| Umm, blunt. Good.
His reply to the laptop question, to me, seemed a bit down in the mouth. :[ ....
[quote] but looking at the response of "the community" towards the efforts of A-Eon, I doubt it will ever happen.[\quote]

Had the A1XE been the X1K we would now be well on our way to becoming a established platform, even with the lawsuits. But............... 'a new beginning', I'll take it.
So, 'the community' ? Naa.

| I really liked the AmigaOS4.1.1 review and Rigo's interview. The French to English translation makes Rigos answers even more "interesting".

I suspect that his answer was inspired by some of the posts on AmigaWorld.net . For better or worse, the site allows anyone from any camp to post, as long as they don't troll *too* obviously. (I find it hard to imagine he'd have much to complain about on Amigans.net .)
Sadly I have quite a bit of sympathy for his opinion, although I hope he'll learn to ignore the negativity a little better. I also hope the negativity drops as OS4 continues to move forward. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue...

The text that was submitted was exactly as it was when submitted to me, and is 100% as I replied.
There's no bablefish/google translation errors here, the questions are exactly as I got them, and the answers are exactly as I gave them.
I'm not here to make friends, the questions were answered honestly, not to make people happy. 97% of the people in this coomunity can go and catch fire as far as I'm concerned, I know who I'd want holding my extinguisher if push comes to shove. Last edited by rigo on 24-Feb-2010 at 03:19 AM.

I looked at this because i'd seen your really helpful answers to questions elsewhere. First time i'd seen mention of codebench. I'll definitely download one of the beta versions to try... and buy if i like it :O)
Sorry to see the negativity getting to you. The hardest thing for someone in your position to see is probably that for every 1 person who moans about something there are 9 quiet people saying nothing....

Don't hold back now Simon, say what you really mean!
Seriously, a few of my Amiga related articles/reviews have been translated into French for Obligement website. IMHO they do an excellent job. However, I noticed that the online "handmade translation" from French back to English on the Obligement website does not translate the article back to my original (English) article. The translation is OK but not perfect and introduces a few interesting idiosyncrasies .

Although some of them are pretty cool and very helpful, there are so many bad attitudes and delusions of grandeur amongst certain individuals that it's hard to take any of them seriously... so I'd tend to agree with you here!
Anyway, my opinion would be good review but a poor interview! _________________ This fire is burnin' and it's out of control It's not a problem you can stop, It's rock n' roll - GN'F'N'R

| I'm as open minded as anyone when it comes to Amiga and Amigalike operating systems. I regularly use OS 1.3, 3.1, (3.9 occasionally), AROS, and MorphOS at home, and although I haven't personally used OS 4 yet, I was really impressed by what I saw at Amiga Revival 09 and I would love to give some desk space to an OS 4 machine. The X1000 looks fantastic so far, and I'm looking forward to more info over the coming months.
But when I read things like "97% of the people in this coomunity can go and catch fire as far as I'm concerned", it makes me think twice about laying down the cash for OS4 hardware/software. It just sours the experience.
I can kind of understand the base of the sentiment, after everything that's gone on for the past 10 years, but this open hostility to the potential customer base seems like terrible PR to me.
I know nobody will care what I think, but I just wanted to air the opinion of someone who's about as OS neutral as it gets. Last edited by Gleng on 24-Feb-2010 at 11:00 AM.

Totally agree. If that's the attitude, it makes me wonder, why be part of it/bother developing for Amiga? I can't imagine it pays much. It sounded very full of bile and bitterness. Last edited by danwood on 24-Feb-2010 at 11:51 AM.

| Is it the French to English translation that makes Simon appear callus?
At the end he tells the Amiga Community to grow up. It's not a bad suggestion. However, earlier in the review he responds to questions by telling the interviewer to go look at another article for his answer. He also says he won't tell which Amiga parts he worked on because he doesn't want the blame. Seems to me he might do well with taking a bit of his own advice. |
