software OS4   software OS4 : Preliminary release of Hurrican
   posted by K-L on 17-Jun-2012 21:21:53 (2926 reads)
Once again, Hugues "HunoPPC" Nouvel brings us a new jewel to play with.

This time it's a kind of Turrican clone named Hurrican with very nice graphics, smooth animations (MiniGL required) and good sound effects.

The actual OS4 version is a preliminary release, hence there are some flaws such as possible crash when reaching the 1st boss and lack of optimizations regarding the code that need to be done.

What will be present in next release : in game music, support of joystick/joypad (thanks to LibHWJ) and fix some graphic glitches.

You can Download Hurrican 1.0.0.4 from OS4Depot

I've finished this game back in 2007. Though a nice addition, after 5 years, most probably, everyone that did bother, must have completed already.

Cool_Amiga : what about those not using PCs ?

So no, every one that did bother must not have completed it already.

And playing on real Amiga systems is a must.

@Cool_amigaN
I've never played Hurrican (despite Turrican being one of my all-time-favourite games), and (IIRC) hadn't even heard of it until recently, and so look forward to playing it. Why not try seeing the glass half-full?

@K-L
Please make sure to make another news item once the major bugs have been fixed, as I wouldn't want to miss that.

Coincidently it was only a few weeks ago that I played this on AROS.

I must admit I was pretty disappointed with it. Doesnt come close to the originals in terms of gameplay in my opinion, although is it super fast and slick (on AROS at least, I cant comment there on OS4). To me the game itself feels and plays more like Abuse, but with a couple of Turrican-isms and different graphics. Not a terrible game, but doesnt come close to Turrican 1/2/3 on either c64 or amiga.

Despite having said this though, a free mediocre game is better than paying for a mediocre game :)

a friend pm'd me on FB to tell me this was out on os4depot (in the upload queue), i rushed there and downloaded the 44! megs, installed it and started it..

first thing that hit me was.. blocky gfx, music felt generic and the controls was a bit "off".

i have heard so much good about this game in the past that i was like really hyped for it so the fall was pretty rough...

that said, its really smooth and its fast as F... and its a joy to play when you get into it properly.

thanks for the port, greatly appreciated!

Next things to come soon : in game music and joypad support. Then fixing all the little remaining graphic glitches.

On my AmigaOS4 system, it starts in 640x480 mode.

I think that on PC, it's more.

Is there a way to change this on AmigaOS4 ?

Hello

I just downloaded game. Icons looks beautiful. But clicking on it I got following message in Output window:

Initializing SDL.
SDL initialized.
Failed to 640x480x16 video mode: Failed to create MiniGL context
Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten !
Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten !

What now? I guess it needs MiniGL.

Then I go to OS4 depot and download MiniGL from there...

http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=driver/graphics/minigl.lha

Is it this archive?

When unpack - no installation utility!?

When I click on Autoinstall I got another window:

copystore: Unknown command

Too much hacking... :(

Any ideas what to do to start Hurrican?
