Announcement   Announcement : New AmigaOne X1000 Batch & New RadeonHD Driver
posted by TrevorDick on 4-Apr-2013 1:43:08 (18236 reads)
Cardiff, 2nd April 2013

New batch of AmigaOne X1000 approved for production

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that, due to overwhelming customer demand, we have commissioned another manufacturing run of AmigaOne X1000 systems with our suppliers. We expect to receive new boards from Varisys within 8 to 10 weeks.

Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit, our official distributor commented, "On-going delivery of the AmigaOne X1000 to customers is progressing. We also have a large backlog of customers who have already registered their interest and they will be serviced first from the new manufacturing batch." If you have already registered your interest you need take no further action as you are already in the order queue and will be contacted by AmigaKit to confirm your system specifications as they work through the backorder list. If you no longer wish to reserve your place please contact AmigaKit to remove yourself from the list. If you still wish to register your interest and have not yet done so, please visit the following web link: www.amigakit.com/x1000

Radeon HD version 1.0 RC1 available for download

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that the first Release Candidate of the RadeonHD driver (Version 1.0 RC1 (0.55) is now available for download by registered AmigaONE X1000 owners from the A-EON Technology website.

Registered customers: www.a-eon.com/?page=download&os=amigaos
New customers: www.a-eon.com/radeonhd

The new version fixes a number of minor issues and bugs including:

* Fixed a bug that could cause minor graphics corruption that occurred on a few graphics cards when switching between GPU and CPU based rendering (e.g., the arrow buttons in Directory Opus 4).

* Forces the OS to wait for the GPU to be idle before a soft reboot so that some Radeon HD 5xxx cards don't lock up if the soft-reboot occurs while they're still busy (requiring a hard reset).

* Re-enabled using timer device for longish delays when switching Screenmodes (no busy waiting means more CPU time for other tasks). Added a workaround so that this doesn't prevent soft reboots

* In addition, there have also been minor miscellaneous fixes.

Registered owners of new AmigaOne 500 and selected Sam460 systems purchased directly from ACube can also download the driver. If you own multiple AmigaOS systems you can also purchase additional licences through the same website.

About the Radeon HD driver: The driver supports 2D and Compositing under AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 with a wide range of Radeon HD PCI graphics cards including: the X1300-X1950 series, HD4000 series, "Evergreen" HD5000 series, "Northern Islands" HD6000 series and now the "Southern Island" HD7000 series. Version 0.54 is fully ready for 3D support to be added by Hyperion Entertainment. Please visit AmigaKit's website to obtain compatible graphics cards.

Link: www.amigakit.com

About the developer: Hans de Ruiter is an electrical & electronic engineer and leading AmigaOS developer and Amiga enthusiast. His website - HDRLab - details various projects, many of which are AmigaOS related. The biggest of these is the RadeonHD driver for AmigaOS, an ambitious project that aims to deliver modern graphics capabilities for the AmigaOS platform.

all the xxxxing annoying "hens" in here should just STOP for a minute and think about what is wrong with the Amiga community!, yes its these kind of threads that chase away people!.

We donated money / funded a machine for them to use for developing stuff for US and it was never about if they could pay the system(s) themselves and it never is!.

i am really shocked to see what is going on in this thread and i guess if this is how everyone thinks then the Amiga community has stooped to a even lower level.

EDIT:
I feel your pain, but was forced to edit that little 4-letter word. --- Moxee

@ Toaks

Amazing... people expressing their true and honest opinions and feelings on a subject is somehow chasing people away...

Honestly if that is the case then the Amiga community is far better of without people whom have no time for others opinions or views and only want to read what fits in with their point of view and whine and storm off in a huff when someone says something that doesn't fit in with their absurd rose tinted view of the world...

Good riddance to them if that is genuinely the case and true. I'd rather listen to peoples real honest viewpoints than that of blinkered and ignorant lunatics whom claim that somehow the Amiga community has "stooped to an even lower level" by people telling the truth...

Some folk in this "Community" really need to wake up and smell the coffee for once and pull their heads out of their anuses and realise that not everyone is a "yes man" or lives in cloud cuckoo land like them...

Diversity and opinions are nice.

Often the tone of posts are what makes or breaks a thread/forum mood.

At the risk of being the bad guy, nothing DjNick has listed so far - aside from having other time responsibilities (we all do) - really changes the crux of my argument.

He's a graphics designer and does all of his professional work on a PC. There's nothing wrong with that, it's all about the right tool for the job.

What I don't get is why the shortcomings of the Sam and the OS, the lack of 3D drivers, youtube and so on, makes the machine "unusable" for that purpose. None of these things, not a single one, not even the preferences system, as antiquated as it is, has any impact whatsoever on one's ability to create artwork on a *different system*

Surely I can't be the only person that can see a far more productive approach would have been to pair up with someone else that can handle the implementation details (ie, slicing up images into bitmaps for the theme and editing the text file that goes with it and perhaps even creating the installer) and between them, knock out a polished end result without all the frustration he's had.

But hey, I didn't contribute towards it and if those that did are happy that their money has been spent on a system that clearly isn't any use to the guy, then I guess I have no room to complain.

I give a +1 to Karlos, but Toaks gets a mention for good effort

@Karlos

If he is not using the system then maybe he can donate
it to another developer?

