Software News   Software News : IT'S DONE!
   posted by Rogue on 24-Dec-2006 15:59:13 (138028 reads)
Leuven, Belgium, 24 December 2006.

Hyperion-entertainment is very pleased to announce the immediate availability (for registered AmigaOne customers) of Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update.

Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0 (www.amigaos4.com) is the most stable, modern and feature-rich incarnation to date of the multi-media centric operating system launched by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) in 1985 with which it still retains a high degree of compatibility.

Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update is the culmination of 5 years of development and takes the form of a stand-alone ISO image which contains a full installation of all Amiga OS 4.0 components.

A list of new features can be found here .

Availability of PowerPC hardware suitable for operation with Amiga OS 4.0 will be announced by third parties early 2007.

The Hyperion Entertainment management would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and supporters a pleasant holiday season!

Congratulations for all of you guys for putting OS4 finally together. It's a huge effort!
What kind of fetures (e.g.: virtual memory, new drivers, graphics lib rework, etc.) may we expect in future updates (also not in a strict order though :)?
Which things are in the first places on your todo list?

stop this fabio. this is a statement. a slang usage that that means "we don't care" sure some individuals may care but the group as a (statistically) does not.

whether or not this is accurate remains to be seen but this is the usage of "who cares"

I don't normally give favoritism to news items but because this is such a historic moment for Amigans I've moved this news item back to the top to make sure everyone knows that OS4 final is done

Damn guys, what part of

but "who cares" is a question, and in your case it was a rethorical one, implying that no one cares
do you think conflicts with what you just said? You come off as not being able to read what you reply to!

@jkirk, Framiga & falemagn

Please stop the off topic question motivation/explanation/importance discussion etc etc etc. Take it to the free for all if you must, but not in here anymore.

@Framiga

Quote:
its "really" so important for you?

"2.06 Ownership. Amiga shall retain ownership of the Software. Other than the rights and licenses granted to the AmigaOne Partners and Hyperion and Eyetech individually, nothing in this Agreement shall be construed as limiting Amiga's right and title in the Software. At any time prior to the completion of OS 4.0 and no later than six (6) months thereafter and provided Amiga makes the payment pursuant to article 3.01 hereof, Hyperion shall transfer all Source Code, interest and title in OS 4.0 to Amiga to the extent it can do so under the agreements concluded with third party contractors. Hyperion shall use best efforts to secure the widest possible rights from third party contractors. Amiga hereby acknowledges and accepts that some third parties may only grant an Object Code license or may otherwise restrict the rights granted to Hyperion"

"3.01 Amiga may, at any time but no later than six (6) months after the completion of OS 4.0, elect to pay Hyperion Twenty Five Thousand USD (25,000 USD) in order to acquire the Object Code, Source Code and intellectual property of OS 4.0 pursuant to and within the limits set out in article 2.06 hereof. Said payment will first be applied against the balance of any outstanding invoices by the AmigaOne Partners vis á vis Amiga. In the event Amiga does not elect to carry out the aforementioned payment, all ownership and title in the enhancements and additions to the Software effected by Hyperion and its sucontractors pursuant to this Agreement, shall rest with Hyperion"

As you see, there is a timer involved, and that timer starts counting down six months from the point where OS4.0 is released. That is why it would be interesting to know when OS4.0 was released. Was it:

1) May 2004

or

2) December 2006

That question should be *really* easy to answer. It's either this, or that. Simple. What seems a little strange is the "Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0..." wordings in the press release (changed from OS4 Developer pre-release (pre-release being a release before the *real* release)), and that during *several pages* of discussing this *simple* question, no-one has been able to answer it, not even Hyperion or the Friedens. Very strange. Instead we have several pages of comments where people take turn in their bashing of those who asked this simple question. Why not simply answer it instead?

I hope you understand better now, Framiga and others, to why this question is so important?

Quote:
a "who cares" is enough as reply?

No, that would not be enough as a reply, at least not unless you really believe that ignorance is a bless, or you have no interest in the future of OS4.

@ Seer

Umisef had already clarified the reasons for asking such questions, in this very thread, here. For stating such reasons, he and the rest of us who asked the same questions have been attacked throughout the thread, even and especially by the people who should be the ones entitled to give an answer, like EntilZha:

Sorry, but GET A FRIGGING LIFE. Fabio, Umisef, if you don't like it, just move the frell on and leave the Amiga scene alone.
I'm saying this not to throw fuel on the fire, bur rather because having to put up with such comments literally hurts.

If everyone stayed calm and thought twice before hitting the reply button things like this thread wouldn't happen.

Just to be clear: is it obvious, now, that there was no reason to attack the group of us who asked those questions, given that you now thanked takemehomegrandma for having stated things that had already been explained earlier in the thread?

I would just like to breath some fresh air here.

@Falemagn,

Well, I missed his post I'm afraid, but I can see why others decided not to answer it because of the wording used. (like "just to make the whole thing even juicier" makes the reason for replying nice a bit hard).

And if it was made as clear as TMHG did in the first place without the word games and dancing around the issue would have helped a lot.

You say you didn't deserve to be attacked, indeed not. But playing with words just gives you that. Had you said the same as TMHG did the moment anybody asked you the "why" question I'm sure everybody would have respected that.

End of discussion about this. Free for all might make a nice place to keep going on about it if anybody wants to discuss this further.

@Seer

Why thank TMHG? He states things like he has the very contract in his hands, which I'm
quite sure he doesn't.

He knows exactly the same the rest does.. Nothing! It's only speculation, with that silly draft
of a contract that was (is) floating around a while back, backing his statements.
