hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : MPlayer Dirty Preview #4 Refresh
   posted by afxgroup on 25-Jul-2005 23:12:12 (5652 reads)
It is now possible to download a new version of mplayer on my site. It is an impreved dirty preview #4, these are the major changes: (read on)

Resolved the Altivec problem on G3 (please report!!!)
Resolved the GetBusKey Error
Removed use of asyncio.library. With Olaf Barthel's clib2 the original mplayer code works very well (almost sure.. :D )
Using mplayer pre7 (plus CVS changes) version. This include many new features and codecs. Look at their site
Removed WPA video driver. It was useless..
Swapped vo_overlay and vo_cgx video drivers. Now it is possible to use mplayer only with filename

Please send a report to me.

Thank you.

Andrea

On my system (A1XE G4, Radeon 9200, using the Radeon video driver from update2) every video has the colors wrong, with a green predominance. This in both window and fullscreen, from the GUI and shell. The video playback looks much smoother, though, the previous version did some slight frameskip on some of my videos.
WMV9 videos make the program crash now, while before you could only listen to the audio without any crash.

My initial tests suggest that this works even better than preview 3 on my 750FX. Nice work

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
- Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
- Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
- Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
- Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the lavdopts,
e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.- Broken file
- Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
- Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
- Try -nocache.
Read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html for tuning/speedup tips.

@afxgroup

Initial opinion (early opinion) - altivec detection bugs are squashed.
Excellent work.
Using SDL for audio. Testers on G3 please try AHI as well.
Testing in shell only initially.

Test file was in sync, centered, and played back audio and video in real time.

Best Wishes,

µA1 G3 with ud3

Shell setting: mplayer -vo cgx_vmem -ao ahi -fs angels.avi

Video is off the OS3.9 CD. Audio is scratchy, same with -ao ahi_dev option.

Shell setting: mplayer -vo cgx_vmem -ao sdl -fs angles.avi

Audio was pretty clean. I did hear a little noise, but that may have been the video itself.

The video is now centered with the -vo cgx_vmem option. I tried using GUI v1.31, but that produced a number or hard crashes & the ahi options produced no audio.

On my box (XE G4/933 with 512MB, Radeon 9800 and CMI8738 sound), media files play at full speed with audio with pretty good quality. DVDs play video at almost full speed, but DVD audio is just a loud buzzing sound, this happens with all audio options. Any ideas for a workaround?

1280x1024 32 bit. I've tried with a 16bit screen too, but then mplayer crashed.

@CodeSmith

Audio is buzzing here too, with files sourced from DVD. Other MPEGs seem ok, so I guess it is the audio codec.

Opening audio decoder: [liba52] AC3 decoding with liba52
Using AltiVec optimized IMDCT transform
AC3: 2.0 (stereo) 48000 Hz 256.0 kbit/s
Checking for AltiVec resampler : 0x00000002, 2
Using AltiVec optimized resampler
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16be, 256.0 kbit/16.67% (ratio: 32000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [a52] afm:liba52 (AC3-liba52)
