The reasoning *may* be along the lines that the original contract would have allowed Hyperion to sell OS4 for Classic (which is not disputed), so Hyperion should be allowed to unless the courts decide that Amiga Inc is allowed to cancel the contract. Although that would look kind of embarrassing to Amiga Inc, since (I believe) they claim they can't sell (ACK) OS4 hardware because of the court case...

edit: But whatever their reasoning, they obviously announced it now so that Amiga Inc have time to make any legal objections, and presumably get some sort of response from the judge as to whether they can do this or not. If they can, then I imagine that Hyperion will try pressing their case further, by trying to sell OS4 for Sam, etc.

I hope you realise that eBay prices for Cyberstorm and BlizzardPPC cards have just doubled overnight.

Once again Hyperion delivers. I might buy a copy just to get the manual. I have the A1 and no manual. Is their anyone selling new PowerPC cards for the classics?

Also, if Amiga Inc. would leave them alone, we would have Os 4 for the Sam, and I would own one.

I don't see any way there won't be an AInc lawyer in front of the judge this week getting a temporary injunction restraining you from advertizing, distributing or selling any such product. Given the ongoing legal question, I don't see how a judge would allow one party to proceed with using the IP when the ownership is in limbo.

Read the court docs! Amiga Inc already tried to get a preliminary injunction and failed in the early days of this court battle, also in case you hadn't noticed, ACube have been advertising OS4 classic for months.

I guess I better start to acquire parts for a 4000T. Now if I could just remember where I buried those jars of money.

@Hyperion/Rogue
If a new PPC accelerator was released, would your original license also allow you to port OS4 to this said accelerator? Or does the license only allow the current ppc ones?

Well, this is certainly great news for Classic Amiga fans, but a bit disappointing for the one of us whom want the next-generation Amiga hardwares to run AmigaOS 4 for these computers..

Also, if the rumours about AmigaOS 5 are true, then i think it's time to take that action now..
I want to run a modern AmigaOS on a modern computer-platform that already is Dual-Core or even Quad-Core. I want it cheap, fast, smooth and modern. Fair and simple...

This news is of course good, but not ground-breaking at all..

Anyway, congratulation to Hyperion...

I left the Classic Amiga scene long ago. It happened when i moved to AmigaOne, remember..

hello,

what mean: no DMA tricks (about prometheus and mediator bus for a1200) ????

needed is a list with:

- accelerators cards supported
- hardrive controlers supported
- PCI cards on prometheus/mediator PCI bus supported.

Thanks for all at hyperion but I don't have PPC boards and use SCSI

I, of course, would like to use AOS4 on SAM or MAC MINI or other real PPC machine.

Maybe now ELBOX will provide all with Shark PPC (because AOS4 work on elbox products) ????

bye

@Rogue

This is good news since it will expand the OS4 user base. When I bought my µA1, I was under the impression that I would get the Final OS4 on CDROM. Will current OS4 users be getting a CD? Will current OS4 users also get the manual? Maybe my impression about the CD was wrong but I would just like to know. I'm not going to argue over it if the answer is no.

I'm currently unable to compile several open-source OS4 programs because the authors have access to the latest SDK and are using it in their sources. Examples are YAM and Dopus4. I've made a number of open-source contributions for OS4 but am starting to feel "locked out" without the latest SDK. Any chance we will see it soon?

It's a shame that this wasn't available two years ago, before my Cyberstorm III equipped A4000 died on me. It would have been nice to install this, and then move OS3.9 to my A3000, 3.5 to my A2000, and so on.

...now if only some enterprising hardware company would release an SX-PPC expansion for my CD32...based on the 900Mhz 750CL ofcourse

the potential OS4 userbase would go up by 400,000
