hello,

Maybe hyperion must sign the elbox NDA to have access to the DMA developpers tools/help ???

Don't remember/know really how work to be developpers for elbox products, maybe I said completely mistakes but maybe DMA supports need just NDA to be signed or is an impossible support for AOS4 on classics ??

Hyperion: have you signed something/agreements/hands shaking/some belgian leffe beers (the best),... with elbox to develop for elbox products ????

I thought he had said that by refusing AInc's preliminary injunction.

Amiga Inc must take action against hyperion by stopping them releasing os4 at the end of novemeber. If not then they look very bad and weak. As for the coupons that is just a pathetic stunt by them to look good in court.

Can I ask how old you are? And also, are you actually interested in running any form of AmigaOS at all?

No, the Mediator can't do DMA to main memory. It's a hardware problem, not a software one. Elbox instead used part of the memory of the gfx board as a DMA buffer to work around this, a kind of hack OS4 does not support.

I guess it would be possible for Elbox to release their own drivers using this DMA hack though.

I agree with amidog.

This would also help the lack of PPC cards for A1200/A4000 systems.

A shark would be useful to run OS4

@hatschi

I think it was the HD driver master.. Stephane Guillard!

But is it really that much difference between those two chips (710/770) that
it makes it impossible to do a driver?
Would it not be possible to do a 710 driver from the base of the 770 driver?

Btw where is Stephane these days? I haven't seen him post in a while now.

@Mrodfr

I have an NDA with Elbox since the time we wrote the Warp3D drivers for the Mediator. Neither Mediator nor Prometheus can do DMA, all that some of them can do is DMA to between cards but never to the mainboard, at least not to my knowledge.

They were done by Ignatios Souvatzis, although I think others had worked on them as well, but I can't tell who exactly without looking at the CVS logs.

@Rogue

So the likelihood of working SB128 and Ethernet cards is slim (or not at all), unless Elbox release updated drivers?

That's a bummer.

@rogue:

OK. Its a DMA problem with the motherboard. The problem is only the lack of DMA for amiga motherboard or also the method elbox use for the DMA between PCI cards ???? a missing feature (motherboard support DMA) or also the elbox DMA PCI cards method.

Thanks for your answer, rogue, I'm proud you answer me, a simple amiga user

Personnal feeling on:

No PPC A1200 cards here and no AONE or new hardware (SAM or MACmini) mean no AOS4 for me and I regret that Maybe I will buy AOS4 for the support for hyperion developpers... too sad......

I would like a PPC hardware with 1ghz+ for AOS4, no problem for the prize, It's amiga but It's a dream...

Personnal feeling off:

@Steve

Leffe rules! Although, Kwak and Duvel are my favs

Also st bernardus, karmelit, petrus are my favorite

I agree with you Mrodfr,

I WANT to buy OS4 but no PPC for A1200!

There is SAM but no OS4!

What an incredible situation!

AmigaOS 4.0 does not support any sort of DMA trick. Either it works, it doesn't. On the classics, it doesn't, so you cannot use a SB128 or fast ethernet card. It hardly matters, really since the transfers from/to the Zorro bus hardly ever reach 10 MByte/second.

No reason to point this out, really. We all know and we all agree. This thread, however, is about the Classic version.

Personally, I'd like a PA Semi board to play around with, I'd immediately go for dual-CPU support.

@The Daddy

There are 2 Blizzard PPCs for sale on the AmigaWorld.net Classified section as we speak.
So get an offer in quick!

Really, we could have do with AOS 4 for classics a few years ago or even when the PPC first appeared, then we might be in a different situation now.

Role on OS5!

Quite possibly, but I'm not sure of the legal process as to whether that is the be-all & end-all. Even if was true, I'll bet that Amiga Inc's lawyers will still try to find some loophole to stop Hyperion.

Leffe is class and Duvel is even better.
Haven't tasted Kwak but if you rate it as highly as Duvel, I will shortly.

@TiredofLife

It has been a long time since I had Kwak. I love the glass/holder you get it in, in the pub Kwak and Duvel both come very close for me, but I always remember Kwak being more enjoyable at the time.

They sell Leffe on tap at my local pub, so it's always being consumed by me They used to sell the triples in bottles, but stopped, due to lack of demand... a few of them and I was anyones lol.
