I have been monitoring this website for a long time and the Amiga scene since day 1 and been very interested to see what is going on, if anything with all the backstabbing that has been happening since C= when bust and just felt a need to post.

I've been an Amiga fan since day one when I got my first new shiny A500 and to this day I still have that Shiny Working A500, with all the upgrades I bought at the time I was extremely happy.

I knew what I was getting, when I bought it and that the hardware and software was available for that machine.

Then, I went to an A1200, which I still have along with it's brother, the A1200 in a tower with Blizzard PPC, which I hope is still working, because I just haven't had the space to keep these machines out and running alongside everything else I have to do.

Still, I have 4 Amigas, all Classics but only one capable of running the OS4 OS.

Now, if these reports are indeed true, I will be so pleased that I can finally try out OS4 and give my 1200PPC a much needed use again, so will probably have to get it hooked up again just to make sure it is all working properly.

Like many people that have gone through the major ups and downs of what is really now known as the Amiga world, it can be very hard to accept anything that is said as news, to be good news until there is hard facts, which includes hardware and software available to buy and in peoples hands.

There have been many times that I have had my fingers burnt, especially with the Amiga Inc fiasco over the Amiga Packs and the rebates etc, so it's very hard to believe what they are saying anymore, because it almost feels like they have no belief in the Amiga grand other than it possibly might make them money, but not in a good way.

Now, with this Semi Official news, and I mean Semi Official, because with everything that has gone on in the past months with the law case between Hyperion and AI, it is very hard to believe that it is true, until yet again, the days of old, where you could physically touch and feel the hardware and software and knew you could buy it in the blink of an eye, that I am still a little sceptical until I can see that OS for sale and people are receiving it ready for use in there classic systems.

I look forward to seeing this day happen and will be one of the first to purchase if it trully is the case, but until then, I will still monitor the situation and keep my fingers crossed.

Oh, and to the guy who said about having an Amiga OS running on a Dual Core system is what he is waiting for. Yes, that would be a great piece of kit, but even my Classic Amiga feels faster than any PC I run at times, when you consider the slow piece of crap we call Windblows.
I haven't seen OS4 running, but with OS3.9 runing on my PPC, that still blows me away for speed of use and functionality when you consider the limits of the hardware.

Now, all I need to do, is get my PPC machine to my girlfriends and try and find a spot to hook it up and test it still functions. Oh, and does anyone have any Idea what is the Best Ram to use on the BPPC boards, because I only have 40mb, and if the 64mb is a requirement I'm going to have to upgrade and find an alternative source of memory??

Thanks again for listening, and I, like many of you have my fingers crossed this is true.

edit by wegster - Again, legal speculation does not belong in this news item, nor does your ongoing choice of ignoring whether or not this was an 'official' announcement, rebuffed by several, including Rogue, speaking we have to assume, for Hyperion. Enough.

Flame/Attacks: Do not flame! Flaming refers to derogatory, abusive, threatening, sarcastic, rude, or otherwise mean-spirited messages directed at members/users. Be cautious when using sarcasm and humour. Without facial expressions and tone of voice, they do not translate easily over the Internet in posts and may be perceived as flaming. Report the flame posts immediately to an Amigaworld Team Member so that the situation can be dealt with immediately. A warning may be issued depending on the severity of flame/attacks.

Troll: Trolls show no respect for other people's opinions and deliberately crafts messages to provoke others with the intention of wasting their time and energy or just to cause anger and confrontations. There is no point in arguing with them; their minds are made up. Ignore them, and report the posts immediately to an Amigaworld Team Member. Repeat offenders may incur an instant banned.

Site Netiquette: We share one common ground, we are all Amiga users! Respect other opinions, even though you may not agree. Everyone is entitled to their say, but please do so in a courteous manner. Off-topic posts will be moved to the proper forum, and further action may be taken against repeat offenders.

It's easy to flame someone if you disagree, but remember, that type of behaviour is strictly prohibited. We come from different locations, we are a mix of ages, and our backgrounds vary. Take that into consideration before you click the post button. A moment of thought is better than hours of grief. The general rule of thumb is treat others as you would like to be treated.

Requests from our staff: At any time, if a moderator or administrator makes a request of a user, that user is expected to follow the instructions. We rarely, if ever, challenge our users to do something (usually this has to do with an inappropriate avatar or some sort of aberrant behaviour). However, when it does happen, we expect it to be followed; participate in this site, and you participate in it as a privilege, not a right. You may always PM an administrator or the webmaster to ask questions or file a complaint. However, I place great faith and trust in my staff to do the right thing. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Enough. You've been asked multiple times to behave yourself, stop the name calling, etc, and have disregarded this. Do NOT bother posting in this news item again, or you will immediately be restricted. Enough is enough.

There is nothing whatsoever been official announced by hyperion, asking someone to announce a product at a computer show is not official whatsoever

If one of the members of the OS4 betatester/dev team is officially asked by Hyperion management to announce something at a show, he is an official representative of Hyperion at that show. Perhaps next time we'll be arguing that the stuff we see at a Microsoft stand at a computer show is not official, because although the representatives have been asked by Microsoft management to demonstrate/announce things, Bill Gates is not there in person. *sigh*...

All it looks like atm is a feeble attempt to sell a product without having the companies name attached to it for legal purposes

Huh? It was announced that Hyperion will release OS4, so why do you say such silly things as they try to release it without Hyperion's name attached?

My post answered the question that you claimed I was dodging. Beyond that, I didn't feel the need to explain anything. So whatever you say now just comes over like a 13 year old kid.

