Software News   Software News : IT'S DONE!
   posted by Rogue on 24-Dec-2006 15:59:13 (140663 reads)
Leuven, Belgium, 24 December 2006.

Hyperion-entertainment is very pleased to announce the immediate availability (for registered AmigaOne customers) of Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update.

Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0 (www.amigaos4.com) is the most stable, modern and feature-rich incarnation to date of the multi-media centric operating system launched by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) in 1985 with which it still retains a high degree of compatibility.

Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update is the culmination of 5 years of development and takes the form of a stand-alone ISO image which contains a full installation of all Amiga OS 4.0 components.

A list of new features can be found here .

Availability of PowerPC hardware suitable for operation with Amiga OS 4.0 will be announced by third parties early 2007.

The Hyperion Entertainment management would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and supporters a pleasant holiday season!

@Srbin

As you have nothing constructive to add, please leave this thread.

You may, of course, use our forum to start a thread that objectively deals with the differences in Reaction / MUI and what you prefer.

Congrats guys, now get the AmigaPPC version out!

Waiting on new, licensed hardware here

I admit I am paranoid but I see Amiga OS4.0, The Final Update not AOS4.0 Final....is there some significance here? Am I seeing conspiracy where there is none? :-/

Too many years in this game....

@JKD

Okey what do you think that changing 'When its done' to 'ITS DONE' mean? Final Update or just Final Version?

Christmas has indeed arrived!

Thank you to Hyperion, the developers and betatesters for a job well done.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

damn... i knew that something was wrong

Not at all. OS4 is reaction based. However it has MUI 3.9 so MUI apps work just fine. Also, Reaction has been improved since OS 3.9.

I don't know about you, but wouldn't it interesting that such core function, which helps to strengthen the Amiga identity, could be shared amongst the many Amiga alike systems so that it would help create the momentum needed to keep it going?

Why would they want to? It's obviously one of the best things in this update, if I were in their shoes I'd keep it for myself too, it's certainly one of the selling points of this product.

I'm genuinely curious to know what does "Final Update" actually mean, though. Is AOS4 development going to stop till new hardware comes out? Is this an effective true "release" of AmigaOS4? Or what?

"Final Update" means the final update for OS 4.0.

The next one will be 4.0.1 or 4.1, or whatever.

It's not obsolete... I'll continue to use it for AmigaOS 4.1

I don't mean giving up, but kind of sublicensing it... I don't mean giving it away, but setting a common ground on what Amiga should be perceived

Of course it takes two to dance Tango...
