The Register

Apparently somebody from the Register staff was present at the VCF show and has reported on the AmigaOne X1000.
Positive news item.

Mod note: this news item was also submitted by HyperionMP, so this is a mix of both, to get a bit more content to this news item

Son of Transputer powers new Amiga box - Programmable logic
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/06/21/amiga_x1000/

---Breaking News ABOUT The following Advert---
This advert is being served to NORTH of 1 million unique visitors / YEAR now...
Its been a long running project of mine, hence my recent ranting about Google's unfair and un-welcome removal of the country specific radio button searches.

http://amiga.easypocketmoney.com/AmigaBannerAdvert_600X116.gif

So as you can see this will need to be updated to reflect the new Amiga Sam460 and Amiga X1000 systems and perhaps even NatAmi. Any volunteers welcome.

They already did - suggesting their alternatives. They have resources, you have to admit.

@mikey_c
Look at the comments to that article. They are already raining on the parade like usual. I bet amiga.org is full of negative reactions from other camps as well. ;\

Huh ????

Do you read different comments than I do ????

Someone asked wether it would run on his G5 (since it's PPC), and got an 100% onspot answer......

If thats enough to "rain your parade" it wasn't much of a parade to start with .....

@amigappc

Yes I noticed that. I wasn't aware there was an OpenOffice port in the works - if there is, it's the best kept secret.

Even MicroMart in this weeks Amiga column makes mention of an OO port.

@amigappc
A lightweight/cut down port of openoffice has been in development for a while now.

Yes, I seem to remember reading about OO for kids (cut down version) being in deveopment in one of Trevor's interviews. A great piece of news!

@Kronos

maybe he was speaking about this:

"does it mean that I could run AmigaOS on my PowerMac G5?"
No it doesn't. They want you to buy their £1500 custom board instead.
MorphOS ( http://www.xxxnet/ ) runs on some PowerPC Macs (mini, emac), and does run amiga software out of the box as well. Here's the list of the compatible hardware: http://www.xxx-team.net/hardware.html
And download link for the ISO image: [removed advert here]"

pathetic :-/

@Framiga

Yes, so what ??

Do you really think if the newsitem had been for Ubuntu and someone had brought up that Suse had feature x or supported y anybody would make a fuss about it ?

Pathetic indeed ......

I tell you what I find pathetic.

Pathetic how every time AmigaOS gets a mention on a news site, the MOS and AROS community have to go in and try and steal some of the limelight, because the users can't get together to create the same sort of Buzz or indeed, get together and attend computing events as their own community instead of hanging on to Hyperion's Coat tails because they are not able to make it on their own

That, is pathetic.
Prove me wrong, at the next Amiga event, have your own areas.
