@Skyraker

Edit: And here I was thinking something to at least renew my hopes that something was afoot, but saddly, it appears it was a hoax.

Don't feel bad. I've heard way crazier stories in private than THIS one. Heh!
In fact, that hoax isn't even funny compared to some others...

The only possible result I can see, is that you hope to drag other Amiga users with you, when you Leave The Amiga in 7 days.

I'm under no illusion that anyone will care either way WHAT I do or don't do, so no, this is neither my intent or hope. Unlike what you're implying, I don't have such an ego or high opinion of myself to think anyone follows my actions so closely.

Then again, if you believe in conspiracy theories and the supernatural, then you might see that post, which was my 666th on AW.NET, as a sign from Satan and proof that I'm up to no good!

My only hope at this point is that Amiga Inc. and Hyperion will have gotten their act together and at long last make an official announcement that they (AInc. that is) have issued a license to ACube or some other HW manufaturer to distribute AOS4 with their boards(s). I'm not even expecting to see AOS4 running on any hardware, just an official annoucement regarding the license being issued. If they can't even manage that after all of this time, then to me this beyond lame. Is that expecting SO much?!?! I don't think so, but then again, that's just me.

Given the lack of hardware... and the number of times a hardware system seems to be in the offing... it would seem that Hyperion will be pushed or would be smart to consider making the OS more hardware agnostic... so you can run it on any PPC hardware.

This closed hardware OS stuff is killing the Amiga for lack of hardware.

It's not doing Hyperion's bottom line any good either... as they stand to gain a lot more if they sell some OS's... instead of stopping people from buying the OS for non-kosher hardware they should be encouraging it.

Bring on the G5 Amiga! Recycle your Macs!!!

@Slick

Re:agnostic hardware
Hyperion's ideas on this would vary from the Friedens.
Read how Hyperion has made it's money in the past and this should be quite clear.
Re:mac
Idea discussed by Adam and Bill many times and rejected.
All this has been discussed here before.

What makes you think Hyperion wants any of us to be in this situation?

We need a few things to happen. First, Hyperion need to find a way to become allowed to do such a thing, and I'm sure they're working on that. Not for Mac specifically, but for anything at all, which could include Macs. Second, we need to change the "no documentation" problem. Not many people seem interested in helping with that though, and I don't care to do it all myself. See amiga mac wiki to help out. I'd love to "recycle" my iBook G4... But simply asking them to port OS4 to Mac has proven to be one of those infinite loop things, we need to change the request a little and see if a different (even slightly) input has any effect on the output.

ok. But if AI plays any part in this, it won't happen, unless they have changed course on this since Adam and I posted on this.
AI rejected the idea of OS4 on mac on all accounts. Nothing to do with Hyperion.

Recipe for an Amiga news thread:
Take one announcement. Slice it lengthways, and remove all of the details.
Add fresh speculation, and bring to the boil.
Strain until thoroughly drained and dry.
Beat vigorously, mixing in dried old rumour powder and natural colourings (red or blue).
Pour into a greased tin and flame roast.
Wait until it's done.
Leave the mess for the moderators to clear up.

This all sounds very interesting, but it doesn't _really_ tell us anything about what we're going to get, or when, or from whom.

Odd, because i have mail from Amiga INC saying otherwise. This was the mail that helgis shared some months ago to much skepticism, but i saw the mail with my own eyes as he forwarded it.

You are certainly free to believe Helgis instead of posts made by those familiar with the project. That is your choice.

Geez lots of conspiracy theories.

Looks to me AOS4 for the classic machines is ready and Hyperion doesn't want to be bothered selling it to the public. Makes sense to me as they are not really set up to do retail.

So basically what they are saying, if you want OS4 for your classic Amiga contact Acube.
It also means that if you have an A1 board from lets say ebay without a copy of OS4 you can buy the CD from Acube instead off pestering Hyperion for it.

If I remember correctly the very early A1's did not automatically get a copy ofOS4.
So those people can now get a copy of OS4 from Acube if it pleases them.

Everything else is just pure speculation and rumor mongering.

I wonder if "distribution" also implies some sort of OS-support (installation, etc.) by ACube. Rogue mentioned some time ago (before the "priority bump" for BPPC/CPPC) that it would be one hell of a job to support OS4 on BPPC/CPPC because of the variety of different configurations and add-on hardware. So maybe it *could* be a wise decision to get rid of that. Things can only get better Re: support anyway.
