hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : New CPU Modules: Estimated Availability June 19/2006
posted by ackcontrls on 23-Apr-2006 15:30:37 (71020 reads)
ACK Software Controls, Inc. is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of two new AmigaOne XE CPU modules. The first CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 CPU clocked at 1GHz. The 1GHz module will retail for $500.00 US Dollars. The second CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 clocked at 1.7GHz will retail for $850.00 US Dollars. Both CPU modules will be eqipped with a high quality heatsink and fan to ensure quiet, reliable operation.

Prototype modules will be demonstrated May 22/2006. The location for this demonstration has yet to be determined. Due to the low volume nature of these products, emails indicating demand for either of the two units is greatly appreciated. Stay tuned for updates.

Sincerely,

Adam Kowalczyk

Also, the TS108 supports the more efficient MPX bus protocol, whereas the TS107 only supports the 60x protocol.

Not to mention DDR2 memory, which even if you forget the speed increase, is cheaper and easier to find than SDRAM.

Hi Samwel,

Maybe because nothing works on windros.

I just tried to burn the AOS4.0 #4 prerelease and it won't burn it.

Something is wrong.

The cocept of CISC vs. RISC is that RISC was done because it is faster, overall, than CISC is...... Therefore, and it only occurred to me now, except for the ram holding us back, this computer may be the quivalent of a ~2.3 GHz P4!!!!!

Such concept doesn’t hold true for any AMD/Intel X86 processors after K5/Pentium Pro(6th generation class processors) i.e. Netburst micro-architecture doesn't directly "execute" CISC. The performance is dependent on the actual micro-architecture implementation.

In general terms, an Intel CoreSolo @ ~1.3Ghz/FSB 667/2MB L2 cache will** beat Intel Pentium IV-Northwood @2.4Ghz/FSB533/512KB L2 cache. Equally true for the current AMD64 (NB FSB @core speeds) cores. **Already true from the older Intel Dothan core (Pentium M)’s perspective.

Have you factored in the existence of Intel Yonah/Merom (engineering release) and AMD Turion/Athlon/Opteron?

Get out of the wrong side of bed this morning? Wrong time of the month?

Come on, athiest means well. I doubt he is computer illiterate compared to someone picked at random from the high street - none of them could use BASIC, or would even know what a CPU is. Probably you are comparing him to the average Amiga user, who is likely to have at least 20 years experience using computers, and so will usually be fairly to very computer literate.

Jumping on athiest for just being slightly over-enthusiastic isn't the way keep AmigaWorld.net a bright & cheery place. Of course, if he started spamming one thread with (over-enthusiastic) non-sense, then something should obviously be said.

Will it work in an Amy '05?

Board specs say the cpu is soldered onto the board. Unless they change the design, then no.

@ Atheist.

Don't Copy burn it.

You need to go into file - create image (iso). Then when it asks you where you put the image.... use that.

With any luck the quietness from Troika means that they're redesigning the board to use a TS108 northbridge rather than the TS107. Otherwise, stuffing a 7448 in there isn't going to perform a whole lot better than on an A1. Cheers, Rich

Well, that's one possible reason why they're quiet I suppose...

I was sleeping about 3 hours this night (was also making something else, but mainly so I could check the "comming" newsitem)...

Nice one...

Been watching this thread since I came into work... expanded very quickly.

I must confess the timing of this news is brilliant (as ever with Amiga news I've noticed), as my interest and patience fades to almost giving up something happens.

It's just shame the demand would be much much higher if there was more Mobo's out there, but perhaps having 1.7ghz G4 available makes us look a tad more tangible to hardware manufacturers.

Extremely interested. I just need to find a few hundred quid

No complaints with the prices mind, small market & all that. It's just a little out of my reach at the moment.
