It's a good system with reasonable specs, but it's still a SAM460, with all its advantage and disadvantages, including the price...

Well that was not very exciting sam460 in a pc box come on acube you can do better than that.

This what it should of been like to make people get excited.

No it's not, you need to:

plug your monitor, keyboard and mouse

Seriously. The A500 equivalent of today would still be a desktop computer with built in keyboard, but the floppy replaced with DVD/BD and HDMI as output instead of RGB/Composite and it would include WiFi. THEN it could be used "right out of the box".

@ CodeSmith

Modern SSD didn't need Trim, they have garbage collection in it already. Probably with Amiga drivers right now you don't use full sata2 speed so you will not notice any difference even with a old ssd without trim in OS.

@ nikosidis

You probably don't have a clue of how much money are needed to produce hardware and how little money you do in amiga land. Comments like yours are an insult to everyone have tried to keep alive amiga in the last decade.

@thread

Imho it is a great news, it seems ACube now can use AmigaOne trademark a make Amiga all in one system.

The price imho is fantastic for Amiga land andSam460ex is a great piece of hardware.

This.

Really, it's just a well-known hardware, relatively expensive (ok ok talk about low volume productions and so on... I do understand that, but i still see that as an unnecessary high entry barrier) and with a frankly ugly PC case.

No reason for me to be excited, unfortunately... I mean, if you really want to relive the 500 myth, at least put it in a custom made, attractive case. :-|

You shouldn't bew disappointed, really. This is in my opinion a milestone for Acube. Now the sam series are officially AmigaOne branded computers. As you have noticed, this is the file n. 1. I'ìm quite sure that acuibe is working on other really interessting projects.

This is cool. It would have been cooler with a new board rather than the 460, but again, the 460 is a nice board, and I assume the box is some kind of MiniITX box or something, not a boring full tower.

Btw. How wide is its memory bus? I know the 440 only has a 32-bit wide bus and though more than twice the speed of an A1 it still couldn't showel data much quicker since the A1 with G3/G4 has a 64-bit bus.

If the 460 has a 64-bit bus too, and DDR2, it would wipe the floor with an old A1.

I had my fingers cross in favor of an Amiga laptop, but this is good too.

I mean, like how long have we waited for an Amiga laptop anyway? A few more years aren't going to make a difference now, will they?

At least everything is included here except for a keyboard and we all have an extra keyboard lying around somewhere. It's probably right over there along with your extra monitors.

I'd go for the graphic card straight away.

While with AROS there are laptops supported today, you will see Powerbooks gettingsupported by MorphOS 3.0. The waiting will last only about three more months.

Would be nice if the parties involved (AEON, ACube...) went for REALLY unified branding. I mean, not just use the name "AmigaOne" but also settle on a unified visual representation of the name. If you take a look, AEON's AmigaOne X1000 and ACube's AmigaOne 500 use different font for the AmigaOne "logo". If they want to promote their computers as being part of one family, they should share the same visual identity.

@Trixie
Yeah but finished products aren't out yet, maybe Aeon will adopt "AmigaOne"as writtent on the 500 who knows (very close to the original Amiga logo).

@Thread
You should all understand that this change is quite a major one, it's basically the end of an era. Whether you like the 500 product or not, what should be noted is that from now on, there will be a lineup of Amiga-One custom computers coming out from Aeon and Acube, of which the 500 and X1000 are just the beginning.
Maybe the line up of fully boxed custom built machines of 2020 will be more of your likings but it has to (re)start somewhere. Actually they are putting more money on the table, than our small market and catastrofic economical situation would prompt.

So I invite everyone at least acknowledge this historical change, which make no mistake, is the start of something good.

Hmm, i think that desktop computers with built in keyboard are obsolete now and probably not cheaper to build, so i dont see problem there.

Anyway the Amiga 500 was entry model of Amiga computers, with reasonable price targeted for masses. AmigaOne500 is not.

Only positive info i see in there is the Amiga One name used by ACube, which can lead to unified branding of Amiga (PPC) compatible hardware in the future...

You must be mistaking the C=64 with A500 I'm afraid.

The first was targeted at the masses the A500 in 1987, for how cheaper than the A1000 it was, was nothing "the masses" could afford that easily, and while I got my Amiga in 1989, all my friends got a used one between 1992 and 1995 (all had a 64, yes even as late as 1995 for some).

agree; and I hope the standard AmigaOne keyboard will be included with the A1-500.

Great news!

It makes the 460ex that bit more consumer friendly now that it is available in an official package.

Those that feel ACube is 'miliking' the community - I don't agree. To develop the 440 and the 460 must have been major risks and investments for them - this just tidies things up from a packaging point of view and it is very welcome.

Yes - it would have been goodto have a more 'custom' case and utterly fantastic to get the 'Fantasy' case - but this is the quickest and most cost effective way of getting to a new official A500.

It would be good if Amiga was a proper company again - selling the hardware and software themselves like Apple do today and CBM did in the past. I suppose this role would fall to Hyperion but at the moment they appear to be purely a software company with ACube and A-Eon giving them their hardware.

This is all a sensible and cost effective way of building a base for OS4 however and as such I am pleased for ACube on what is a good idea and positive move. Now - let's get see some decent software to run on it...

We need a modern re-imagining of the 'Bat Pack'.

Although I'm a little disappointed, was hoping for something new, its still good news that Acube now have been given rights to the AmigaONE brand for the complete systems, I agree the Brand logo should be unified, same stly on everything its used, plus I cant help but feel it would been nice if we got a more customised tower/case hopefully TheDaddy can come up with A500 case to please some people and maybe later down the road the X1000 tower can be used for the Sam460 systems as well. Plus I think Relec cases are a little nicer. http://www.relec.ch/frch/

Good Idea. decent specs.
Horrible case though.
With "Amiga" branding one expects a nice "solid" case .
Come on Acube change the case quickly .
If I were to buy one it would only be for the price and I would change the case.

I'd not underextimate this little big step from ACube. This move reduces fragmentation of the Amiga world, finally using a clear, simple and understandable cross-companies brand. From now on, AmigaOne will be the 'de-facto' name for Amiga NG PPC computers, and this will benefit both ACube and A-Eon: next move should be a partnership for common distribution and support worldwide. And, notice, we are talking about COMPUTERS, not "platform" or "motherboards": again, we'll have common models that will be initally equal each others, but still keeping the far more advanced expandibility and freedom of choice that modern A1s and SAM provided to users. "It's a little step for a computer, but a giant leap for the AmigaOne platform".
