Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : Twenty-Five Years of Development
   posted by Rogue on 4-Aug-2010 20:05:59 (27787 reads)
As a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Amiga computer, Hyperion Entertainment has made a video using the Gource CVS visualization software showing a time-compressed version of 25 years of Amiga development, from the early days of AmigaOS 1.0 to the present. Personal commentary added by one of the current core full-time AmigaOS developers, Hans-Joerg Frieden (a.k.a. "Rogue")

13 abuse records and still active on this forum, I don't know why I still bother to report that annoying troll.

@all

Perhaps I am naive, but I posted an advisement to AmigaHeretic on the prior page. He did not post after that in this thread. I was momentarily pleased.

So, help me understand this...why did most of you NOT return to the topic at hand when I gave you that opportunity?
Why did you make the conscious decision to go right back to the topic of AmigaHeretic?

Please don't respond to my query here. I'm trying to restore the topic after all.

@Number6 for MODERATOR!!
But I think you are a little naive, lot's of people have asked Heretic (in a nice way) to stop trolling, it never helped.

Most if not all people (ALL except you commenting Heretic in this thread have already commented and discussed the video's, perhaps there's not much more to say... apart from great videos.

And please don't post queries if you don't want an answer.

@Rogue, HyperionMP

Any plans to update/supplement the video on a regular basis?

It would be nice to have a 6-monthly visual update as to what's been progressing...

Perhaps a video at every AOS4 release/update?

Sorry "AmigaOne" is not Amiga

Mine certainly is.

Why do you think AmigaOne begins with the word Amiga ?

Is splitting hairs a hobby of yours ?

Quote:
Not sure how you confuse "Amiga" and "Amigaone" ??

I am not sure how you can miss the obvious connection !

A clue, the first 5 letters sort of give it away.

As for the legal #### I do not give a damn about it.

I think that without trolling, Amigascene wouldn't be the same. I am sure that without the competition between AmigaOS4, MorphOS and AROS. There wouldn't be so many active developers and users.

Anyway. I feel that I stated my view on this video from Hyperion. I don't really feel that Hyperion should decide whats AmigaOS or not. Some of these sides needs to stand up without provocating each sides.

I mean look at this from Wikipedia about AmigaOS:

I wonder, what makes AROS or MorphOS less AmigaOS than AmigaOS 3.9 and AmigaOS 4? I keep telling myself all sides, either blue, red or black is all Amiga. But then Hyperion makes this video without mentioning the whole picture.

I've been Amiga user since 1988 and I feel like I am ignored since I am using MorphOS instead of AmigaOS 4? Yes I want an AmigaOS 4 machine too. But it doesn't mean that I agree with Hyperion ignoring the Amigascene which have given them the chance to actually deliver a great product.

@AmiDelf2

Please stop this sobbering.. This was just a video showing the progress of AMIGAOS!!!!
Not the history of Amiga.. Like wikipedia does.. Why is that so hard to understand?

If MorphOS team did a CVS history video would you complain it didn't mention the birth
and history of AmigaOS4?? Of course not, that would be silly! Wouldn't it?

Why do these complaints and trollings ALMOST always happens when something is
released or announced for AmigaOS4.x? While it does happen in MorphOS theads as well
I have noticed it does so far far less.

Just my guess, but it seems there are more os4 users here then MorphOS. I think the os4 users just ignore the mos threads, just wish the mos users would return the favor.

And there certainly was no need to state it again.

Reality check. We MAKE AmigaOS. That's three words you should read again. We. Make. AmigaOS. Of course we decide what is it or not. FYI, AmigaOS != AROS != MorphOS. Just because they have some common API's doesn't mean anything. AmigaOS is AmigaOS 1.0 to (currently) AmigaOS 4.1. I'm sorry to break the news to you, but AROS isn't AmigaOS. MorphOS isn't either. Tough luck.

Quote:

Stand up for what? To prove that they are AmigaOS? Well they aren't. Get over it.

Quote:

Because the picture is rubbish? AROS and MorphOS are separate developments, they clone the API but they are not AmigaOS, no matter how hard you try.

Quote:
But then Hyperion makes this video without mentioning the whole picture.

Well, as I already pointed out.. damn, why do I have to repeat that? Go up and read what I wrote earlier, I think I have written it in plain English so you should be able to follow it. See, I didn't even mention software MILESTONES like DOpus or Superbase or Wordworth, nor did I mention anything like "Windows 95" released (I mentioned VGA because it shows how advanced Amigas were at that time).

When will you get it into your skull that this is not about MorphOS, or AROS, or about bloody anything but AMIGAOS, like in, AMIGAOS... Get that? AmigaOS? No clones, no "scene", nothing. Just, like, AMIGAOS.

Quote:
But it doesn't mean that I agree with Hyperion ignoring the Amigascene which have given them the chance to actually deliver a great product.

I'll tell you some news. They actually didn't give us the chance. They had nothing to do with it. If at all, the contrary is the case.

Oh, and I think Orange is a nice color. I heard some people disagree. But hey, luckily, that is about as relevant as you agreeing with me (because I made the video) about "ignoring the Amigascene" when the video was, like, about AMIGAOS.

Geez.

I agree. This would be a much more pleasant place if every time someone announced something positive or entertaining, someone else didn't feel the need to spew all over it.

Trolling is not competition. Look at how many people there were on the scene around 2000 before the Red vs Blue nonsense started and how many there are now. How much has that "competition" helped the platform?

Yeah, it would be bigger, nicer, and less filled with raving lunatics that are constantly pushing their agenda.

It would be a scene that would be productive and people like you would have no place in it.

I wonder how many people actually left the Amiga Scene because of the constant trolling. As one of the typical victims, I can tell you that if I wouldn't believe in AmigaOS 4, I would have left this troll-enriched Amiga Scene years ago. Then you could pat yourself on the shoulder and say "Well done, Amidelf, you scared off another Amiga user and developer. I love this troll infested scene".

Sorry, report me if you want to, but this got to be the dumbest thing ever posted on any forum.

Amidelf, get over yourself.

See, that is exactly what *I* don't do. I never read any news item that is related to a product I am not interested in. I don't try to sour up everything positive just for the sake of it.

I surely wish the others wouldn't do it either. But you heard the man, trolling is part of it and the Amiga scene wouldn't be the same anymore without.

This is a message to everyone:

There are more baiters then trolls here. If ppl would only learn not to respond to a troll or any post that upsets you, these threads would be fun again. Quit blaming others for the mess on AW because we're all to blame. No moderation will ever fix the problem, it's up to us to grow up & be civil to each other & ignore the trolls.

Just to be clear, a baiter is anyone who responds to a troll.

This forum is what we ALL make it into & we're ALL doing a crappy job...

Exactly. Which was my point. Amiga != Amigaos

And there is no thing such as Amigaos 1.0 as falsely posted in the news item.

Neither you nor A-Eon or Eyetech have the right to use the name Amiga. Please stop spreading miss information with your trying to make Amiga Workbench 1.0 look like it is Amigaos 1.0.
