As is tradition, Cubic can be acquired at a drastically reduced price for a few dark days before Christmas - take advantage of it while stock lasts and get your complete package for editing and software development (AmigaOS, MorphOS).

With Cubic, you can edit and check HTML documents, write and compile software, localize programs, edit Hollywood multimedia scripts, create installations or write AmigaGuide documentation.

Shipped on CD-ROM or as ISO image download.

That was a surprice actually! Didn't know it had functionality for creating HTML tags I've only used it for C programming (so far!)...

Being able to create installers is also a nice feature I could have use for that I didn't know existed...

As CubicIDE doesn't support the latest AmigaOS4 SDK, I'll post a link to an installation tutorial I wrote. Perhaps some will find it useful:

@Trixie

Your guide dose not work as CubicIDE will not let you install the required the C/C++ Add-On package without the old version of the AmigaOS4 SDK.

As you can no longer download the old version of the SDK it is not possible to use your instruction to do a new install only update an old one.

@dietmar
First thanks for all the hard work CubicIDE is an excellent package and I am very glade I took up the offer last Christmas while I was still waiting on my sam440ep and OS4.1 being delivered.

Any chance of an update so people without the old SDK can still install and use the C/C++ Add-On for OS4 development.

> will not let you install the required C/C++ Add-On package

Actually, there are two C/C++ packages:
1) The Cubic C/C++ add-on, which should install under any OS4 version. It provides generic C/C++ support, e.g. syntax highlighting.
2) The devkits sub-installation, which is run during the C/C++ add-on installation. It contains compiler/SDK installations for specific packages in the "contributions" directory.

devkits contains an Installer-type installation for the 51.22 SDK and its file names. 51.22 must be placed in the contributions/os4-sdk/SDK_Install folder before installation begins (I wrote the installation before I had permission to include the SDK on the CD-ROM, which never came). Unless you follow Trixie's guide, compiler-related menu items in Cubic's C/C++ menu will not be available. Cubic will however have a generic C/C++ editing mode.

> Any chance of an update so people without the old SDK can still install and use the C/C++ Add-On for OS4 development

The owner of the SDK probably won't permit redistribution of the SDK. You can see what that means: work invested in supporting it is rendered useless on the day a new SDK is released, or when the SDK download link disappears due to server problems. The chance for an upgrade without a redistributable SDK are slim.

One could get around the problem of a non-redistributable SDK by providing a framework that just uses the installed SDK and by giving up the current devkits approach, ie. no central compiler switchboard. That would take away useful features, such as compiler switching, non-native SDK installation (which I need myself under UAE), integration of vbcc etc. Neither would such a redesign remove the possibility that a major SDK update or an offline server render the work useless. Still, the chance for this type of upgrade is better.

For now, I suggest that new OS4/Cubic users locate 51.22. Ask Hyperion for a copy, then follow Trixie's upgrade guide. Before that, let devkits install 51.22. This will put things in place that can be edited.

@Trixie
Is this true? Does your guide only work with a pre-installed old SDK? I'm thinking about CUBIC but it is only useful if I can fiddle it to work with the new SDK...

That's possible. I have all the public SDKs installed for the sake of reference, so I haven't actually checked whether it works when there's no SDK. You better do what Dietmar recommends: install SDK 51.22 first to have Cubic put things in place, then install 53.15 according to the tutorial.

Thanks for the report, I'll edit the tutorial accordingly.

Sadly that is easier said than done at the moment as the old SDK is not available to download at the moment.

You'll notice that when Cubic is in the C/C++ mode, the "Change Compiler" menu still shows "Target: amigaos4 (gcc 4.0.4)" for the GCC compiler. You may want to edit this menu item in Cubic's settings (Extras/Customize...) for file type "gcc".

I followed the instructions, till I got to this step. I cannot change the string! Could you be more specific on how to edit this stuff (step-by-step)?
Thanks in advance.

@Cass

Cubic's way of editing strings in the settings is rather weird. You must do a very slow double click, otherwise you'll just get the properties window opened, instead of entering the string.

Slow click or F2, same as in Windows.

Slow click or F2,

Thanks for that tip, using F2 is a *lot* easier than the slow click. I never knew before that you could do that.)

This has just made my GOldEd usage so much more easy

Blumming heck.

Actually C programming is only my latest use for Golded. For years it has been the way to write webpages, Amiga Guides, Installer scripts, Arexx scripts and Amiga DOS scripts. With a home made environment I could even use it to create HiSoft Basic sources - not that this is any use to me now as HSB does not work with OS4 at all.

Cubic (as it seems to be called now) is brilliant for syntax highlighting and using scripts to have environments for almost any type of text editing you need. I use it every day and come to think of it would be quite lost without it, whether for doing C stuff, or writing the documentation and even the installers as well. Not forgetting the web pages too. And of course any Arexx scripts you may want to use.

@All
Thanks to another helpful Cubic IDE user I now have a copy of the older version of the required SDK and am setup and ready to use CubicIDE to build for OS4.

So if any one is being put off taking advantage of this great offer by the lack of availability of the old SDK for OS4 I would encourage them to take up the offer as other Amiga OS4 user and developers can be relied on to provide help to anyone having problems getting setup with Cubic IDE
