Hardware News   Hardware News : Troika NG Progress Report
posted by Troika on 26-May-2006 2:36:43 (36538 reads)
We thought a progress report was in order as we have some very good news. After much development we are happy to report that version 1.4 of Amy'05 is nearly complete. Our next progress report will contain lots of information about Amy, along with the much awaited Photo's!

For many of the first adopters of Eyetech Amiga One models, their needs and wants have grown past the specifications of the machines they are currently using and they wish to upgrade to a more modern motherboard design.

Our original intent with project “Prometheus” was to design and build several low cost lines of motherboards, built on proven technology. The Amy’05 design would be followed by a more powerful design. When we designed Amy’05 we did not envisage the changes that have taken place in the Power PC market, most notable, Apple's shift from PowerPC to Intel that has presented both problems as well as opportunities for Troika.

While developing Amy’05 we have been investigating several good opportunities for the existing Amiga user base. We have found others with similar business interests to ours, from which we were able to form new alliances which has allowed us to begin due diligence procedures for purchasing a design of a higher end motherboard. Acquiring the rights to this motherboard will allow us to bring a higher end board to market far quicker than if we were to design one from the ground up. Also, by forming new alliances we will be able to bring the per unit cost of this motherboard down - a saving that we wish to pass on to you.

We would like to show you photographs of our higher end motherboard but our NDA does not permit this. However, we are able to show you pictures that have been cropped to conceal the board’s identity.

Provided we are able to do this, we plan on offering this higher end motherboard as a compliment to our first line of Amy motherboards.

We have been down this road before, with announcements based on assurances from third parties who have failed to deliver. Amy’05 has encountered problems but they are all in the past.

Between now and then we shall post regular progress reports, instead of intermittent press releases and promises.

Motherboard with Tsi-109 & 7448 .

Our Sound system.

We are proud to announce that another piece of solder has been placed on the UberMiga board. We are on schedule and rockin'. There should be another meticulously-positioned drop of solder placed in the next two weeks.

Good to see some joking at the end but... all this talk about vapor and so on... if this is for real, how does it makes them feel? If you worked your a** off to bring out hw and read this how would it make you feel?

If I were running a business and my customers (potential or otherwise) were complaining, I'd try to do something about it. If they continue to complain then that's my fault, not theirs.

Sure. But if you want to relate this to some comments in Amiga typical forums, you'd never finish a product. No matter what you do, somebody will always complain. Sad, but true.

But, OTHO, I also think, they (e.g. Adam, and I guess also Troika) took some recommendations from useres serious and change(d) the specs of their products.

I for one am very glad that they dropped the TSI 108 for the '109. It makes the difference between yet another underpowered retroboard and something I'd consider for serious use. I have no idea if it was one of my comments that made them do this (a guy can dream though ) but I'm very glad that they did.

Between this and Adam's comments about PCIe support on his upcoming board, I can't believe I'm actually going to have to do some comparison before I buy my next amiga!

PS: Is the Amy'05 going to have PCIe or AGP?

SharkPPC must definitely not be vapourware because Elbox has clearly stated that: "production of SharkPPC cards will start as soon as the final version of AmigaOS4.0 for A1 is released." So they did not miss the deadline.

Oh, give it a rest already. How often will you repeat this crap?

Again, we've not even been approached by Elbox concerning a port for SharkPPC, I for one find it extremely unrealistic to think that they will start this when OS 4 is released.

So, *please* for the 100th time, stop blaming OS 4 for the non-existance of the SharkPPC. It has absolutely zero to do with it.

i know of projects which actually was "trolled" to death , and many belived the authors tolerated such nonsense since it had its text wrapped around humours comments.

Especially since the "humorous comments" are usually done by a) the same people over and over and b) by people that do not produce anything but "humorous comments".

Plainly, it becomes boring after a while.

I think it is negative. But it would be quite easy - you don't believe it, ignore it. But no, we can't do that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the topic of Troika, there are no customers yet. All that Troika is doing is telling what they are doing and/or planning. Problem is that most of you people do not realize under what conditions the Amiga market has to work, but of course, bitching and trolling is always easy.

And yeah, it's *always* "their" fault.

Newsflash!
Troika and ACK Controls are the same guy!

Both announced something lowend, then went silent. After a year they announced they
were working on two boards, the original and one highend.

They have to be the same person. Noone in their right minds would work on two boards
at the same time in this community!

@Troika

Thanks for the update. I look forward to a live demo of OS4 booting on either Amy'05 or your "higher end motherboard".

Oh come on, you know how they say, "act like an idiot, get treated like an idiot" and one can say or think about what one wants about Troika, but they turned acting like an idiot into a form of art ....

It must be so nice to redefine your deadlines at will, and have people forget all about your
earlier announcements.

However, some of us remember that the Shark is now more than half a decade past its announced release date (which, incidentally, predates even the first supposed OS4).

Doing good for everyone in this Amiga-community "is" a form of art.

Maybe Troika can use this as a learning experience on how to target their audience. Amiga users might feel insulted being shown crude diagrams and dumb computer pieces. Showing pictures of disconnected components and packaging looks like a lame and desparate attempt to show something -- anything. It's better not to show any pictures at all. Some of these people cracking jokes are ready to spends hundreds of dollars on a working board.

They don't finish their "products" because they can't deliver, not because of someones criticism in forums :)

I love this! Everytime the blue guys (negative and/or MOS+Pegasos owners) comes in in droves to complain they're REALLY scared MorhpOS will fall behind..

I am glad your not an OS4developer with a gun ... give good criticism or get shot .

I can understand you follow criticism (or negativism) to a certain line but ...
If all comments about a product are good ... then there is never going to be the need for improvement. Take PSP, Xbox360, Intelmac,... there is always someone telling you it's not that a great product ( or is going to be ) . And we are talking about community's that didn't even had 1/4 of the drawbacks and vaporware the Amigacommunity had. Even when someone is only spitting out negativism here, the fact that he is still here wants to say he still believes in it ( altough sometimes very little ) .
