ? .. :-| | It will be...when someone does a native wxWidgets port, along with native ports of anything else AE5 needs :) _________________

Which is fair enough considering that people *still* cannot buy OS4 with hardware. _________________ Sam

Currently, AE4/5 has been almost completely ported to wxWidgets except for the audio part. It also uses the libsndfile library to read different audio formats and handle endianness. I am using that already on the OS4/X11 port, so that's no problem. Furthermore, parts of eXtream will be used as the mix engine, so the only system dependant part would be talking to the audio drivers. I may use RtAudio for that, which supports ASIO and Core Audio (and ALSA for that matter), but I'll have to investigate that further. On OS4, I could just use eXtream.
FYI, I'm now working on eXtream again (which had been on hold since January when I started my port of AE) which will also benefit OS4. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com

Unless wxWidgets is ported to OS4/Reaction ofcourse, like has been said. It was either doing this or forgetting about AE at all on any platform. In this way, there is at least a chance that it may run on OS4/X11. The amount of effort to have two source trees for both 'platforms' is far too much for the returns it gives. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com

| I hope the gets Dave some more sales. The timing's typically off for me - I recently spent my music software budget on Logic Express which, at £85, is a very nice piece of software. Now, after a summer of festivals and parties, overdrafts and credit cards all at bursting point, I can barely afford to go for a pint.
Still, at under £35, I'll hopefully be able to rustle that up this side of Christmas

Although AE5 runs partly on OS4/X11 as well, some technical issues with wxWidgets on OS4/X11 must be resolved first before AE5 can be released on OS4. AE5 will feature multi-channel recording and the use of VST effects and/or Audio Units.

Does this mean I could run AE5 on both my A1 and Mac and, if so, would there be a deal for dual-platform purchasers? _________________ Robert -- A1XE G4, OS4.1. Peg1 G3, MOS 1.4. Abel Soul - Check out our tunes on Spotify

Yes, although you need 2 executables. There will be a discount for dual or triple purchasers indeed. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com

Missing threads, performance and different behaviour in some respects. Without the threads, the same code compiles, links and starts. The timeline window looks reasonable already. The mixer window has major issues, but I haven't looked into that yet. All in all, it seems sluggish. I should try it under Linux as well, to see if a similar thing happens. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com

No, sorry, no VST or Audio Units on AmigaOS, it's not possible. |
Yes, I presumed so, remembering now all those threads where you talked about that same issue. I asked my question without thinking it through(happens alot to me, lately ) Well, never mind, I'm all for live instruments anyways .
Dave, I wish you all the luck with AE5 on other platforms and I look forward to use your app, hopefully on AOS4 when it comes out. _________________ You can crack anything with your head, even the head itself. -------------------------------- ...proud AOS user since 1993 --------------------------------

Note that AE5 won't support VSTinstruments, just VST effects, since AE does not have a MIDI sequencer, so that would be useless. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com
