Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : Enhancer Software v1.1 Released
   posted by amigakit on 31-Aug-2016 0:28:31 (12342 reads)
Enhancer Software Pack - Version 1.1 Update
Major upgrade with new content & free for registered users

Cardiff August 31st, 2016

A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce a major update to the Enhancer Software for AmigaOS 4.1 systems. The Enhancer Software version 1.1 upgrade demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the AmigaOS platform and is available as a free download from AMIStore for existing registered users. New customers can either purchase a digital download from AMIStore or a buy a boxed CD from selected Amiga dealers.

The original Enhancer Software package was met with positive acclaim when it was released earlier this year. The v1.1 update is the culmination of four months hard work by the dedicated AmigaDeveloper.com team who have added a whole host of new function-ality and features.

Applications & utilities
Apart from significant updates to key software utilities such as MultiViewer v2.6, MultiEdit v1.3, AmiPDF v1.34, X-Dock v0.35 and TuneNet v2.4 there are new additions such as the ‘themeable’ Clock utility (v53.7) with a wide selection of ‘skins’ included.

RadeonHD driver update
The RadeonHD driver has once again been updated. The new versions, v2.18 (Plus Edition) and v1.17 (Standard Edition), includes several maintenance updates and increased compatibility for additional graphics card firmware support.

Warp3D Nova, the Shader based 3D graphics system, has been significantly updated and v1.29 now supports MipMapping, Stencil buffering and many other new functions. It is complemented by the much awaited premiere of the OpenGL ES 2.0 library on AmigaOS.

New datatypes & features
The new Sound Datatype, which includes MOD, MPEGA and WAV, is a significant improvement over earlier versions. It now supports multi channel 16-bit/32-bit/64-bit (floating point) streaming with internal support for up to 19 named channels. Apart from adding full MultiViewer support, we have been working closely with third party application developers to ensure that the new datatypes deliver the added functionality they require for their own software titles. The Ringhio Notifications server has been under continuous development since the last Enhancer Software release. The latest version (53.60) adds the possibility of a ‘Progress Bar’ support inside the notification “bubble” pop-up.

Future proofing
With one eye to the future, the building blocks of applications, ReAction compatible gadgets and classes have been extended and many of the main programs have been converted to use the new gadgets. The new Clock app is based on the new flexible and powerful clock.gadget

Credits
The Enhancer Software package would not have been possible without the excellent work and contribution of AmigaDeveloper.com team. A-EON Technology would like to sincerely thank the growing team of developers, beta testers and translators for their invaluable work over the last few months. It is very encouraging that so many Amigans are willing to give their time to help contribute to a major AmigaOS project in 2016.

@amigakit
It's an improvement but not quite fixed. Creating a datatype object and playing it once works but playing it a second time with the same object doesn't play the sound but sends the termination signal for 8SVX sounds. Playing some WAV sounds with the Enhancer WAV DT doesn't play the sound or send the termination signal. With the OS4 sound datatype, once you've created a datatype object with NewDTObject() you can play it multiple times with DoDTMethodA() or IDoMethodA() and dispose of the sound object when the program closes.

I'm replying to your email with more explanation and some attached files for testing.

@broadblues Quote:
Earlier you were advocated the power of screen switching....

And what has that got to do with the non-obvious need to change to an entirely different program (OS Prefs utility) to set-up a program to start on it's own public screen?

Your suggested procedure is interesting, but neither an improvement, nor IMHO "correct". (The "Insert open screen" function is a hack to force programs which don't support public screens onto a public screen.)

Quote:
You would only need a custom setup if you want the them to be as much like workbench s possible but without compositing, in which you can save a custom set of prefs, but then that is avery custom setup.

IMHO it should NOT be a "very custom setup", but a simple option. Compositing is 99% useless except on the Workbench screen (IMHO of course), but uses large amounts of video memory.

And what about iconified programs can you switch between them? see what I mean?

Well, the whole point of iconified programs is that they are "not in your way but still available if necessary", so the slight extra hassle of going to Workbench & pressing LAmiga-B to see the iconified icons (or optionally going to Tools menu in some cases), seems quite reasonable to me.

Quote:
I don't like using screens instead of windows, and some programs can't be be used in a separate screen, imagine using TuneNet in a separate screen, it's a waste of both space and time.

