Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : MultiEdit Updated
   posted by amigakit on 22-Nov-2020 17:04:22 (2112 reads)

A=EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce a new public update to the MultiEdit text editor: version 1.13 is now available on the Updater utility

It has been made available as a free download to customers who have purchased the standalone MultiEdit from AMIStore in 2016*

Additionally any customer who has previously purchased the commercial version of the Enhancer Software will be able to download it for free from the Updater utility.

This free update is not available on AMIStore directly: to download it you must have Updater installed on your system. If you have not previously purchased the commercial version of the Enhancer Software, the easiest way of doing this is to download and install the free of charge Enhancer Software Core. The Core edition contains the Updater utility and will give you access to the free of charge update to MultiEdit under the System tab.

The latest MultiEdit requires the new Toolbar Gadget Class. Please install that to your system using Updater at the same time that you update MultiEdit.

* requires Updater and Toolbar GC to be installed

Nice. What's new in this release? Bug fixes, new features?

Installed the update. Now it locks up as soon as you run it. Thanks Trevor!

Have you followed the advice above and installed Toolbar.gadget from Updater too?

You need this new gadget to run the updated MultiEdit

I installed all updates Updater told me to, so if the problem is it's missing, then it's Updater's fault

I note that after the update, Multiedit.debug runs, but regular Multiedit does not. Just hangs on open.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, is there any list somewhere of what's actually changed? I assume something important must have happened due to the announcement and version bump.

@mdr
@mobileconnect2

As per the Updater Information Changelog for MultiEdit,
"MultiEdit now uses the new Toolbar Gadget Class"

I don't know if there are any other changes, but this would be a significant change "under the hood" so to speak. As far as I can see, the look and feel is the same for the user.

NOTE: The latest MultiEdit requires the new Toolbar Gadget Class.

The program will not run without the new Toolbar Gadget Class.

Just for fun, I tried the new MultiEdit without new Toolbar Gadget Class and MultiEdit would not launch, but did not croak my system or generate any error messages.

Use of the toolbar.gadget makes the GUI more flexible, especiialy in the case where the images can't be found (wrong tooltype for example).

The main feature wth this release is the restore session after crash feature IIRC.

There are some bug fixes too but I not 100% sure what just at the moment.

All the new features should be documented in MultiEdiit.doc

That's strange as multiedit.debug is just the unstripped version, check the version numbers match.

And as Matthew asked did you install toolbar.gadget ? If so which version ?

LOL how many times do I have to say that Updater installed the updated gadget class. Here's the problem: Enhancer is full of buggy software. CANDI doesn't work. The Format app either (a) crashes or (b) attempts to format a different disk than the one you selected (you had one job FFS!). Updater is a p.o.c..

Your problems with MultiEdit are unique so far.

Updater is run weekly by hundreds of users successfully without problems with much positive feedback

We have never had this report before. The Format utility is mature software released for over five years without any such bug reports.

This sweeping statement is not a typical user experience. Please pmail me with your Amisphere username so I can follow up this with you.

Once would be sufficient, but you didn't say even that many times. What you said was that you installed everything updater told you too, or words to that effect. That allows for the possibilty that it didn't offer it to you.

Any way given that it's installed please do as I ask and provide the versions of MultiEdit and MultiEdit.debug to make sure they are the same version of the program.

Then if you could retest and capture a serial log of your crash we might get half a clue why it crashes for you (and it so far seems only you, but that isn't an edge case bug that your system setup triggers).

@mobileconnect2

Can you maybe make video using SRec or maybe you have Elgato, it can help developers to see what does exactly.

@broadblues

Maybe you send a debug version to him that logs everything that happens.
