Nice post. Boy things are wonky in Amigaland when I'm agreeing with you! And that is not good as even the fanboys are getting tired of the "tactics"
I have a lot of respect for Acube and they deliver pretty much when they say. If they had just came out with the finished product as a suprise announcement all at once it would have been better received. Instead of the lame promo strategy. And I dont get the cheap case either. I mean the target market are guys who know good computers from bad. We dont need cheap plastic cases with cheap buttons. Not at those costs.. and to all the people saying this is a negative or cynical viewpoint.. its neither its HONEST. Nowadays EVERY electronic product when it comes out is torn apart online with reviews and comments. Good ones stand up.
I mean I dont even get the "Amiga one" or the "500" naming.. its neither????
Man I wish somone would just hack a Sam into a real Amiga 500 case. now thats a cool modding project! |

| That would require aCube to partner with CUSA (who presumably own the rights to the old CBM case designs, otherwise why hasn't anyone done this before?), and as we all know there's no way that's ever going to happen, there's just too much bad blood all around. It's a shame too, the A500 case was so huge by modern standards that you can fit a nice mobo and optical drive in there with tons of room to spare.
I've been thinking about this for the past couple days, and I must say that I agree with the dissenters on this one... big announcement followed by a simple rename of a product that's been on the market for a fair while already. Just a tad underwhelming, guys. You should have waited until the next hardware rev, and put that on a box and called it the A500. |

It would have been so easy for them to make it so much more exciting than this. They should have waited, untill they had something new hardware wise. It could have been just a better graphics chip or an XMOS chip onboard or something. Then they should have found a better beautiful stylish case, and launched it with a fun short teaser campaing (or not) |

Well i guess it is just the way how to sell few more SAMs to Amiga fans who think EUR 1000 computer is good deal.Last edited by ExiE on 21-Sep-2011 at 12:26 PM.

| Feedback whether negative or positive is always good for a company. I trust in Acube to seperate constructive criticism from hurtfull trolling, after all they've been here for a long time, and should know by now.
They should be clever enough to realise if they've made a mistake, and correct it ASAP

| Well I'm glad they have a "new" product.
I actually like the case and it does fill the gap between sticking with 2nd hand classic Amigas and the X1000.
I want the X1000, but if I feel they're kicking the #### out of us Amiga users when they announce the price then I might go for this AmigaOne 500 instead.
The cloak & dagger advertising was a bloody joke. I hope Acube think twice before engaging in such BS again. _________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64

How exactly? By going back in time?
Granted the ad might have been interpreted as something else, people do have too high expectations after all.
But it is the "celebration" of the licensing of the AmigaOne name which I suspect costs money. The 460 motherboard in an easy to carry case, nothing more, nothing less.
This gives us a unified line of AmigaOne products which is still an achievement.
I know too well how many times I have had to go back and modify my projects (which means pouring more money into it) because someone said: "it's too big, too small, too shiny, it will scratch easily, it'll reflect the light and blind you" and it helped but there are also the ones who just do it for trolling purposes and these are the most difficult to separate from proper, constructive criticism...trust me, I know. _________________ www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

I think that the case is what most people dont like With more case options that issue would go away. _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card

| I like that case. I wonder why people has so much to complain about it: it's not so much bulky, dimensions are fine and it allows enough expansibility to the motherboard. Is it cheap? Well, people that do not like it can still buy the SAM motherboard only, or just replace it with a better one. |

I think what is the problem here is missing link to Amiga 500. Amiga 500 was sold with an integrated keyboard and it was based on Amiga 1000 model but just cheaper and better than the original. A link to Commodore-Amiga line of computers is quite weak. _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook

Yes but it looks cheap and plasticky, and has no spirit whatsoever! The A500 - both the computer and its enclosure - was unique, the AmigaOne 500 is not. _________________ The Rear Window blog

| Obviously, the biggest news is Acube is using AmigaOne name and brand from now on. The machine itself is not the primary news.
I thought myself the case looks like a suitcase/briefcase when I first saw it. But then again Walker was looking like a vacuum cleaner (or a half splitted barrel). In that sense this case from Acube follows the tradition.

Actually the original A500 case was a bigger version of C128 or the new white C64 version. (And the computer itself was basicly A1000.)
@all I can't help myself but saying this the so called "community" is like a comedy show nowadays.
And I think anybody can still buy the bare motherboard alone and use whatever computer case they desire.
@Acube
Congratulations !

I hope I will be not excommunicated from this community, if I say I don´t like A500 design - ST looks much better.
AmigaOne 500 has decent case - exactly what I like. |

| There is Loriano X500 Plus project that will do what Acube and CUSA just can`t or won`t
Here is the AW.net discussion where author is asking for support.
Contact him if you are that interested.
Acube seems just trying to offer the full package, as well as this means that future Acube products will also be marketed as AmigaOnes.
While case is not the best, its nice Amiga mouse is added as well as keyboard stickers. _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja

Hondo the silly thing is i've been a "red" fan since my first amiga. I've always rooted for the os4 / a1 effort. Its just so many times it has fallen down and bad choices made. There is a big diff between "fan" and "fanboy" ;)
I see you are seeing the light and tired of the nonsense. I think this is what the community needs. Then maybe these companies will listen. probably not as you can see Hyperion doesnt even post here anymore (when this used to be the go to site for OS4 and A1 support, how sad and ironic) |

Exactly right.. i'd love ANYONE to help me understand WTF this has to do with an Amiga 500? I mean if they had some custom EUAE that launches from the taskbar as an A500 emu or something would be cool. Or if the case even Remotely looked like an a500. As a matter of fact its kind of an insult to call this an A500(my first amiga).. *LAME* |

| You're mistaken. It's not Commodore Amiga A500 from 1987. It's AmigaOne 500 from Acube and 2011. (No letter A in front of 5.)
Didn't Asus or Acer (or somebody else) have a minilaptop/tablet called A500 ? Are you going to sue them because their machine doesn't look like another A500 from year 1987 ?