I'm not sure I see your point? I run TuneNet (and other small utilities) on my Workbench, without any problems. (But my Workbench is not cluttered with major programs that take-up the whole screen...)

Quote:
right clicking on depth gadget is only available for OS 4.1 users and it's not very handy, try to open more than 30 windows and you will see that right clicking on depth gadget wouldn't show you all opened windows to switch between them.

I was talking abouit right-clicking on the SCREEN's depth gadget. Works quite well for the number of "major programs" mosts users are likely to be running simultaneously.

Regarding "only available for OS 4.1 users", it seems quite reasonable to limit discussions about "Amiga OS is terrible at task switching" to the latest version of Amiga OS... Otherwise I could prove that Windows is extremely unstable by looking at Windows ME!

As far having 30 windows open on Workbench, that's probably because you're not using multiple-screens for big programs... or otherwise you are doing something that would be equally cumbersome to navigate on Windows!

P.S. I don't deny that multi-tasking on AmigaOS (4.1) could be improved, but it's certainly not "terrible" IMHO

Quote:
you can flip easily between apps in almost all mainstream operating systems using (Alt + Tab) or (Cmd + Tab for OS X), Every body use windows today and the majority consider Windows as a standard for every other OS

Well, the Amiga has LAmiga+M (and LAmiga+N), which works well for an OS built around the concept of multiple screens... something that Windows (& Mac OS to a lesser extent) still lack. (And the troubles you STILL get with games running Full Screen on Windows are evidence of this.)

The FKeys Commodity can be easily set-up to Cycle Windows using Alt-Tab or any other combination (and in fact Cycle Windows is the default function), although I've never had any need for it.

Whether we should blindly copy every quirk of Windows is a more debatable issue - we may end-up loosing some of the very things that make the Amiga unique. That's not a "no", but a "needs to be very carefully considered". FKeys coming with an "Alt-Tab" default might be a good idea.

Quote:
And not only task switching in Amiga as general is terrible, the file management is also terrible compared to other systems today, I'm not talking about DirMeUp or Directory Opus I'm talking about the standard Workbench file manager, even Windows 95 has a better file manager, and yes I know that OS 4.1 brings many enhancements to Workbench file management including copy and paste files but it isn't there yet, I think this is the reason why some people prefer MorphOS over OS 4.1 because it has the somewhat decent Ambient file manager.

At the risk of re-starting the red vs blue war, I will say that I find Ambient to be a bad file-manager (for how I personally would like to use it), where-as AmigaOS4.1 to be *fantastic* when you install Filer (which is a Contribution that comes with OS4.1). Filer is even integrated with ContextMenus, and brings Workbench to DOpus 5/Magellan levels IMHO.

I've only had time to do minimal testing but the latest files you sent to me in an email are working correctly. Sound play termination signaling is working. Multiple sound play with the same sound object is working. The WAV datatype is now recognizing all my WAV files and playing them correctly.

Thanks to you, the developer, and A-EON for the rapid response and fix. I'm sure that your concern and the resulting fully functional datatypes will be appreciated by all the enhancer users.

Hi

Some of the recent changes in the RadeonHD v2.18 have been to accommodate the new Warp3D Nova found in the Enhancer Software. I assume that you haven't yet upgraded to Enhancer Software ? If not, I think you will find it offers many good upgrades on a wide range of software. We hope to expand on it with future update(s) too.

There will no doubt be some forthcoming maintenance updates to RadeonHD v2 stand alone in due course, although the development emphasis has been firmly on the Enhancer Software recently. The best option in the meantime is to subscribe to notification updates in AMIStore for RadeonHD v2 and then and email we be sent to you once we update the standalone driver. Thanks for your patience.

Hi,

Previously I first on AMIStore bought Radeon HD v1.
Later on AMIStore I also bought Radeon HD v2.

I bought the Enhancer Software Standard Edition. Superb software!
When installing Enhancer Software v1.1, the installer detected
my Radeon HD v2.10 driver and recommended me not to install Radeon HD v1.17.
Therefore my interest for v2.18...

Great!

No need to hurry though. Do it when you have some time to spare...

