To be honest it bores the pants off me. It is a distraction.
The sooner the people that have produced something win and those that haven't [Amiga Inc] lose the better. Then we can get on with producing Amiga software and hardware again.

Its good they officially have posted backup to what their beta tester and programmer contractor have said. Perhaps some should apologize with *how* they addressed that being important to clear up any questions, but to bring up that it should come from the horse's mouth *also* in a timely fashion is a simple important thing to expect. There is no reason for anyone to apologize for inquiring about that, especially given the history of announcement issues from Amiga related firms for years now.
In the real world, outside of Amigaland, companies post press releases to their website the day they are news. To take it with a grain of salt with anything Amiga-related until its confirmed by the source is just basic rationality.
Through questioning Rogue we got the nugget of info that the installer is not done but expected to be completed in time.
And through the press release we learn that Acube will distribute the software. Expectations are now better set and potential issues can be better understood.
People pushing for these things is a good thing, and even better yet companies in this space should just know better to handle them better. _________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200

| I think the news item is now slightly misleading because the "Manual" is in fact a "Quick Start" manual according to the version on Hyperion's web site.
This is sure good news for anybody with classic Amiga PPC hardware. I never did get involved with the dual-CPU nonsense myself so I never picked up a card. Kinda wish I had now just to see OS4 running on my Amiga 3000D. I imagine the classic PPC hardware and accessories will be sold at a premium now that OS4 is becoming publicly available.
So who will be the first to post a review or two comparing MorphOS and Amiga OS 4.0 running on the same hardware? Back up your claims with some data as well if you can. Run a few benchmarks and such. We've waited a long time to see MorphOS and Amiga OS go head to head on the same hardware so your chance is coming. Just try and keep it clean boys or Yo will have to get involved again and nobody wants that. _________________ ExecSG Team Lead

No idea about prism2.device. Don't know why 3c589.device doesn't work, but while it does work with OS3.x, it does not with OS4, atleast not on my A1200.

Oki, hopefully we'll see OS4 native drivers for 3c589 and prism2 too in the future. |

No. Glittering has no agenda whatsoever, he's just a very annoying person.

Some people will always find something to complain about instead of thanking for updates, news, software news etc. When a software news appears we have 0-6 replys and only sometimes more. When there is picking on anything there is aloooot of postings. |

| Having not been on the site for AGES I was pleasantly surprised to read up that OS4 for Classics is finally being released. I can see about pulling the A1200 I have down from the attic (has a PPC Blizz before anyone says ;)). The only remaining question is "how much" I need to start saving pennies |

Indeed, that would be interesting. However, I think regarding "real-life" performance on a BlizzardPPC, OS4 will appear dog-slow compared to Morphos, since it doesn't seem to support the onboard SCSI-controller.
~7-10MB/s (SCSI+) compared to ~2MB/s (IDE) will be easily noticeable.
Personally, I won't buy OS4 unless it fully supports the hardware it was meant to target. Don't know why, but I always took that for granted after >5 years of development.Last edited by hatschi on 23-Oct-2007 at 07:54 PM.

It depends on your definition of "manual". The book will have I think 50 pages or so, so it's not like that is just an "insert the CD and cross your fingers" type of thing _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| @hatschi Taking shots about "5 years" and stuff is not what we want. We (the community) want you to write a review comparing whatever hardware is supported by both systems. We don't want to see the words "I think" to appear anywhere in the review. We want real numbers and we want to see the same hardware compared apples to apples. The only difference between the two should be the OS itself.

| Hooray again for Hyperion! I'll buy my copy when it's released. It's awesome you're supporting Prometheus and Mediator PCI.
It is wierd people have anything bad to say. Someone must have an interest in stopping OS4. A release date, or anything close to it is all good news.
@BillE, you are exactly right. Contribute to the producers, Hyperion, instead of the non-producers.
Cheers Glittering, good apology. Last edited by logicalheart on 23-Oct-2007 at 09:16 PM.

| @ssolie:
I could give MOS another try to bootup on my machine (didn't work yet due to unknown reason but maybe I manage to get it up and running), so I could compare the two as soon as I own my copy of OS4
One thing I have to say in advance: The USB part of MOS is way better than the OS4 part, but that's an already known fact, I believe... a pity that Poseidon didn't make it to official OS4 USB stack, it's the best USB implementation I've seen so far... but the other way around, OS4 has RoadShow, so they count equal in advance

| I am happy for the lucky people with an accelerator, but sadly it does not mean much for the rest of us... These ppc accelerators are nearly as rare as AmigaONEs are these days, so we are in still the same situation as yesterday..
But good that the situation will improve for some users at least. |