In all fairness I'd say that a lot of people care. In this day, with court case and all, making an official press-release could be seen as the only official announcement. That would also instantly remove a lot of the speculations going on.

What speculations? Isn't it just speculations going on because it is inflamed by a few people that cannot stand any positive news about AmigaOS 4.0 and need to infest every single thread with their comments? Did anybody ever doubt it when I posted a news item in the News section before that it was genuine? Isn't it so that people like Bernie and glittering just exploit the general uneasiness of the ongoing lawsuit to further their own agenda?

Considering the comments I read, don't count on that being a permanent state. I just took the liberty to report glittering for abuse.

Not yet, I am adding a few finishing touches to the installer right now, and a few options to automate a few things, plus I need to finish the installation guide.

Yes is the software done? Or is there more work to be done, which is what is requiring it not to be able to be released until late next month? If the software is done I think it would be easier to treat the 11/30 date as more reliable if its down to merely Hyperion shipping whats already complete.

The software is done, it's mostly the installation process. We're also trying to get some last-minute additions (drivers) onto the CD (Terratec sound cards, RTL 8029 ethernet, X-Surf, and others) which more or less could be considered a bonus.

I'm sure that Bernie does have at least some abstract interest in OS4, given his past involvement with both Amiga Inc & (making a potential Next Gen) Amiga OS (product).

"Abstract interest"? You mean, like, wanting to see it fail?

Quote:
And he has a very good point - until the news item appears on Hyperion's web page, it would be quite easy for a Hyperion lawyer to claim that this 3rd-hand announcement of OS4 for Classic was unofficial (and wrong). Which given the court case so far, is not that far fetched.

It seems everybody is giving the court case too much credit, bordering on paranoia. However, if you look closely at it, this was only inflamed by comments from people that only have an "abstract interest" in AmigaOS 4.0.

Plainly, it's quite simple. Really. November 30th is about 40 days away. Just wait and see. What would a press release on Hyperion's site change if there wasn't anything available at that date? You guessed it. Nothing.

Quote:
And the reason why *others* might be interested in this legal POV are that this would indicate that OS4 on the 30th Nov is only a remote possibility, rather than a strong likely-hood.

Oh yeah, the legal point of view. How many of those posting here have any actual legal knowledge? I would say that the number is rather slim. I won't claim I have. People seem to think that reading a legal text is enough to understand it, which is not the case. So, what exactly does it tell you about the legal POV? Nothing at all.

Anyway, everybody thinks what he likes to think.

Yes, Rogue, there are people that can't handle any positive news about OS4 (I very much doubt Bernie is one of them though). There are also people who are very happy about OS4 news. Which of the two categories are you going to spend most time with? Why bother with the minority of people trying to provoke you all the time? There will always be people that don't approve of the choices you've made, or the way you do things, if you're going to hunt them all down you're not going to have time for anything else.

I'd love to see you and your brother post more, but you don't have to react to every single post made by people that are here just to put you down.

All of that said, I still think it can only be thought of as fair for the userbase to be somewhat restrictive in this. We are the ones with no possibility to influence anything at this point, it's all up to lawyers and judges. You have lawyers representing Hyperion, Amiga Inc has lawyers, we have no one, see the difference? It's also quite clear that none of the companies involved has acted in the users best interest at all times and a lot of users has been burnt.

All in all, I'd like to ask you to concentrate on the happy users instead.

Regards,
Joachim Birging

All right!

That is ENOUGH of Rogue baiting!
The announcement was made: OS4.0 for Classic on 30 November 2007. And, frankly, it's really no one's business but his and Hyperion regarding the back-end workings of this announcement.

THEN, Rogue comes on here to answer your questions, which he was NOT required to do and which he has now done sufficiently as far as *I* am concerned.

If you haven't the intelligence quotient to understand simple English phrases by way of explanation that he has posted above, then by all means, PM me and I will go over it with you in VERY simple English. If English is not your first language and you are experiencing difficulties in comprehension, thats fine as well. But for heaven's sake, leave the messenger ALONE!

****THIS IS A NEWS THREAD****

Take your petty fighting and back-biting and back-stabbing somewhere ELSE!
If need be, start a thread on the Forums and ask questions. However, leave this thread alone! I have lost patience with some of you and your nasty, uncalled for remarks!

This is a final warning... got it?

Not ALL of us are. Personally I believe that Hyperion and Amiga Inc. can come to an agreement of some kind. And my GOD tells me that I share this feeling with the MOST users here at Amigaworld.

What bothers me personally is, that it's court case now has been going on for that long now, and - also personally - I don't hope it will run for years.

And if you don't mind it, I'm quite eager to get my hands on AmigaOS 4. But I can wait until it's done.

To be honest, this is the first time in a long time I've felt quite positive about the situation in Amigaland.
Not everyone is convinced this will happen and if everyone is honest, we can all see why.
But from what I have read so far (and I'm no legal expert either) there is no longer any dispute about Hyperion being legally able to sell OS4 for classics.
Hyperion have already developed OS4 for the AmigaOne so I have no doubts whatsoever, that they can deliver for the classics.

I'm so confident, I might even change my nick.

It's not quite that simple. There are those that have their doubts that things will be resolved (I am sometimes in that group myself), and then there are those that want things to fail: Some have personal grudges against key developers, others feel cheated so they want revenge, and the rest are the kind of individual that is unhappy with their current state and derives pleasure from seeing others fail.
