what mean: no DMA tricks (about prometheus and mediator bus for a1200) ????

It means that AmigaOS 4.0 does not support any "misuse a graphics card as DMA memory" tricks.

Quote:
- accelerators cards supported

Easy: CyberStormPPC and BlizzardPPC. Nothing else so far has a PowerPC CPU.

Quote:
- hardrive controlers supported

The only ones I can mention here are the internal IDE controllers and the cyberstorm's PPC port. I think that some others like FastATA work too, but I don't know for sure, as I said a list of supported hardware will be published.

Quote:
- PCI cards on prometheus/mediator PCI bus supported.

Voodoo 3/4/5 graphics cards.
Permedia 2 PCI graphics card (as well as BVision/CVisionPPC cards)
probably Realtek 8029 Ethernet cards
Probably some Terratec (forgot the correct number) soundcard.

Quote:
I, of course, would like to use AOS4 on SAM or MAC MINI or other real PPC machine.

Pretty off-topic, and pretty obvious. Who wouldn't?

Well, this is certainly great news for Classic Amiga fans, but a bit disappointing for the one of us whom want the next-generation Amiga hardwares to run AmigaOS 4 for these computers..

Rob bites his tongue.

Also, if the rumours about AmigaOS 5 are true, then i think it's time to take that action now..

It's probably fairly safe to assume otherwise.

Congrats to anyone who has a classic waiting for OS4!

I will still buy a copy of OS4 for classics, although I don't have a classic Amiga. The manual alone is worth it. (Unless there will be a boxed AmigaOne version, in which case I will buy that one! )

Thank you Hyperion for delivering the promise.

Stupid question:
now with this classic version what kind of news are there in comparison with last update for A1? Are there an update for A1 users for aligning features of two versions?

Could I ask for a clarification here?

Rogue's signature block used to contain
Quote:
. I work for Hyperion but I don't speak for them. Got that?

yet no longer does.

And while listening to the actual audio reveals that the announcement was made by (I think) ssolie at the request of Hans-Joerg (Rogue), it is being reported as a Hyperion announcement everywhere.

So, *does* Rogue now speak for Hyperion? And if so, is that a general state of affairs, or a once-off thing? And if not, could anybody who does indeed have the authority to speak for Hyperion (and is not merely an independent third party contractor) either confirm or deny this announcement which is being attributed to Hyperion? (And if this actual Hyperion employee happens to post as "HyperionMP", it would be much appreciated if they could identify who is using that account at the current time).

Alternatively, it might be a good idea to actually mention this release plan on the involved companies' websites if it is a genuine plan. No indication whatsoever at ACube or either of Hyperion's sites at the current time....

Hi,

This is really a good new... Thank you Hyperion!

Too bad nobody can fix defective CyberStorm PPC!

I'm still using my A4000 (68060 side), in fact only for my SCSI scanner.

Bye!

good work hyperion! The Name Amiga really due to you!

Sadly i havent ppc-card for my classic nor an A1

I hope OS4 will appear on Sam440, i will buy it immediately because working with Winuae is not a good replacement to real hardware

Is it confirmed that GRex won't be supported?

This is great news. Almost too good to be true.

Thanks Hyperion and AmigaOS4 Team. Keep up the good work.

IIRC they couldn't get the necessary documentation from DCE. That was years ago and things didn't change.

@Thread

Good news!
Makes a nice change.

Do we order from ACube direct, or can I support my local Amiga dealer, and order through Amigakit?

@Umisef

I agree, it would be nice to see some official confirmation of this on the respective company websites.

btw - his sig does still contain the disclaimer, however sigs do not appear on comments attached to news items.

EDIT: added info regarding Rogue's sig.
