Announcement   Announcement : New AmigaOne X1000 Batch & New RadeonHD Driver

Cardiff, 2nd April 2013

New batch of AmigaOne X1000 approved for production

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that, due to overwhelming customer demand, we have commissioned another manufacturing run of AmigaOne X1000 systems with our suppliers. We expect to receive new boards from Varisys within 8 to 10 weeks.

Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit, our official distributor commented, "On-going delivery of the AmigaOne X1000 to customers is progressing. We also have a large backlog of customers who have already registered their interest and they will be serviced first from the new manufacturing batch." If you have already registered your interest you need take no further action as you are already in the order queue and will be contacted by AmigaKit to confirm your system specifications as they work through the backorder list. If you no longer wish to reserve your place please contact AmigaKit to remove yourself from the list. If you still wish to register your interest and have not yet done so, please visit the following web link: www.amigakit.com/x1000

Radeon HD version 1.0 RC1 available for download

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that the first Release Candidate of the RadeonHD driver (Version 1.0 RC1 (0.55) is now available for download by registered AmigaONE X1000 owners from the A-EON Technology website.

Registered customers: www.a-eon.com/?page=download&os=amigaos
New customers: www.a-eon.com/radeonhd

The new version fixes a number of minor issues and bugs including:

* Fixed a bug that could cause minor graphics corruption that occurred on a few graphics cards when switching between GPU and CPU based rendering (e.g., the arrow buttons in Directory Opus 4).

* Forces the OS to wait for the GPU to be idle before a soft reboot so that some Radeon HD 5xxx cards don't lock up if the soft-reboot occurs while they're still busy (requiring a hard reset).

* Re-enabled using timer device for longish delays when switching Screenmodes (no busy waiting means more CPU time for other tasks). Added a workaround so that this doesn't prevent soft reboots

* In addition, there have also been minor miscellaneous fixes.

Registered owners of new AmigaOne 500 and selected Sam460 systems purchased directly from ACube can also download the driver. If you own multiple AmigaOS systems you can also purchase additional licences through the same website.

About the Radeon HD driver: The driver supports 2D and Compositing under AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 with a wide range of Radeon HD PCI graphics cards including: the X1300-X1950 series, HD4000 series, "Evergreen" HD5000 series, "Northern Islands" HD6000 series and now the "Southern Island" HD7000 series. Version 0.54 is fully ready for 3D support to be added by Hyperion Entertainment. Please visit AmigaKit's website to obtain compatible graphics cards.

Link: www.amigakit.com

About the developer: Hans de Ruiter is an electrical & electronic engineer and leading AmigaOS developer and Amiga enthusiast. His website - HDRLab - details various projects, many of which are AmigaOS related. The biggest of these is the RadeonHD driver for AmigaOS, an ambitious project that aims to deliver modern graphics capabilities for the AmigaOS platform.

Nice!

Anyway, if I understand well - there is still no overlay support in the new Radeon driver?

Um, something that botheres me about this anouncement, the way theres a so called bug that you have to wait for the GPU to finish if its busy if you want to reboot.

No you dont. What if the GPU is busy because its caught in an infinite loop code glitch, you are going to have to hard reset teh machine anyway.

There is no soft reboot option, all there is is a please mr chipset, Im very sorry for bothering you at this time, but could you maybe possibly consider the options that you could maybe look at the possiblility of a reset maybe sometime in the near future, thank you?

You said before that for some severe perverse reason the GPU power ptions are set from teh computer, so shouldnt it be, if there is any form of reboot required, that that GPU goes down, hard. Pull the display ports, lock the PCI E address, kill the power. And thats if not locking the PCI E would cause the system to become unstable.

There is a reason there is a manual mechanical power switch in the supply line. When that machine is meant to go down, it DIES. No begging, no requests, no waiting, no mercy, INSTANT KILL.

This is Not a Windows PC.

This is good news.

Glad to see A-Eon is going strong.

Too bad I'm still flat broke and can't order one.

That is indeed a good news - even driver is still 2D only?

@RodTerl

I'm not seeing the problem here. If the GPU is locked up so doesn't ever go idle, a soft reset would have not helped anyway if GPU not idle leads to lockup on soft reset. So in that case it's just as well to just not do the soft reset, eventually the user will give up waiting and perform a hard reset. Randomly locking up computers on soft reset is surely a much bigger problem.

Very good news!

Thanks to everybody involved!

Will the price / conditions be the same as for the first batch?

Great news but the RadeonHD installer is broken? It just quits after selecting the default SYS:Kickstart drawer to copy the RadeonHD.chip file.

@Phantom

You have to download the RadeonHD.chip file from the same location and put it in the same directory as the main files from the installer and then do the install.

Last time I checked it was around 3000 EUR (be it 1000 EUR less I would have one ). I don´t think it will be any better now.
It seems price is not deciding factor for A-Eon customers. Sure Amiga name (AmigaOne) is important, but not guarantee of success. There are highly probably more X1000 users than Commodore Amiga Mini users.

I thought it were 3000 Dollar (not Euro). That is real customer service, makes it easier to remember the price

While I envy owners of AmigaOne X1000, this price could bring me 12 modern PCs.
A machine half of this price will sell for sure.

Keep up A-Eon

wajdy, of course it would. But unfortunately it was not possible. If they could have made this particular machine cheaper, you can bet they would have done so. Hopefully, the next machine will be less expensive, but we cannot expect a bargain.
