Nice as the Efika is its not really suitable as a low-end desktop system. Maybe if OS4 ran on it though it could make some inroads into the embedded market, although hopefully we'll still see this happen with the Sam440. _________________ Currently planning to upgrade my Amstrad CPC

OMG, you again. Will you, please, stop bashing Hyperion just becouse you don't like them?
They did not lie about completion of OS4, and you by claiming that show that you don't know what you are talking about.
Why don't you go to that other site (for the record, I don't have anything against other sites that deals with Amiga-like OS's) where I saw you talk about how you went to AW.net and purposely wind up people here, and how we are loosers and pathetic for likeing AOS4.0.

I'm sure that the MorphOS team will make great efforts to provide drivers for external CD/DVD drives.
You need not additional drivers for an USB DC/DVD drive. They all are handled by Poseidon and its massstorage class. _________________ Reggae · MorphOS Files · DigiBooster 3

It would be nice to see MorphOS sold on a branded memory stick, I think one of BBRV's old blogs hinted at this. |
That would be pretty slick |
Some concept images on this from the blog:
Hmm, why not?
Edit: But IMHO installing it over the network (maybe even over the Internet from a server at morphos-team.net, always the latest builds ) would be more convenient...Last edited by takemehomegrandma on 23-May-2007 at 07:08 AM.

| Very cheap, congrats to Genesi! Now we hope Amiga Inc lose and we can get OS4 on Efika too.
Efika = low end and cheap Sam440 = mid end and cheap ACK PA-Semi = high end if it will ever materialize but expensive. _________________ ikir

| Is it possible to ask for a different posting method? IMHO $94 posting cost is a bit too much for a $99 board. I hope it's not a dirty trick to compensate the missing $ from the 'cheap' board. It would be a cheap trick. |

@tomazkid I have absolutely nothing against MorphOS/Genesi news as long as it aint posted in a way that makes it look like it is Amiga or under the Amiga section. |
This is exactly my point as well. I think MorphOS is as cool as anything else Amiga related, BUT every time a Genesi/MOS news hits AMIGA-World it 1) adds to the confusion, and 2) it is often bad news/PR for Amiga/AmigaOS. Why should Apple promote Microsoft products on their homepage? The Amiga is in a delicate position at the moment, good PR and a "stable" community is very important. This is NOT helping.
I'm sad to say that with the long line of anti-Amiga trolling and negative attitude AmigaWorld has done more damage than good in the last year. I apologise if this is a slap on the face for the aw.net Staff, but wasn't this one of the main reasons for the Staff-split when Amigans.net was started? Personally I do understand why this happened, and it is sad indeed.

This one was posted under the right section as well, so i dont see why anyone should complain.. :) |
The news item was edited and the ref. to bbrv's blog was removed from the front page etc. Also the rather interesting moderator discussion was removed, which also confirmed my point btw.

And before anyone else jumps down on that comment, I know aw.net is not amiga.com, but it might as well be. It has better status in the community and more hits on google. So essentially aw.net has a bigger impact on the net than amiga.com. That's my point.

Why would that be? You heard da man: Genesi never lies!!!!!11 LOL, this was really made my day.
Anyway, I wouldn't buy such an underpowered mobo, even if it would run OS4. (Which has no chance at all.) But that is probably only me.Last edited by Rachy on 23-May-2007 at 08:46 AM.

| @takemehomegrandma,
oh sorry, I thought that was the default mode here seeing that the Amiga/Hyperion court case pops up in every thread.
edit: and this has been pointed out to Staff as well, so not only by forum post.

| Hi Shoe, we are not so sure. Check out yesterday's results:
The day before was much more heavily weighted for OSNews.
Of course, there were only a few from here.
This is also interesting:
The $99 price works well for many people. We hope you don't think this is all about OS4?!
It is more about this.

| Chip: Yes, I know the shipping is very high, but there is a reason for that.
Genesi only deliver using FedEx. FedEx is expensive, super-fast and very, very secure. FedEx will knock on your door here in Europe about two days after your order.
USPS will take considerably longer and is not as secure as FedEx.
Shoe: I hate to tell you, but The Amiga Companies(tm) are doing a pretty good job at confusing things up, all by themselves.. |

| That might be possible. Are you going to SceneCon? Karoly Balogh (Charlie/SGR) is organizing a demoscene party in Hungary, where there will be an EFIKA presentation with MorphOS 2.0 to show (along with GNU/Linux too, of course). The Open Client will also be shown.
There will also be a Pegasos2/G4 working there as a partyserver. It will provide network infrastructure for up to 50 client machines and more than 100 visitors. You ought to stop by. It should be a lot fun.
Genesi's representative Peter Czanik will be there. Among other things Peter works on the OpenSUSE support for the EFIKA/Open Client. Here our listing at Novell's site: Open Client. Peter may also demo LabView by National Instruments on QNX as he just completed some training on this last week.

| @Ironfist:
When I knocked around all major company, FedEx was the cheapest one. Sending an A1-XE (which is waaay bigger and heavier than an EFIKA) costs ~39Euros from Europe to Canada.
@bbrv:
In case of personal pickup, is the price still $99? |

| Of course! Just as it will be for PUSH thanks to all the years of hard work at GGS-Data and Pegasos.org. It is time all that hard work started to pay off!
We will work with others like Vesalia and AmigaKit to sponsor other events like these.
We have to run. Be back tomorrow.

Seeing as there is some negativity going on, i think you should reconsider and release the Efika without a warranty and hike up the price, also in this market it is mandatory to include faulty components. After that everyone should be happy. |

thanks for a constructive answer. However I fail to see what your statistics prove in this matter, my concern is not where people point their browsers, but rather what you-riding-on-the-Amiga will do to the Amiga in the long run. The computer industry is a bloody business, you of all people know that. And the right to defend a name and in this case a community, is in this day in age more important then ever. Not only for attracting the users and developers themselves. But a loyal (and loud) user is often one of the best marketing tools for a successful business.
I am very impressed with what Genesi have delivered over the last few years, and unfortunately I can't say the same for Amiga, Inc. It's funny, I occasionally read old Amiga Format & Amiga Computing and I recently read some issues around 97-98 when Viscorp was 'this close' to owning the Amiga brand. I keep wondering what would have happened if you had succeeded.
@ironfist, and right you are so why make it worse?
Take care. /Stefan |
