Software News   Software News : Plato's Cellar SD Closeout
   posted by DiscreetFX on 17-Sep-2012 14:24:39 (7904 reads)
As 2012 comes to a close DiscreetFX is transiting away from SD (Standard Definition) products and will be producing only HD products. Sadly the Amiga Video Toaster is only SD so we will be transitioning away from it. This means we have some great close out deals on Amiga Video Toaster hardware to clear out inventory.

Also to gauge the future interest of Aladdin 4D we have reduced the price of it to $19.96 ($99.96 value) for 72 hours. IF you can afford to buy your favorite movie on DVD you can now afford Aladdin 4D.

Read more...

This is a great sale and helps us gauge interest in future supported platforms for it. Aladdin 4D 6.0 will be available for OS X and iPad only. We are still evaluating what platforms will be supported in Aladdin 4D 7.0. Aladdin 4D 5.x for AmigaOS will no longer be available after October 5th, 2012. Please let us know what platform you would like to see Aladdin 4D 7.0 available for when you order. During the 72 hour closeout sale products have been very competitively priced to move limited inventory. First come first served.

We now use a 3rd party shipping company. All hardware products are professionally packaged and shipped in 24 hours or less.

Nice. I payed for Aladdin 4D about 4 years ago just to show my interest in an OS4 port. It is other story that I got nothing.

Experiences like this makes me very cautious for the future, and that is not a good thing for Amiga developments.

The conclusion is that the promises is mostly just makes illusion.

Hmm, DiscreetFX finally discredited themselves completely. Lets call it Aladdin 4D fiasco. I have no clue how many Amigans bought Aladdin 4D to support development of newer versions FOR AMIGA, but I presume for many of them it was only reason to spend their money on this old version...

No. Aladdin 4D is system friendly, so works on OS4 pretty good.

@Lazi @ExiE

We are still evaluating which platforms will be supported for Aladdin 4D 7.0.

And what are the criteria you use for your evaluation?

I'd donate money to such a cause, if that helps?

I would formulate it a little less sarcastic... It would be nice that you explain your criteria otherwise people could see it as a kind of promotion to make more sales (with creating hopes). And that left a lot of damage when done the last time

I express my interest towards 3D modelling apps.
Easy to use is the key (otherwise I might be on Blender already.

Buy old Alladdin4D, lets see...

@cgutjahr

The key line seems to be
Quote:
Aladdin 4D 5.x for AmigaOS will no longer be available after October 5th, 2012.

Since that's the only version that runs on AmigaOS, I don't expect there will be more to say after October 5.

I don't understand "evaluating" either, since until just recently the entire idea of an update was based on whether it would be continued by Deron, and that notion was dismissed, based on the forum thread of great length.

What would there be to evaluate after expressing the opinion that the project was a scam?

I would not bet that there will be any amiga-version in future. So you buy the old version, other hopes are not real.

@All

The programmer of Aladdin 4D has created multi platform professional software before so we believe it can be done by him. However, screen shots have been requested for the Amiga OS 4.x version may times. Until this is provided to us we can not in good faith promote the application for Amiga OS 4.x. Since the programmer has the skill set we are hoping this gets resolved for Aladdin 4D 7.0 or sooner.

last time you posted everywhere that you have been screwed by him, you even pmed proofs of that none has asked. and now you start over with it?
you are evaluating interest? yet again? i think you are doing it for few years already, what do you expect have changed dramatically?
and then you want to discontinue the 68k version? very well. you can bin it and sit on the lid, it only proves the attitude towards the community.

wouldn't it make sense to presume that the next releases will be based on sales for each platform?

Yes you can "presume" that and because of that I do not think that there will be "Amiga" versions. I think he should not make false hopes (again) and wait with any kind of announcement till he knows that there will be one (definitely).

@wawa

Tedd posted that not me. He is no longer part of DFX. I did not want Aladdin 4D put in the spotlight like that! Anyway drama over, development has continued since then.

I assume nothing has been stated, since there is certainly no sales actually for this product.

When it will be released, they will have to look at how many does it cost and where do they put the money in hope to generate profit for next releases.

Of course, this isn't covering the fact that this product has been vaporware for ages, and I completely understand one can take each anoucement as a bad joke.

Anyway, let them have their chance, we have waited for OS4 for so so long more time than the latest Amiga Inc team told us about (I remember a time when Amiga Inc talked about a "it's ready in two months", and some OS4 coders saying under the wood "no it is in 2 years"). Finnaly the OS4 product gone gold (sort of), just hope Alladin 4D will have the same path (and at that point, I would eventually buy a licence, just to thank for the work).

Let me get this straight: People who pre-ordered v6.0 on the promise it would run on their Amiga (with the ancient 68k v5.0 bundled so they had something to play with until then) are now being told they will never get what they pre-ordered?

Unless you are offering refunds to everyone who bought it on that promise (and going by previous comments I'm pretty sure you aren't), it seems extremely shady *at best*.

And now you are apparently pulling almost the same stunt again, by hinting that Aladdin 4D v7.0 *might* support AmigaOS4/MorphOS/etc if enough people buy Aladdin. I'm sorry, but you just lost all credibility with me.

For clarity, the Aladdin 4D page from last year said this:
Quote:
DiscreetFX is updating and releasing a new 6.0 version for Mac OS X, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS 2.5, AROS, Linux & Windows.

It nows says this:
Quote:
DiscreetFX is updating and releasing a new 6.0 version for Mac OS X & iPad.

Yes, Aladdin 4D 5.x will work on your SAM. The Amiga Video Toaster though requires an Amiga with a Video slot.
