Whew! Opened a real can of worms there...
99% of the discussion is whether the RAM-disk is unique as claimed, and complaints that it doesn't run on Mac hardware. Predictable enough, I guess, but so disappointing to see how aggressively negative people can be. |

Which handle to I turn in order to work this rumour mill? _________________

Thats Microsoft ofcourse ! They just wanted to make Windows more stable and userfriendly, so they licensed ExecNG and Workbench to replace their own kernel and desktop. While paying Hyperion a LARGE amount of money so they can take a well deserved holiday

There are many products that could benefit from a compact efficient OS. For example, routers, xDSL modem, firewalls, you name it... There's no end to the possibilities Last edited by Smurfen on 30-Oct-2005 at 02:03 PM.

The important thing is that AmigaOS now can be ported from one PPC hardware platform to an other, now whit some big players whit some cash bags and some hardware to sell, they maybe have the cash to get Real Player and other common software ported.
I see no difference whit new operating systems and AmigaOS whit its legacy, way it can't have the same chance of getting some where, as symbian or Zeta or what ever, at least the POSIX compliance have made it a relative easy job to port not to complex Linux stuff to AmigaOS, Amiga allows commercial software and open source software to come to getter, some company's may find it attractive the low system requirements and the fact that it can run on PDA,MDA to a desktop computer, it makes quite easy to make client system that can run any where, whit out developing the software twist as done to day, whit the embedded versions of PocketPC and WindowsCE products. I realize now why I never got a response on my offer to create an official AmigaOS4 dedicated website for you, my suspicions that you already had something in the works was right.
From a professional's perspective, I simply must say that the guys behind it made a *really* good job. Don't mind the people complaining about W3C compliance, the number 1 priority is always that it works and displays correctly for the targetted audience. I know far too well how hard it can be to maintain Amiga browser compliance, especially when doing a dynamic website written in PHP like in this case. And then, I don't doubt that it took many hours of testing, especially if the developers were not familiar with the Amiga browser standards before.
Again, it's really a great job by everyone involved! Keep it up! Last edited by samface on 30-Oct-2005 at 02:30 PM.

| It better be real... ;)
If the OS4 PDA version for instance is running on an Ericsson product, I just gotta change department. How cool would it be to design software for my Ericsson company and also for my belowed Amiga OS. Can it be better... :)
But if Nokia is one of these mystery companies that will/is licensing the Amiga OS then I don't know what to do...

The RealPlayer source code can be downloaded from HelixPlayer. The only requirement is that you agree to pay Real a licence fee per unit sold.
As far as I remember, it is written in C++ and uses Python for the make scripts.

Yes I think deep inside it's good to be calm about "leakages", because we also learnt that we have to eat our words over and over and over again if it doesn't turn out good or if expectations where driven too high so that the "annoumcement" later were kind of a anti-climax. _________________ AmigaOS or MorphOS on x86 would sell orders of magnitude more than the current, hardware-intensive solutions.
