This could be pretty huge, if Commodore supports AROS by hiring a few full time devs. Otherwise, if they're using AROS as a replacement for UAE I don't see it beating PowerPC and FPGA based Amigas. Anyone can run AROS on the x86 computer they already own.

So, how did they manage to get into contact with McBill? I'm surprised at the lack of conspiracy theories about this part. Oh wait, that's right, those are usually put forward by people who would be revelling in this "Amiga is coming to x86" hype. (of course it's not... It's only 'Amiga-like' coming to x86.. Oh wait. It's been that way for years hasn't it?)
Seriously, where are the critics saying "I don't see anything posted on the Amiga Inc website confirming this. I won't belive it. It's vapourware. I won't believe it unless Bll himselfposts here on this forum to say it's true."
I guess it's no surprise how one sided these claims really are, nor which side they usually come from.
Finally, computers will be manufactured under the name of the Amiga:) And no monsters under the name "AmigaOne"
And also good news for AROS ;)

This is funny.
I've never understood why some people wanted so badly to see the name Commodore placed back in front of Amiga, considering how detrimental Commodore as been for the Amiga. It's almost as bad as saying "Microsoft Amiga"
In any case, calling an x86 PC an Amiga would be an insult to everything the Amiga stands for so I'm hoping they'll use the name for something more noble than some rebadged PCs.
/me rushes to e-trade to invests all his savings on pop-corn stocks
This is essentially a rebranding and bundling enterprise.
Where is the profit going to come from? Where is the value going to be built from? There will not be any IP owned by this company except for some custom case designs.
Relying on an open-source operating system to sell hardware with razor-thin PC margins in a slow economy to a niche Amiga hobbyist market?
The following statement in the press release is what makes me believe the company is delusional, in my opinion (underlining added):
Quote:
"With the monumental strides that AROS has recently achieved, we realize the importance of accelerating this progress with funding that will enable this project to rapidly move forward and take it's rightful place at the forefront of desktop operating systems"
My first reaction is that someone came upon a decent inheritance but is blowing it big-time. Time will tell how long until the money/enthusiasm runs out and the harsh realities of the PC marketplace kick in.

Great - just what we need - another unprofessional individual living some sort of personal Amiga fantasy. These are just PCs with badges on. It's not what we want. Amiga Fantasy case or not.
It's not just the case we want to see - it's the next gen Amiga in it.
Just how is sticking an Amiga badge on a PC going to help? It runs AROS? Why would I want to buy a branded PC? If I'm running AROS I would just buy a standard PC - or use an old one.

I womder if this will give Bill MacEwen redemption in the Amiga world by bringing Amiga to x86 in the form of AROS. He is making it official, by using AROS as the Amiga Replacement OS (instead of OS5) and x86 hardware (which he likes.)
So, will Bill be vindicated? Will he be forgiven for past wrongs by doing what a host of people wanted, bringing Amiga officially to x86?
Well if its going to be so great. where is A-inc website. A pc with Amiga name on it does nothing for me. Much the same as when apple went X86 I lost interest in apple products. its just the same as the rest of the mass produced crap. I just hope one day in the future there will be some thing that is as advanced as amiga was when it come out 25 years ago. I don't care if it is amiga or some one we have not heard of yet as long as we get some thing exciting again soon. getting so board of computers lately nothing new just faster on the same old architecture.

Commodore USA doesn't even have the competence to build a website. Building computers are a bit more complicated so what they will end up doing is sticking Amiga stickers on a standard PC and putting a AROS CD in the box.
Me for sure doesn't need a X86 with an Amiga sticker. I already have a X86 on which one I could put Amiga stickers and install AROS.
What is interesting is the Amiga OS developed by Hyperion. As long as Commodore USA don't sells system with the Amiga OS they don't have more in common with Amiga as we know it than just the name. Personally I would not pay more than a dollar for a sticker and I wouldn't put it on a machine not actually being an Amiga OS compatible machine at all.
