Hmm, wonder if OS4.1 is included in that price?

Tempting...

@marko

yes, the OS in included in the price. but you'll want to add a PCIe graphics card, though. otherwise you're stuck with the onboard video -- and it's not exactly speedy.

glad to see amigaOS hardware united under one brand: amigaOne. with what billy, bazza, and icontain are doing to the amiga brand, it's nice to have something that stands for something more than rebadged chinese OEM goods.

thank you acube and hyperion!

Wow... it's been a while since something new has come out. Still, a complete package is a good start for the newbe/entry level. Unfortunately, the price is still a little too high for this group. But, I guess you have to start somewhere. I hope the higher end units come out soon...

I had my fingers cross in favor of an Amiga laptop, but this is good too.

I mean, like how long have we waited for an Amiga laptop anyway? A few more years aren't going to make a difference now, will they?

At least everything is included here except for a keyboard and we all have an extra keyboard lying around somewhere. It's probably right over there along with your extra monitors.

I'd go for the graphic card straight away.

Do you realize how much development time and money is needed for a project like that? In this market pretty much not going to happen.

The Amiga one 500 is really really cool though. A lot of us suspected this was the case. Cant wait to see a pic of it!

Nice

I forgot, do you have the Sam440 or the Sam460?

Great work Acube!

But it is not realy true that you get a "out of the box " experience when there is no AmigaOne keyboard included.

Personally, I use a Swedish keyboard anyway, I don't use any UK/US etc. keyboard...

What's so special about this? - they just assembled a system like any other amigan does with their mb's. And then they call it AmigaOne and BANG suddenly the forums goes crazy because of a new machine, which really ain't new at all.

I also really think this is a truely ugly cabinet. It looks like an old suitcase....dohh

Sorry to pee on your parade but this is simply not good enough to continue the A500 legacy

Sounds like a decent enough box, and the price is not too bad for amiga hardware. A few questions:

1. Who's the US distributor?
2. Does the current version of OS4 support all the onboard hardware? (last I heard, drivers for some SAM460 features were still under development). if not, what's missing and when is it expected to be usable by non beta testers?
3. Getting a PCIe graphics card is recommended, is there a list of supported ones? I already got burned once with a gfx card I bought for my AmigaOne XE, which had a chipset variant that was unsupported by OS4 (the name on the box was the same as a supported one, but the PCI ID was different) The distributor selling known compatible cards would work too.
4. What's the difference between this and a "normal" SAM460 from eg last week?

[EDIT] I see that ACube recommends a SSD. Does OS4 support the TRIM command, or would I have to periodically plug the drive into a Windows box to run a SSD garbage collection utility on it?

@Hondo

If by the A500 legacy you mean a computer that's cheaper than the nearest competitor and completely leaves it in the dust, then no. Nothing ACube (or anyone else in the Amiga market as it stands today) will ever do that. There's just not enough R&D.

It should be pointed out that although this is only roughly a third faster than an AmigaOne G4@800, the reality is that the memory bus on this beast will be a lot faster, and the PCI Express will give it a much faster graphics bus too.

In other words, on paper your A1 may be nearly as good, but in practice, it may yet be different!

Kudos to ACube on what looks pretty cool to me, and the price is not bad and certainly much much cheaper than the original A500 was when it came out.
There's a part of me that still wants one in a keyboard-style case like the original though... :)

Its just a prebuilt system with a 460 in it.

What a letdown. . . .
