A bit of good news in such a drought lately. Now if we could get news on some next gen PPC cards for the classics, that would be even better.

One question though, how short is "shortly".

Come on, we all already know how many weeks "shortly" is.

Is there any significance to the phrase 'Hyperion's Amiga OS 4.0'?

I thought Hyperion were contracted to produce OS 4.0 by AInc?

@all involved

Keep up the good work, regardless of all the FUD and doom and gloom some enjoy spreading so much.
Facts, not words. I just love it.

I was thinking along the same lines, maybe they have come to some arrangement with Amiga Inc, at least I hope so

Interesting.....

Now lets wait some more....

I hope Ainc sold the rights (or lost them for that matter) of OS4 to Hyperion and Hyperion can do what they want with it.

Well.. well..well.....

It was about time. At least that I can say.
Not bad for a whiner and FUD spreader like me, eh?

But I'll pass on my cheering and banana dancing until I hear
something about the licence preferably from AMIGA INC.

If you can read, then you don't want to understand.
F.ex., here's a fact:
Quote:

ACube will act as a worldwide distributor of Hyperion's Amiga OS 4.0 operating system for a range of PPC hardware platforms including AmigaOne (MicroA1, SE/XE) and Classic Amiga.

i.e. ACube *is* going to distribute AOS4.0.
Another fact (which is a container of the fact above) is that ACube works together with Hyperion (to push AmigaOS 4.0 forward, of course).
Besides these facts, there are hints that something good is about to come. But not because they are just hints the facts above are not facts.
By saying that the announcement contains "only words .... very vaque words" you only spread more of the same old FUD.

Feels like an assertion of ownership and a consolidation of forces,
but I note the word Amiga has not fallen off the name of the OS.
Now I wait to see what else is happening.

Every cooperation in the Amiga market is very appreciated. Too few are doing so. This is a good step. But what is it going to change? All A1 owners already got their OS4 licence and install media, so there is nothing to distribute to them atm (and new A1s aren't available). Classics have not. Does it mean that OS4Classic will be released soon?

Ah! but here is an answer for those who find themselves without an OS4,
either because their dealer fell over and never registered it or because
the A1 is second hand and reregistering is a problem or OS4 was not included.

@saimo

It doesn't answer when and what price the Sam will be released.

It doesn't answer if when and at what price OS4 will run on it.

It doesn't answer how OS4 will run on it (with AInc's consent, or against it).

It does raise the question why Acube should get involved in distributing OS4 for A1 and classic.

Which offcourse raises the question why OS4 for A1 needs any distribution.

Next there is the question why the felt the need for this announcement announcement, instead of just spilling the beans or just waiting that extra week.

Maybe, just maybe.... The Classic PPC licensed OS4 CD will just happen to "accidentally" boot and install on the SAM440 board that ACube also happen to distribute?

What personal attack?
