Announcement   Announcement : New AmigaOne X1000 Batch & New RadeonHD Driver
posted by TrevorDick on 4-Apr-2013 1:43:08 (18218 reads)
Cardiff, 2nd April 2013

New batch of AmigaOne X1000 approved for production

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that, due to overwhelming customer demand, we have commissioned another manufacturing run of AmigaOne X1000 systems with our suppliers. We expect to receive new boards from Varisys within 8 to 10 weeks.

Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit, our official distributor commented, "On-going delivery of the AmigaOne X1000 to customers is progressing. We also have a large backlog of customers who have already registered their interest and they will be serviced first from the new manufacturing batch." If you have already registered your interest you need take no further action as you are already in the order queue and will be contacted by AmigaKit to confirm your system specifications as they work through the backorder list. If you no longer wish to reserve your place please contact AmigaKit to remove yourself from the list. If you still wish to register your interest and have not yet done so, please visit the following web link: www.amigakit.com/x1000

Radeon HD version 1.0 RC1 available for download

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that the first Release Candidate of the RadeonHD driver (Version 1.0 RC1 (0.55) is now available for download by registered AmigaONE X1000 owners from the A-EON Technology website.

Registered customers: www.a-eon.com/?page=download&os=amigaos
New customers: www.a-eon.com/radeonhd

The new version fixes a number of minor issues and bugs including:

* Fixed a bug that could cause minor graphics corruption that occurred on a few graphics cards when switching between GPU and CPU based rendering (e.g., the arrow buttons in Directory Opus 4).

* Forces the OS to wait for the GPU to be idle before a soft reboot so that some Radeon HD 5xxx cards don't lock up if the soft-reboot occurs while they're still busy (requiring a hard reset).

* Re-enabled using timer device for longish delays when switching Screenmodes (no busy waiting means more CPU time for other tasks). Added a workaround so that this doesn't prevent soft reboots

* In addition, there have also been minor miscellaneous fixes.

Registered owners of new AmigaOne 500 and selected Sam460 systems purchased directly from ACube can also download the driver. If you own multiple AmigaOS systems you can also purchase additional licences through the same website.

About the Radeon HD driver: The driver supports 2D and Compositing under AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 with a wide range of Radeon HD PCI graphics cards including: the X1300-X1950 series, HD4000 series, "Evergreen" HD5000 series, "Northern Islands" HD6000 series and now the "Southern Island" HD7000 series. Version 0.54 is fully ready for 3D support to be added by Hyperion Entertainment. Please visit AmigaKit's website to obtain compatible graphics cards.

Link: www.amigakit.com

About the developer: Hans de Ruiter is an electrical & electronic engineer and leading AmigaOS developer and Amiga enthusiast. His website - HDRLab - details various projects, many of which are AmigaOS related. The biggest of these is the RadeonHD driver for AmigaOS, an ambitious project that aims to deliver modern graphics capabilities for the AmigaOS platform.

I think it is toooo much (even for me that earn a lot for current conditions in current country)... I think the price of 550- 860 € would be acceptable. Why not search for devs in China?

So whole machine would be 1400€ (of calculate a 24" monitor, 2tb hd, good keyboard & mouse... This is a killer machine for my video production... Now imagine what we can get for 2500€!!!

Checking options from that given link to Amikit about X1000, what is the use of that "Serial Debug Port"?

Is it any use for a normal use, or is it useful just for developers of X1000 who can use it for debugging X1000?

@Eder

I was planning to donate to DJ Nick on that Sam, but when i was about to do so, the money had been gathered already, so I didnt.

But my plan for donation was based upon him having proven track record of doing things, therefore that comment of his woudnt really had affected anything on my side.

But I do see your point. But maybe hes life situation have changed dramatically since then.

@netrot

I'm sure people that don't earn that much have donated some money to djnick. And I'm sure they still expect some cool AmigaOS theme and not some bashing about Amiga hardware/user or companies that enables Amigans to enjoy their hobby.

X1000 cpu is quite rare, I belive that ther is no other computer that uses it.

China should be option, manufacturing some 10000 devices with low level spec shouldn't cost more than 50€ per device.

