It's interesting to see that the new site was submitted as a News item on ann, but seems to have been "edited for clarity" (read "deleted").

We don't want to see any good news on ann do we?

On the other hand, there's quite a reasonable thread on Amiga.org.

As far as I'm concerned, Hyperion, AmigaOS4 & the AmigaOne ARE Amiga.
Amiga Inc. hasn't really done much to promote the Amiga (not overtly interfering,
but not exactly doing more than being a speedbump on the road of progress)!

Aaaaaa I'm going to die here you know if you continue to tease us like that. Just kidinng.
I would be more happy to find out all the details when AmigaOS 4.0 is done.
There is just one problem, the closer it gets it's harder to wait.

OSnews already has an article about this, and are discussing missing information like specs, etc.

A real Amiga operating system (How far can gold be?) and a professional web site too:

I’m bursting with joy, pride and relief ..it has been a very long wait.

Thanks Hyperion et al!

Read it all and still dealing with the info and idea of an official AOS4 site......!

Really like the sections on RAM disk and the Datatypes and..... There is so much to like there
I need to re-read it.

@ Soft
Love the passion you displayed and so nicely articulated.

@Quarl
Welcome and thanks for posting.

Oh finally a nice official site for AmigaOS4
Nice graphic and nice "public relations"
But...is it very difficult to use w3c validator while you wrote it? >;-p
Result:

Failed validation, 93 errors

Apple's site shows 3 errors and microsoft's one shows 0 errors...ehmm

Sure you're going to fix it...IMO after you should show w3c banner

P.S.: I like so much new OS4's icons

No offense but do you really believe that the professionals who designed this site were not aware of this?

We needed to ensure that the site works properly on the current Amiga browsers without sacrificing quality which rules out full compliance with the current W3C guidelines.

A lot of effort went into testing the site with Amiga browsers.

Hi Ben! Long time no write.

Having pros do the website is the only real way. Nice to see and a good result. I bet they found it 'interesting' to have to cater for the Amiga browsers ... a new set of problems and software to get aquanted with I'm sure.

Let's hope the cross-usability with mobile/integrated devices is a tangible market for AmigaOS4, something to finally produce well-deserved revenue for Hyperion and other companies involved in the Amiga scene.

Well, congratulations to Hyperion for finally putting up a website that does justice to OS4. Hopefully this means that you're roughly on schedule for a Christmas 2005 release?

There is a dark cloud to this silver lining though, which is why I'm not exactly jumping with joy even though this is very good news... and that is that there is NO NEW HARDWARE one can buy to run this new OS when it comes out. Sure, technically there is - I can place an order for an uA1 and wait months for it to arrive (assuming there's enough demand to manufacture another batch), or I can skip the order part and wait months to see if the Troika project ever makes it past the pixel stage into actual hardware. In real life though, we're pretty much stuck with a limited user base that is steadily diminishing as boards die from wear or people get disillusioned and leave. I pretty much fit into both of those (I have an XE that's acting flakey, but I don't see much reason to do something about it), yet my inner Helgis keeps me looking here every couple of weeks. Sure, there are hints of better things to come, like the references to "9xx CPUs" and "PDA screens", but I've been burned too many times and I'm numb to those now. Here's hoping that things get better, but I cannot in all honesty say that I'll be shocked if they don't.

NO NEW HARDWARE = NO NEW USERS = AMIGA RIP

No, we're not going to fix it. We felt that we had to add these errors so people would have at least something to complain about

No, honestly, W3C validation is all nice and dandy, but Apple and Microsoft don't try to make their websites look good on Amiga browsers. We did, and the result can be viewed on AWeb and IBrowse as well as IE, Firefox and Safari. Believe me that working for a CSS-capable browser would have been much easier and would have ended up with zero errors as well, but sadly, we don't have that yet.

I think it says a lot about Hyperion's commitment to the Amiga community and their attention to detail that they even bothered to try to make it work on Amiga browsers. The fact that "A lot of effort went into testing the site with Amiga browsers." is testament of their high standards!
