Software News   Software News : IT'S DONE!
posted by Rogue on 24-Dec-2006 15:59:13 (131965 reads)
Leuven, Belgium, 24 December 2006.

Hyperion-entertainment is very pleased to announce the immediate availability (for registered AmigaOne customers) of Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update.

Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0 (www.amigaos4.com) is the most stable, modern and feature-rich incarnation to date of the multi-media centric operating system launched by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) in 1985 with which it still retains a high degree of compatibility.

Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update is the culmination of 5 years of development and takes the form of a stand-alone ISO image which contains a full installation of all Amiga OS 4.0 components.

A list of new features can be found here .

Availability of PowerPC hardware suitable for operation with Amiga OS 4.0 will be announced by third parties early 2007.

The Hyperion Entertainment management would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and supporters a pleasant holiday season!

"Final Update" means the final update for OS 4.0.

So is this a 4.0 release?

And, since it's about time, Merry Christmas! To whomever celebrates it.

I'm genuinely curious to know what does "Final Update" actually mean, though. Is AOS4 development going to stop till new hardware comes out? Is this an effective true "release" of AmigaOS4? Or what?

"Final Update" means that the next update released for OS 4 will be OS 4.01.

FWIW, OS 4 was released in May 2004, and has been updated ever since. This is the final update. Everything from now on will go into 4.01 (the first patch).

Congratulations Hyperion! Have an excellent holiday and New Year as well. Thanks for sticking with this despite all the rubbish that has gone on in the community.

Hmm, wonder where all the usual suspects are now (you know who you are).

I don't know about you, but wouldn't it interesting that such core function, which helps to strengthen the Amiga identity, could be shared amongst the many Amiga alike systems so that it would help create the momentum needed to keep it going?

The technology is rooted in Intuition and Graphics, so it is not possible to just rip it out. It is an integral part of the AmigaOS system.

So is this a 4.0 release?

It's AmigaOS 4.0 Final Update. Everything after this update will be 4.01, 4.02 etc.

Where are the screenshots of OS4.0? Since this news appeared on www.osnews.com, the Hyperion or amigaos4.com site should provide an easy accessible link to lot of OS4 screenshots. Let the people see the beauty!

A great Christmas present for the Amiga community for sure! Thanks for Hyperion and everyone else envolved in OS4 for the huge efforts put into reaching this stage.

Looking forward to downloading and getting this on my A1.
