Software News   Software News : IT'S DONE!
   posted by Rogue on 24-Dec-2006 15:59:13 (140659 reads)
Leuven, Belgium, 24 December 2006.

Hyperion-entertainment is very pleased to announce the immediate availability (for registered AmigaOne customers) of Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update.

Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0 (www.amigaos4.com) is the most stable, modern and feature-rich incarnation to date of the multi-media centric operating system launched by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) in 1985 with which it still retains a high degree of compatibility.

Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update is the culmination of 5 years of development and takes the form of a stand-alone ISO image which contains a full installation of all Amiga OS 4.0 components.

A list of new features can be found here .

Availability of PowerPC hardware suitable for operation with Amiga OS 4.0 will be announced by third parties early 2007.

The Hyperion Entertainment management would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and supporters a pleasant holiday season!

That's very cool.

Looking forward to hardware so I can try it out!

I've told the masses:

hmm, "The Final Update" it almost sounds like it's end of life and this is the "last" update for OS4

Maybe the topic of the news should be "AmigaOS4 Final released" or something?

edit: sorry, just realized that HJF wrote that in the news item here too. Didn't know it was considered an "update".

@Rogue

Congratulations!

I wasn't expecting a long list of update 5 features - so that's a bonus.

What is better is that the political/commercial issues around OS4 seem to be easing and the only landmark we need to see now is new hardware shipping!

WHAT? It's DONE!?!?!?!

Does it mean that there will be no more flame wars, trolling, argueing MOS vs AROS vs OS4? My dad is stronger than your dad?!! Noooooo.....

Congratulations ppl, i must say i was the biggest sceptic about OS4. Before i buy some fancy h/w, i hope that somebody will make an objective review of os4 and compare os4 vs mos.

Q: mos is heavily based on mui. Is os4 too?

I don't know about you, but wouldn't it interesting that such core function, which helps to strengthen the Amiga identity, could be shared amongst the many Amiga alike systems so that it would help create the momentum needed to keep it going?

It was already done in the past where either MorphOS/AmigaOS lended software from AROS for the benefit of all

@shoe

Hmm, that's a point, but to be honest all I did was cut and paste the official press release into OS news form. So blame them!

Suppose we could tell /. but as I've never registered there*, someone else will have to do it!

* bit too nerdy, yes, even for me!

OS4 has gone from strength to strength with each pre-release, and now we have OS4 final.

My sincere thanks to all invloved, especially the Friedens who championed this great OS.

Updated and installed!

I know how easy it is to miss a small detail but I've seen a few posts here refering to OS4 Final. The news item is about OS4, The Final Update. Small difference but I'm sure there's some significance.

But this is great news - no mistake! At least it'll make me think twice (more like for a 22nd time) about rushing into an A9home purchase.