----------

My wish now is that someone can update the USB-drivers regarding problems with Logitech mice and keyboards. They quite often freeze on my system (Sam460ex), after AmigaOS 4.1 FE has loaded.
So I don't think it's U-boot related..?

Secondly. Fixing some graphics glitches in AmigaOS 4.1 FE would be nice. A PNG rendering glitch in (for example) Dir Me Up: [ http://nicsoft.se/pics/DirMeUp_PNG_glitch.png ] and a "last letter" glitch,
(here an example) in Jack: [ http://nicsoft.se/pics/Jack_last-letter_glitch.png ] (The vertical line in the letter s). And finally a MUI glitch in OWB: [ http://nicsoft.se/pics/OWB_1.23_Close_glitch.png ]...

These glitches seems to be graphics.library (DMA?) related? So it's probably Hyperions business I believe..?

Hi.
I think there must be something wrong with the Gettuneinfo arexx command in Tunenet?
I'm just a layman when it comes to Arexx so the error might be me but i'm just getting error code 10 when sending it to Tunenet.

What command are you sending (exactly please not a generalisation).

You need to provide either the attribute you want to retrive or a stem var to get the whole lot.

Thus an accepetable script command might be

/* test gettuneinfo */

ADDRESS TUNENET.1

'GETTUNEINFO ATTR FILENAME'

SAY RESULT

'GETTUNEINFO STEM MYSTEM'

SAY MYSTEM.FILENAME MYSTEM.ARTIST

The docs:

arexx/GetTuneInfo arexx/GetTuneInfo

NAME
GetTuneInfo - retrieve information about the currently playing Tune

FORMAT
GETTUNEINFO |

TEMPLATE
GETTUNEINFO ATTR/K STEM/K

FUNCTION
Retrieves information about the current Tune.

OPTIONS
ATTR
Retrieves a specific attribute and returns it in the result
variable.

Attributes supported at time of writing include:

FILENAME Full path of file being played.
TUNENAME Name of tune or filename part if unnamed.
ARTIST Artist information
ALBUM
POSITION Position in playlist
PLAYCOUNT Current playcount.
GENRE ID3 Genre name
DURATION Tune duration
SONGNUM Song track number

A complete list of attributes available mey be queried via the
STEM see below.
STEM
Specify a stem variable to write the TuneInfo into
The list of attributes is placed under substem in the format

STEM.ATTRS.n.ATTR
STEM.ATTRS.0 gives the number of attributes
then STEM.ATTRS.n.ATTR gives the name of the attributes
then the attribute data is added to the main stem under each
attribute name
See Rexx/TuneInfo.rexx for example usage.

Here is the example script that should have been in the archive:

/* Example script to demonstrate rerieving song information */

address TUNENET.1

/*

This very simple script print all the information available on the
currently playing / highlighted tune without any advance knowledge of which attributes
are available.

If more attributes are added in a later TuneNet no addiational changes to the code are needed!

*/

GETTUNEINFO STEM "mystem"

/* We get the number of attributes from the ATTRS.0 substem */

say mystem.attrs.0

/* loop through */

do i = 1 to mystem.attrs.0

/* get the attribute nme from the attrs.i substem */
attrname = mystem.attrs.i.attr

/* print the info */

SAY attrname mystem.attrname

end

That sounds reasonable that it should work with your example script, thanks :) I'm not into arexx at all so was just experimenting with gettuneinfo and some parameters.

Is there a better place than this comment section to post problems and requests for the Enhancer package?

I've been testing ClipViewer and as a multi-screen user I find it difficult to use. If I'm working on another screen and open CLipViewer with the popup shortcut (Ctrl Alt V), it opens on the Workbench screen but doesn't bring the Workbench screen to the front. At first that left me wondering if it was opening at all until I finally realized it was working but opening on the Workbench screen. It's not all that useful to have your current editing window on one screen and CLipViewer on another screen. I would like to request the following TOOLTYPES:

WBTOFRONT - Brings the Workbench screen to the front if ClipViewer is opened on Workbench.

FRONTSCREEN - Opens ClipViewer on the front screen instead of always WorkBench.

PUBSCREEN - Specifies a PUBLIC screen for ClipViewer to open on.

How is the update rebate handled if i choose to get a dvd instead of the amistore download?

I already have CANDI, RadeonHD v1 and v2.
