On December 17, 2007, DiscreetFX completed the acquisition of Aladdin 4D from Nova Design for an undisclosed sum of money. All remaining inventory of the current version is being shipped to DiscreetFX and Nova Design will no longer be selling this application. DiscreetFX is a leading developer of 3D digital video effects technology. This acquisition extends DiscreetFX's reach into 3D software development in the hobbist and beginner 3D animation industries. This also marks the first time DiscreetFX 100% controls an application. Before today we were always a 3rd party developer for other companies.

WookieChat 2.7 released |
| Software News posted by jahc on 15-Dec-2007 11:53:35 (5553 reads) |
WookieChat 2.7 now available for AmigaOS 3.x, AmigaOS 4.0, MorphOS and AROS.
Lots of changes in this release. Optional graphical smileys with themes and smiley popup chooser, graphical nicklist, configurable charset support, unread messages counter, automatic changing back to primary nick if you're disconnected and you reconnect before your primary nick times out, various GUI enhancements and options, nick completion works in private tabs now, an alpha quality AREXX port, enhancements and improvements to the Colour Settings (loadable themes, pictures able to be used in backgrounds), the /away command now affects all networks you're connected to rather than just the one being displayed, the IRCNet and BitlBee networks work better now because Wookie is no longer hardcoded to channels beginning with "#", added a "Clear all buffers" menu item, attempting to open a private tab to someone when one already exists will not open a duplicate anymore and instead switch to the existing one, there are quit/join notifications in private tabs now so you can see when someone you're chatting to privately has left IRC, added autojoin and nickserv password fields to the Servers window, bugfixes, and more.

Stricq, an ICQ client - updated by Nogfx and Michael Malyshev
A GPL ICQ client based on original Stricq sources provided kindly by Douglas F. McLaughlin (STRICQ), but probably outdated. The main differences with the last version released are Locale.library support (50% translated) and small GUI changes (especially Loading and About window)

Amiga Forever Cataloging Effort Reaches 10K Milestone |
| Announcement posted by mcb on 14-Dec-2007 6:23:20 (2211 reads) |
Cloanto Italia srl, Amiga software developers since 1986, announced today that their Amiga cataloging effort reached the milestone of ten thousand disk-based applications.
So far, Cloanto's effort focused on the cataloging of Amiga games and game-like educational titles. Reaching ten thousand titles (counting different major versions, but excluding minor variations) meant, among other things, processing several tens of thousands of floppy disk images, including format variations and non-exact duplicates, which have now been "handprinted". In practice, this data can be used to allow Amiga Forever users to search for games by title or keywords, to access multiple independent partner web sites with additional information and downloads, and to more easily play games without complex configuration. | hardware OS4 posted by BillE on 13-Dec-2007 20:19:11 (4598 reads) |
The "Digital Universe 1.5" for OS4 is now available worldwide and not just to the UK and Europe, in fact any galactic citizen with appropriate credit card can now order it!
Two choices of file are available for download, an LHA file or an ISO image for creating an install CD. UK and European users still have the option of ordering the software on a CD if they wish.
Those in the UK will also be able to order by cheque for either the CD or the downloadable version.

Epistula Instant Messenger Update |
| Software News posted by Slash on 12-Dec-2007 15:48:29 (7419 reads) |
Epistula Instant Messenger - Release v52.16
Just a quick release to get the public version of Epistula to the same level as the recently released Classic AmigaOS 4 version included on the CD.
So with this, there's new documentation and quite a few bug fixes thanks to Timothy De Groote's hard work over the past month. Thanks a lot Tim.
There is one bug left that I just can't track down... a crash occuring within a strlen() call, which I WILL have fixed for the next release. As usual the latest version it can be downloaded here.

Before Commodore came out with the Amiga in the mid to late 80's, there was tremedously successful and best selling computer of all time, the Commodore 64 in the early 80's. Too bad they were never able to replicate this same level of success with the Amiga.
In any case, today, Silicon Valley celebrated the Commodore 64's 25 years anniversary and Jack Tramiel, CBM founder, as well as many others such as CBM engineer, Bil Herd, Apple's co-founder, Steve Wozniak, Atari engineer and Pong designer, Al Acorn, were on hand to remember the "good" old days of the C64 and the rivalry with the Apple and Atari. Read more about it here.

AmigaSYS – Language supporting (read more)! |
| Announcement posted by Dary on 11-Dec-2007 21:23:51 (3240 reads) |
Do you want AmigaSYS to speak in your language?
The statistic part of the site is finished. I would like to ask everyone, if you writing an AmigaSYS report to a site, please always give the http://amigasys.extra.hu address, because this is the only way, I can get the exact information about the number of visitors, or whence they came.
AmigaSYS currently supports Hungarian, English, and Deutsch. I've noticed, the visitors came from over 35 countries. A percentaged statistics are made, with the visitors from every country. The statistics will shown, if another language support needed beside the English/Deutsch. What can you do to make AmigaSYS speaking in your language?
