The Aussies won't have a problem. Australia, New Zealand and other Asia/Pacific nations have just started waking up on 24 April while we're still stuck in the past (23 April). They have a whole day ahead of them to wait.

933 MHz vs. 1700 MHz!

=182.2%

1700MHz is 82% faster than 933 MHz.

Yes, even if you're running an altered frequency AmigaOne, it's still pretty much TWICE as fast!!!!!

The only thing holding you back is the speed of main system ram.

Question is, how much L2 cache is in the AmigaOne XE CPU vs. L2 cache in the 1.7 GHz CPU?



Well, I will have to buy this (1.7GHz).... Time to liquidate some items I have.

I know someone who could use my CPU. (They're going to get an excellent deal, too.)

OS4 does not (or puiblic versions at least) support SMP. IIRC, Rogue had a dual module at one point, but it wasn't using both CPU modules, or something along those lines.

These CPUs aren't socketed, they're surface mount only, thus, no socket to add.

If you really feel like playing, you may be able to find a copy of 'setA1' by DrBombCrater, somewhere. Faster RAM won't do much, as the Articia won't support it. You _may_ if exceedingly lucky, manage to find some ram to run at CAS2 instead of CAS3 that current uBoot seems to limit RAM to, but I've yet to find any RAM to use in the A1 (several hundred dollars worth of RAM here) that can run in CAS2 without errors showing up in memtester.

Hey cool down!
This is just a CPU module. It's not a order for 1 million copies of OS4

The older G4 CPU's used by most A1's has 256KB L2 cache. The 7448
has 1MB (same as G3 750GX for the µA1's).

Also you can't calculate speed the way you wrote.
The 7448's are probably some % faster than the older G4's in the same
frequency. This would mean that the 7448 1.7GHz is probably more than
twice the speed. But this is just the CPU. You have to calculate this in
the complete A1 system to get some real life comparisons. As the
Articia S and its memory bus is extremely slow you can probably guarantee
that the 7448 won't be fully utilized by the system. But it will be ALOT
faster than any other CPU card for A1's that you can have my word on

Ah, what delight to wake on a cool Autumn morning, turn on the computer with the faint hope of some news of the PowerVixxen, and find instead exciting news of upgrades for my XE!

As Niels said, this module would double the short-term CPU-bound performance of my G4 XE. Bearing in mind that there are plenty of G3 XE owners around here who would be interested in buying a second hand G4 module, I have to say "Me too! Me too!"

The knockers and sceptics will be out in force, naturally, but I know Adam has been working on this project for some time and I am glad to see that it is closer to reality. Let's hope we don't have any connector supply problems
