Announcement   Announcement : DiscreetFX Seeking to Add Resources for AmigaOS 4.x & MorphOS Development
posted by DiscreetFX on 18-Mar-2012 1:29:28 (10932 reads)
AmigaOS 4.x & MorphOS community we have listened to your feedback and are now seeking additional resources for DiscreetFX Labs to develop Aladdin 4D 6.0 for AmigaOS 4.x & MorphOS. You stated it was taking too long and we should not work on the OS X Lion version first so we are talking your feedback to heart. We are looking for one Amiga and MorphOS programmer proficient in C. No naughty Windows, Mac or Linux skills required, your time will be spent 100% working on coding what you love, AmigaOS 4.x & MorphOS!

A past resume on AmiNet, OS4Depot or MorphZone is a plus, preferably in the 3D animation/rendering software department. What do you get in return? Part time steady income from your Amiga development, don't quit your day job. This will be a long term commitment so we are looking for someone that loves to code 3D animation applications that wants to take Aladdin 4D to the next level. We don't need you just for version 6.0 but version 7,8,9 and beyond. Since you make royalties plus regular pay the more you do the more you make. We want someone excited to bite their programming teeth into a large exciting Amiga project. In the future you may have to work with the other developer working on the OS X Lion version of Aladdin 4D 6.0 but this will not be necessary in the beginning. AROS will not be left out in the cold, we will also need assistance in getting the AROS version coded once the AmigaOS 4.x and MorphOS versions are complete.

Contact us via the link below please with your CV/Resume and reasons why you are right for job. You will also be required to submit your code on a daily or at least weekly bases to a CVS and Blog about your progress to our customers. The Wizard of Oz behind the curtain development cycle of Aladdin 4D 6.0 has not pleased us either and we want future development to be in the public eye so customers see rapid progress.

Contact

Best regards

@ DiscreetFX

Are you sure your using a video format that YouTube accepts !!!

Also if it's longer than 15 minutes it may not work as most YouTube accounts are limited to videos of around 15 mins duration...

@ Paolone

I could well be "taking things too personal" but not quite in the way you most likely have in mind...

You I've probably had more communication with Bill & Tedd in my two short years on the net than most have had in their much longer length of time on the net...

Both Bill & Tedd know where I stand with them more than anyone else but my "criticism" of them here is not personal, ti's simply about the way the do things publicly on these forums that concerns the Amiga name and legacy...

Just like anyone running an Amiga related company be it CUSA, Amiga Forever or whomever, if they say or do things regarding the Commodore or Amiga names that I disagree with then I will make my views known on that...

You're right about one thing though most members of the Amiga Community have lost touch with reality, it was one of the first things I noted when I first discovered these forums two years back but honestly, who actually cares about anything said in Amigaland other than the few genuine Amiga users left, I'm pretty certain the public at large and the rest of the computing world don't care what happens in the crazy world of Amigaland...

As long as DiscreetFX doesn't charge people money for a non-existant version, I don't really see a problem. Although selling the old version, with the promise of the new version when it is finished, does come a little too close for my comfort.

Yes, DiscreetFX could improve their PR (it's a bit too loud & stereotypically American for my tastes), but at least they are still enthusiastic. Perhaps they need to run their news items past a few European users first, before posting them? (That's what you call "constuctive criticism". We could do with more of that, and less unhelpful criticism, in this thread.)

Don't believe it is anything to with being "loud & stereotypically American" I'd hardly call stereotyping people as being "constructive criticism" or that us "European users" don't get it...

It would seem from the reply I got from DiscreetFX on my own forum that they haven't taken anything said here as "unhelpful criticism" quite the opposite in fact...

http://crap.forumotion.co.uk/t81-time-to-add-it-all-up-discreetfx-rumbled#435

Stereotyping folk certainly isn't the way to go and nor is making assumptions that a few European users speak for us all...

All I'm saying is if you go trough all the trouble of getting money for getting source
code to this application and you put some more money into it by having someone
working on it, then why on earth would you like to shoot yourself in the foot in
a public forum and put yourself in the worst possible light ?

I'm talking about the announcement at A.org. It's a monument on how to NOT
handle PR.

That's an easy one to explain. The announcement was put out in good faith. But right after it was posted new unexpected work requirements forced me to delay editing the video and uploading it. Main revenue stream always trumps any part time DiscreetFX work.

@dfx: why is it so difficult to figure out? that sort of excuse would probably work out if it was the first or the second, or maybe even the third time.

Earlier you say that Ted doesnt work for DiscreetFX but first announcement of video is done by him. Try to decide does he work for Discreet or not and make public announcement about it. Because believe or not community is "BIT" tired to hear about "I didn't do it it was Ted!". This might fly in Amiga scene but if you really try to work on Apple side they except that you act as professional. Being "funny" can cost you a lot, you can't explain your funnies same way than in Amiga space. Basicly, don't let Tedd to post ANYTHING in name of DiscreetFX and you will be bit more on safer side. This farce could have been avoided if your "not affiliated in anyway" friend didn't announce your video days before it was ready.

@ Rose

You shouldn't pick on Hobbits...

AlexC is obviously a very frightened wee Hobbit who has clearly run into some big bad nasty trolls somewhere in his imagination and this has left him mentally scarred for life...

If he want's to post nasty wittle messages on forums directed at these imaginary beasts, then it's best just to let him and not tell him they actually don't exist, the shock may be a wee bit to much for him to handle and could send him even more stark raving bonkers...

I'm not sure why the second video does not work on YouTube, it just says processing forever. At first I thought it was because it was almost 5 GB in size. But I converted it and got it down to under 300 MB and it still never finishes processing. Gave up on that one and upload it to DiscreetFX server.

It can be found on the link below. This has been tested on OS X Lion, please let me know if it works for other operating systems. I'll be looking for other sites to post the video to as well.

www.aladdin4d.com

Also putting this video on Vimeo but it's only 20% complete on the upload.

Anywhoo, gonna have a look and see what all the fuss is about...

@Franko

If you click on the OS X Lion link on the page it will show you a screen shot of a newer build with a 2012 copyright notice. Updates to the code were just done this month. Right click on the video and do a save as.

Ahh. got it... it's downloading now, I'll check it out and see why you couldn't load it up on YouTube. It's only 256MB so that's not the problem (i've uploaded much bigger video files to YouTube), reckon you didn't "flatten" the video first and that's why it wouldn't work on YouTube...

I'm blaming Mac for this one. I did a direct upload from Final Cut Pro X, then when that did not work I exported it and did a manual upload using a browser.

@ DiscreetFX

Your better off just using Quicktime on a MAC for creating a final video for YouTube...

Final Cut Pro can be a wee bit "fussy" with it's output at times...

PS:It's still downloading, connection seems pretty slow...
