Software News   Software News : Updated cross-compilers for AmigaOS 4.1
   posted by zerohero on 24-Oct-2009 13:10:16 (5058 reads)
Since the release of the SDK 53.15 I have been meaning to update the cross-compilers on my homepage. Now I've finally been able to do so.

I urge everyone using the old set of compilers with binutils 2.14 to upgrade to this version because of alignment issues with the AMCC 440ep the former binutils had. There are x86_64-linux, i686-linux and i686-cygwin version at this point, I don't have other systems available, but I will add other versions if I can.

Please visit http://www.zerohero.se/cross/os4.html for download links and a short tutorial on how to set them up.

EDIT: Updated with compiler with a i686-linux host.

Regards,
Joachim Birging

@zerohero

Thanks for this. I might get round to setting up a cross-compiler and trying out distcc after all.

I'm particular interested in a straight x86 linux version, if that could be done.

Great work !

This would be really useful.

If only we had Amiupdate for a complete updateable developer suite

@broadblues

Make that +1 for an x86 linux version. I didn't notice that the x86 Linux version was still to do when I first saw this news item.

@diegocr, broadblues and hans

I have an i686 machine here, which I was going to install debian onto. The DVD drive was broken though, so no go there. Found an old CD drive I installed, turned out it was broken as well. When I have something I will upload.

There. Found another DVD drive and installed debian. I686-linux archives on the site.

Should a cross compiler be able to link the objects created by a native version?

I ask because when I try I get a lot weird errors about overlapping sections.

It does happily build a "helloworld" which then runs under amigaos.

Any chance of a version that doesn't require cygwin?

That reminds me. I need to upload my distcc article to my web site. The best thing about a tool like distcc is that you don't need to worry about header files and stuff. Those are pushed out to the slave nodes for you so the only configuration needed is an installed compiler.

I do not have too much experience compiling PPC code (well, nearly Zero experience to be honest..) but i think it should be possible without problems... unless, you're compiling using .so libs from different SDKs, maybe?

I did noticed "strange linker errors"..when compiling a program using object files from different Linux distros/versions....

Hello Diego,

THIS are verry good question to be posed on an dedicated thread or on utilitybase.

Don't think lots of users now will read the comments of this news (become old).

Interesting to see that you make attempt to compile a PPC version (internal testing or more)

Well, it was asked here so i just replied here, i wouldn't recommend to take an answer from a novice user (as i am with PPC) too serious.. i just tried to help a bit since nobody else replied..

uhm.. and it surprises you? I've released some os4 ports on Amiga.sf, and the last one i did thanks to Kicko's help from amigift-devel ML... (Yes, the same ML you're subscribed to, but that was indeed some months ago )
