| Har har, I switched to OGR-something permanently when RC5-64 completed.
Although I'm often reconsidering the whole crunching, certainly the G3 PPC would use less energy should I terminate it. Last edited by Thematic on 07-Jun-2007 at 10:55 PM.

| At least I've been running something useful, like OGR-P2. Could care less if RC5-72 goes away. _________________ This posting, in it's entirety, is the opinion and/or statement of the author and does not reflect the views and/or position of this site.

| Most of us knew RC5-72 was a waste of time, but the fact that it was an official RSA challenge with prize money gave a little reason to make it worthwhile. I mean, by the time the RC5-72 contest was completed, we'd in likelyhood all be dead anyway . Given that RSA have cancelled it, continuing with it seems like an even bigger waste of time now, and cpu power and electricity. I can't believe distributed.net are even considering continuing with it unofficially.
Anyway, doesn't concern me as my clients have been cracking OGR instead for years . Hopefully, distributed.net will find some new projects to add to the client to accompany OGR-P2 which will be cracked relatively quickly compared to RC5-72. _________________ IBrowse, AmiSSL and Warp Datatype Developer

I prefer the distributed efforts that process scientific data such as the protein structure prediction and gravitational wave detection efforts (see here. We don't have a BOINC client for the Amiga though.

| I agree with Hans. For those looking to contribute your CPU cycles to scientific study, http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org has serveral projects going and also includes the bionic client. Recently the cancer research project finished, but I'm continuing with the protein folding project as it targets serveral topics as cancer, alheimers and other diseses. Unfortunately as Hans mentioned, there isn't an Amiga client. They do have clients for Linux, PC and I beleive Mac. There is a small Linux/Amiga team called Amiganet where you'll find my input. Not a glamorous hobby though, unless you just like watching numbers. Maybe if enough interest grows, some one might help out with an Amiga specific client. I can even code a few lines maybe, but my freetime is in the negetive numbers lately..... matter of fact, work is calling.......

| When Amiga would finally release Altivec equipped machines, RC5 would go a lot faster. And as CPU's go multi-core, I wouldn't be so sure we wouldn't have seen the end of RC5-72.
Well, at least I hope to live a couple of more decades. |

Indeed, I noticed a boost of over 150% when OS4 got Altivec-support. _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff!

| Should I join OGR-PR?
Which one is the most beneficial for diseases research and at the same time Amiga exposure?
I have not got an Amiga anymore but I can use a couple of pcs _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

Well, I set up an Amiga World team years ago now but it kind of fell by the wayside.
I brought up the matter of a client to run on PPC machines in their forums but got a bit of a snooty brush-off.
Interesting project though - you can fold using ATI GPUs as well. _________________ Folding@Home Team AmigaWorld no: 33424

I saw more like 300-350% boost with Altivec! From 3.xMkeys to 10.5Mkeys or something like that IIRC. I had to validate my results om that statistics page which was certain I reported bullsh*t to it
Anyway, RC5-72 fried my Altivec so I haven't run it since november or something... Just as well, RC5-72 would take some 130 years anyway... _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.

| I think that the RC5 challenges were stupid anyway. Its not a matter a of IF but WHEN. All it does it make your computer run hot for no reason. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1

| How much time until someone got lucky enough to find the correct key. It was a brute-force method, there was absolutely no and I mean no question on *whether* the correct key would be found. Ever. _________________