Though need to admit that aeon and acube devices are high quality products

There are some server and military applications, but I don´t know any other desktop computer that uses PA6T.

It is a standard serial port. It is usable via AmigaOS (was it serial.device or X1000serial.device cannot remember right now?) and Linux.
I actually used it on Linux and AmigaOS for connecting my old Garmin GPS. Worked like a charm (e.g. on Linux via GPSBabel). So I guess, you could use it with everything a serial port is normaly used with. As it is just a couple of Euros more, I would suggest to take it!

regards

It's a serial port, so you can do 'serial port things' with it (connect to dialup modem, run dnet etx etc) but in these moderns times it most useful for debugging stuff with.

So, let me get this straight.

You recently spent 850 EUR on an upgrade to a system, but were happy to accept a Sam paid for by members of the community on the understanding that you'd produce some original themes and artwork in return.

A system that you subsequently complained about at length and bemoaned the purchase of a graphics card for out of your own pocket.

A system that you've yet to meet your end of the bargain for obtaining.

A system that you've complained about the horrendous complexity of skinning, when another user has created about 20 themes without any similar histrionics. A user that produced work you claimed wasn't professional, when I might add, all I've seen you do so far is copy other people's artwork?

After all of this, you just drop in an off the cuff remark about how much you spent upgrading your PC for video work.

Congratulations. You must win troll of the year! I'm glad I wasn't one of the contributors to your freebie.

Now, if you have any integrity, you'll donate that system to someone that can actually produce something worth having with it. And by something, I mean software. Not some basic UI themes which while nice to have, aren't exactly first on any sensible priority list.

And as this post will probably be moderated, I might as well say it. How hard is it to put a colour coordinated wallpaper and window border/widget bitmap set together? I seem to recall having no difficulties re-skinning the default 4.1 theme to my own tastes, despite being chronically colourblind and having virtually no artistic talent at all. And that default 4.1 theme was rather better than the horrendous early OSX horizontal pinstripe clone of yours I saw posted around here not long ago.

Just saying.

Amazing and to think I used to get the baws chewed off me from certain members and moderators round here for saying things that weren't even half as bad (or whatever the appropriate word may be) as that but just as truthful...

Strange place this internet thingy, if you're not one of the boys" and your face doesn't fit they hang you for saying the exact same things... but if you are they "+1" you and clap like sea lions... fecked up or what...

On X1000 price: sadly it is what is, more then before, and it seems it will be last of it.
Hope next one will be cheaper, since its not even less likely I will be able to afford it when adding OS4, import taxes, P&P etc. Anyone needs a kidney?

And no, you cant really buy 12 PCs for price of X1000. But you can buy an high end Mac and high end PC, at least here. Maybe some more within EU or US.

X1000 Options are more RAM, more HDD, better gFX and yes serial debug cable that has practical use just for beta testers and if it won`t boot as well as printed manual. But it all adds even more to the price.

On DJ Nicks new PC: He did spent his own money (in my own eyes, that is an overkill spending on PC - speed up compared to how much it will be worth in lets say a year) to buy productivity PC he needs. Not a bounty money in any way. And it might even help fulfilling the audio/gfx goals for AmigaOS, since they will all be done on PC - and tested on AmigaOS machine. Again bounty was plain board with OS 4.1, so man already invested in building the system around it and did not upgrade PC in couple of years (for PCs thats ... quite long).

Currently SAM 460 with 2D RadeonHD drivers can`t do much. And since he has 4000 series card, waiting for 3D will be longer - until OS 4.2 as well all know 3D drivers are not yet planned for these. Then hope some presentational and inspirational works, as well as end of his bounty goals, and even more coming. But I will let him speak, that is just my guess based on situation.

On Serbias situation: 1st january 2014 will bring down all trade barriers with EU, eliminating import taxes that add more to cost then to people buying Acube and A-Eon products in EU. That is what I am waiting for, as well as PayPal should be finally introduced.

Hope personally with those two combined, will be able to aid bounties, buy more software and finally newer AmigaNG system - I can only envy DJ Nick SAM 460 now.