Ok guys, lets stop talking more than what is needed to hear.

I am and was always for action! So here is my straight question:

- WHO will want to HELP ME and create me a ******* script to install and remove / revert back skinned file[s]? It would mean - give me e-mail, I am sending you what I;'ve done. Then you look at scripts, do changes and revert back so my theme is called - Nick's First Theme-like name. And if it works - I will happily export the rest of the themes I've created.

When I do design, I don't do code. I am NOT interested in code. To me it is waste of [my] time. So lets focus on HELPING ME with code. Skinning is easiest part [to me]. Implementing skin to "work" [as any other skins] needs hard coding. It is not easy to me and I really don`t have that time to keep investigating what to change, where and forced to use CED that I really don`t like... where you are forced to MARK a word - click CTRL+B to start marking and CTRL+something to END marking. Then CTRL+C does not work so I have to find Right Amiga Key on multimedia keyboard on Amiga [!?] and then pray if selected word will be copied to buffer. And then pray when hit [after I find] RightAmiga key + V to Paste word... It is just more than annoying.

To make bottom word:

- When I design skin - I never code. Remember that. I send sliced files to "programmer" and he implements that in: application, web site, program... what ever.

If system is more friendly, I will do it 12 months ago.

Ha ha! They should rename this thread, "The OS4 way - How gain Developers and bring in Triple A level software titles!"

for *installing* the theme you don't need any script.
your complete theme has to be placed in one theme drawer. this drawer then is copied to sys:prefs/presets/. just like any other theme available in os4depot - for example this one:
silver blue

for activating the theme (not permanent - just in memory) of course a little script is needed. but this only copies the .prefs files to env:sys/... see archive above - "use theme" script.
for making it permanent the "save theme" script is used then.
trying to write a (complex) installer/uninstaller is not what i'd want for the themes.
most important is the "use theme" functionality. this can be use to test the theme without changing *anything* on disk. especially without any installation.

regards...
michael

Then perhaps this is not what its about! Did you even bother reading the bounty description or are you too busy with your own dead machine (doesn't Hyperion give you tools for working?) to bother.

DJ nicks exp. with difficulties getting BACK into the Amiga scene with new HW is in no way unique. It should be a major concern for Hyperion.

Thank you Michael. I will try this theme later tonight. I hope I will succeed.

For example, I edited install script with PC's WordPad - it ruins Amiga text file and adds some "invisible" signs over all script. Then when I open installation script with NotePad - I think it does the job.

you shouldnt edit ANY amiga scripts with a pc editor, if you want edit amiga textfiles on pc use amiga under emulation. most convinient winuae+aros68k, the aros editor is intuitive, easy to use and most dependable.

please use this thread for feedback on your skins:

and leave this thread for the original subject.

That's altogether wrong - you need Microsoft Word 2003 to edit Amiga scripts. Also remember to make the font 48pt and put in some happy dancing baby clipart for good measure.

Edit by mod: Be kind. I've seen all sorts of people screw up trying to use Wordpad a text editor.

Back to price

Quote:
Q: What price will the AmigaOne X1000 be? A: Price is dependent on the configuration you choose, however base price starts from around GBP £1800 plus VAT and delivery. VAT is only chargeable to customers in the UK and EU. Prices subject to change due to the volatility in component prices.

Now is 2200 with VAT. If VAT is 20% (is it, UK friends) for base system,
price has not much changed, even PA Semi CPU price went higher according to Trevor.

That price even does not include AmigaOS 4.1/4.2 which means that base system is at least 2 300 GBP ...

Off course, those who can afford it are tempted to expand it beyond, and add even more to it.

Good side is that even by plain specs it look way more modern then any other past PPC board,
and it will be a great joy when AmigaOS will fully utilize it, like Linux can now.

Will see how much new board features will make AmigaOS go forward

@Troels

As I said, I didn't contribute. If you did and are happy with how your money was spent, then I guess that's fine.

As for my "dead machine", Hyperion (and others besides) have actually chased me about providing a replacement a number of times. So far I've declined. The main reasons are that I wanted to be sure my kit was dead before making room for yet another system. Secondly, the testing I do locally involves a lot of hardware reconfiguration (constantly swapping graphics cards and such) and I am cautious about taking other people's hardware I might break.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, like DjNick, I have limited time to work on OS4 stuff and a perfectly good linux box on which to run the cross compiler SDK. So, rather than sit on my thumb, I've teamed up with a few of beta testers directly and between them, they do a lot of the work I was doing when I had a working system*, only without having to constantly change their hardware.

So far it's working out OK. If I really need a replacement system, I can get it, but perhaps there are other people that don't have the options I have available and might benefit from that hardware more than me.

*I still do, but it's a Permedia2 based classic.

I don't know if this has been discussed in the thread but isn't there going to be a new RadeonHD-driver for SAM 460 too? How come the driver only works on AmigaOne X1000, as stated in the news text? Isn't it written for the OS or is it written specifically for one type of motherboard?

edit: Ignore my question. I just found out that A-Eon also have released a version of the driver for SAM 460 (or AmigaOne X500 as they prefer to call it). Maybe something to add to the news text?

@Niolator

The same driver works on any NG Amiga that you can get a Radeon HD card to work with.
I am typing this on a Sam440ep-Flex with the latest driver ,version 0.55 and a Radeon HD5670 card.
