Software News   Software News : OS4 version of Beats Of Rage Released
posted by lovely on 16-Jul-2005 18:16:04 (7388 reads)
The stunning freeware beat em up game "Beats Of Rage" which is based upon King Of Fighters/Streets Of Rage has now hit OS4.

Mr Capehill ported it and the port has all sounds and music along with a 2player mode and of course the nifty and colour full graphics.

The game can also be played in window mode and in fullscreen in the choice of low or highres (highres beeing 640x480)

Beats Of Rage also supports alot of mods (ie other games/add-ons) (search the web for BoR Mods for more info)

Info:

Screenshots:

The Game data files is downloaded from here:
60MB Data Set

And ofcourse the OS4 binary can be found at os4depot:

OS4Binary

This was my first news item so be gentle oh and thanks to ToAks for showing me this game while i visited earlier today (and ofcourse thanks to MrCapehill for porting this gem of a game)

ps:i used over 20 minutes to figure out how to add Images and links as the buttons (url*/img etc) does'nt work in Ibrowse.

@lovely: it's sad because Ann.lu doesn't show the IP addresses of the news submitters...

I think that Wayne has set some "bot" to collect software news...

dani: i can ask frak to port to wos.

A.Wdesign@:

You can turn on the music names from the main menu , i got amazed to see tunes by Jesper Kyd (should be known to most Amiga users out there ) among the guys who made music for the game.

dani:it is about time you got os4 now

anyway most mods has problems with 1.0029 as it use a diffrent engine.

most mods are made for 1.0028 or before it seems anyway some mods works fine (i tried like 10 yesterday and 7 of them worked with no bugs though the 3 others was missing music and gfx bugs etc.

cheers

@About music etc...

Well that was the reason data is not uploaded to OS4Depot :I I think the authors are dancing on the blade with a slight copyright problem...

I'd like to see a mod with custom made graphics and sound, to avoid any copyright problem.
What do you think of a Fightin' Spirit based mod, with the game's authors' permission of course? I think it would be cool
The game runs smoothly and, most importantly, the controls are very responsive. And it's quite playable on the "hard" level, more than I thought at first :)

I have uploaded (hopefully!) bug fixed version of Beats of Rage + its source codes to OS4Depot.

Now there *should not* be anymore graphical corruptions in some mods.

For some reason, Beats of Rage takes more than 20 minutes(!!!) to get to the menu, then, after pressing "start game", it more or less slows to a crawl on the "loading" screen. I gave up at about 15 minutes.

Can anyone shed some light on why this happens?
Note:I have FFS on the games partition, but even discounting that, it's still excruciatingly slow.

I seem to have tried it only from SFS partition, with 600 buffers.

Check if Addbuffers helps? And yes, try also fs_plugin_cache dhX:, where X is your partition.

For example, Quake 2 on FFS partition is really slow loader without cache.
