| Works fine and renders even pages with Cyrillic text and UTF encoded, which never were shown properly under IBrowse (only ??????s instead of text). _________________ Games, programs, reviews

| Great work, Andrea. We are proud to have a developer like you. You have spent so many night in developing/compiling, bearing my screenshot requests.

This will a very good task and in the Spirit of Amiga. |
So a browser using SDL to render its whole "interface" is in the spirit of Amiga. The spirit has got really low then. Quote:

6 months to recompile something that has almost 0% specific os code would be more accurate (which means only only add tweaks/work arounds to the code so that it runs on a "not so posix" system). Just for the record, compiling webkit is the easy part. Now if you also just use SDL to do the real display work, there's nothing left to do (almost). The real work resides in the native backend used to display and handle content (which would rely on QT, SDL, MUI, Reaction, whatever).
I'm really surprised noone sees the difference between recompiling and actually porting a sofware using native toolkit, but well, nevermind.
Still, it this browser evolves it can be useful, but i don't see how it's comparable to any other effort, and btw, it would be completely useless to ib or aweb teams. |

| @R-TEAM:
1) Had you actually donated any money to Sputnik bounty? 2) What stops anyone from donating to this browser also. 3) What is stopping this browser from becoming available in all Am*ga variants? _________________ Indigo 3D Lounge, my second home. The Illusion of Choice | Am*ga

Sorry, I seem to be mistaken. I was under the impression that the amizilla bounty had been split into 4 doable and equal parts, instead of the now humongous 4-system port. |
If you do a port to 3.1 you could almost guarantee all the four. Well planned it is not as show stopper as you may think.

I was also under the impression that it didn't require firefox per say, but rather a browser with similar functionality? |
It indeed needs, therefore it is named Amizilla... _________________ Indigo 3D Lounge, my second home. The Illusion of Choice | Am*ga

| Great news, this was very much needed. Good work Andrea, and good luck finnishing it. _________________ AmigaOS or MorphOS on x86 would sell orders of magnitude more than the current, hardware-intensive solutions. And they'd go faster.-- D.Haynie

yeah, but as I understand it pure 68k-version is going to be very difficult? Dunno how much a 4.0 effort will differ from a 3.1 effort considering things such as libraries and memory protection? maybe someone who has ported gnu-software to native versions of both OSes can enlighten me here?
I still believe that it is a folly to force any one team to do it to all platforms. While some people might not agree I would like to hear their proposals to get any work done on it at all?

Well. as I said, i didn't recall those details back then(including the name of the infamous $10k+ bounty). PM me any answer. We're hijacking this news comments thread about OWB.Last edited by Insanity on 25-Dec-2007 at 04:14 PM.

| If this browser evolves, it'll push IBrowse development further as IBrowse will need to catch up with these features fast, and give us something new. :) Last edited by Ancalimon on 25-Dec-2007 at 10:19 PM.

I'm sure most of us see the difference, but it's just good to have something modern here. Yes its lacking, yes most of us are going to use IBrowse2.4 as our main browsers for now, but its working, and is a step in the right direction. Fce2 and marcik's efforts are more interesting for sure, because as you say they use native UI's, but for now at least, this is the best effort that OS4 users can run.
I donated 50 euro to the Sputnik on OS4 bounty btw. I'm not just a whinger. :) |
