Welcome Ben Yoris

I believe your past opinions stated at this public forum carried far more weight, with you being an (ex-)Hyperion employee. Thus I believe your opinions were excellent food for trolls and was being used by competitors to suit their agendas.

Of course the opinions of the actual Hyperion developers or managers are far more important as they are the ones who actually have to complete the project, but not everyone knows the corporate structure of Hyperion...

Personally I do believe we will see AmigaOS4 both for the Cyberstorm PPC and AmigaOne this year.

Let me make something very clear :

I was never an Hyperion employee. I never received money from them, apart from refundings when necessary, and I'm happy with everything that happened between Hyperion and me.

Concerning my "work" for them : it was only help, I coded nothing, produced nothing, I just gave a hand here and there, that's all.

Bye,
Ben

There is no insider info needed. OS4 cyberstorm end of summer (september), AOne at end of year at best.

But, as always, time will tell...

This looks like a kindergarden to me. Hyperion keeps fighting battles in the forums, and all I'm thinking is....are they total unprofessionals, or just regular street fighters.

Why the hell does official OS4 developers spend so much time typing away, instead of getting the job done????

It looks very stupid if you ask me. They should not be in these forums, arguing away about all kinds of ####. Instead they should focus on their task before them, and only show themselves whenever something very important happens.

I'n my oppinion...it's unprofessional to get involved in overly emotional discussions on a daily basis.

Makes them look like they've got nothing else to do, while the whole community suffers waiting for the next step in amigas history.

A lot of people even bought A1's, and now they can look forward to play with linux for a loooong time. Well that's not the reason they bought earlybird systems now is it.?

Well...whatever happens, I just hope that it'll happen soon. I can't blame the last 9 years on hyperion, i know. They are probably doing whatever is human possible, but that still don't remove the past 7-8 years of amiga disaster.

It's not hurting anymore, but the scars are there for good. No wonder people wants OS4 soon.

I'm sorry if hyperion feel attacked for the last 9-10 miserable years, but that's what happens when you're in buisness with the amiga. People suddenly remembers all the painful years of broken promises, and dreadful waiting.

We know (in our brain) that Hyperion can't be blamed, but maybe we all forget that, because of this sudden change in the amigas direction.

Remember that hyperion....we love what you guys are doing for our beloved amiga, and maybe that's why we are picking a little hard on you.

You know the old saying....The one you love...is the one you.......damn don't know how to say it in english, but i'm sure you get the meaning of it

I believe most people did not know this and did associate you with the company. For example I did not know this, not even after we were introduced to eachother at a past Amiga fair.

@ Hondo_DK

Personally I value the input of the Frieden brothers and Ben Hermans alot here @ AmigaWorld. They squash alot of (often intentionally spread) false rumours and hand out tons of useful information.

I do believe some forums are beyond much hope for them and engaging the vocal minority of trolls there will not gain anyone anything.

Regarding to the currently anticipated release shedule, my money would be on Hyperion, but of course only time will tell.

You know what i find really funny. The fact that this has degenerated into this and all it started with was a post about a review of the OS4 tour.

Now we have people acussing one person or another of spreading fud, rumours etc. Instead of talking about what the thread is actually about.

Still this is the Amiga "Community" anything can (and does) happen.

In a vain attempt to get this back on topic:

MikeB did you try out IBrowse? Was it running under JIT?

@Hyperion lads

Will we be seeing Warp NOVA in OS4.0 ?

@ Bodie

IBrowse 2.3 was demonstrated, but none of the systems were connected to the internet for the demonstration. IBrowse looked pretty good while using AmigaOS4's new interface and font anti-aliasing!

@Rogue

'- He said "not this year", not "at the end of this year"'

Seems I remember the quote the wrong way then. But as always, we're not there yet.

' - He broke an NDA.'

Irrelevant.

But anyway, thanks for the comforting words ;)

I respect the work Hyperion is doing on 4.0 so I don't see a need for you guys to be so defensive to what I said.

/Björn, still depressed.
- About the delays that has to be there and can't be helped.
- About the hurt to the triarchy that is made by those delays and the competition resulting from it.
- About having to shell out more now for a useless linux box that will be cheaper when 4.0 is ready.

@MikeB

Yeah, that is my estimation about 4.0 as well. I have no doubt about its quality and that it's worth the wait.

I will buy it when it's out

Seems most people missed the point of what I said and now there's something that looks like a flame war in here. Someone shoot me now.

@Orgin:

Yep, I'm also a bit depressed by the situation. I can respect Hyperion's wishes to "do it properly" (I would probably do the same in their shoes), but I'm seeing Bill Buck taking a page out of Microsoft's marketing manual and releasing MorphOs when it's "good enough", just to get market presence. Meanwhile, while their team is getting it to a decent state, slag off the opposition saying how theirs is on the market first, and how the opposition is never going to finish theirs - this gets people to buy the half-finished OS, with the promise of how much better it's going to be (once person X buys an OS, they are unlikely to buy the other one). I hear MOS users saying "sure it's a bit weak now, but wait until 1.4, *then* it's going to rock", and it sounds eerily similar to what Windows users say. We don't need a micro-microsoft in the amiga scene, but (unless the Triarchy pulls something really stunning) I think that's what we'll end up with, and THAT is depressing

@ Ben Yoris:
Thanks for clarifying that you didn't get fired by Hyperion - with all the flak flying towards Amiga, we don't need groundless rumours about how the bread was taken from your mouth by those ruthless Belgian ####s

At what point does a heated exchange become a flame war do you reckon?

Ben Yoris did a valuable job for us and as many in the community he did so free of charge, out of enthusiasm for the Amiga.

He was not "fired" or "kicked out" and I still consider him to be a friend.

He wanted to leave himself because he had other things to take care of in his life.

It is amazing the lengths some people will go to to stirr up problems.

Well... the way i see it, Hyperion are in a no-win situation with the public forums.

If they don't try and defend themselves against rumours then people say "the rumours must be true, Hyperion aren't saying anything" (a la recent Amiga Inc rumours).

If Hyperion do defend themselves then people say "Why aren't you working on OS4 - posting 3 posts takes up 20 valuable seconds"!

Personally, I appreciate it when OS4 developers visit the forums (gives more of an insight into its progress), so lets all try and take a step back and not get so heated!

Ian
