Software News   Software News : IT'S DONE!
posted by Rogue on 24-Dec-2006 15:59:13 (140644 reads)
Leuven, Belgium, 24 December 2006.

Hyperion-entertainment is very pleased to announce the immediate availability (for registered AmigaOne customers) of Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update.

Originally released in May of 2004, Amiga OS 4.0 (www.amigaos4.com) is the most stable, modern and feature-rich incarnation to date of the multi-media centric operating system launched by Commodore Business Machines (CBM) in 1985 with which it still retains a high degree of compatibility.

Amiga OS 4.0, The Final Update is the culmination of 5 years of development and takes the form of a stand-alone ISO image which contains a full installation of all Amiga OS 4.0 components.

A list of new features can be found here .

Availability of PowerPC hardware suitable for operation with Amiga OS 4.0 will be announced by third parties early 2007.

The Hyperion Entertainment management would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and supporters a pleasant holiday season!

Why do you want to ask/know ?

I find it strange that only people who have previously stated they are not interested in OS4 ask these questions.

So... why do you want to know ?

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH

And I wondered why I left the amiga community. I have moved over the the Mac territories but I thought that I would wish Hyperion all the best with this great news of OS4 being put into final status. I was also hoping that there would be a beta release for my A1200PPC sitting quietly in the corner so that I could play around with OS4 and help support it in some small way.

But anyway, I hope that you all had a great christmas (those who celebrate it in all its forms), have a great new year!

All the best for the future Hyperion!

Congratulations for OS4 Final
...but i think that in a future Amiga and in the 2007 the support for a Geforce cards, OpenGl, usb 2 driver, amigainput, updated driver for new printer drivers (pictbridge), a similar wordpad program, infrared driver and so on are missing... and Hyperion must fill this big gap offering more software (e.g.:office suite) and more games...
I hope that when OS4 is gold contain a patch that fix the many issues, and a lot of aminet, osdepot and shareware programs for the home-end users that want to use and enjoy with the OS4.
I whishes a bright future for Os4 - 4.x..

Luke

Is DvPlayer part of OS4 (unlikely, as it isn't included in the "OS4 changes since update 4" page), or is it just included as a contrib, meaning that it is shareware that needs to be paid for if you actually intend to use it for real? Because, you know, MooVid was supposed to be included with OS4.0.

So you don't even know if it's included or not but your still bitching? I know that it's there because when I installed OS4 Final I found it already on the docky!!!

You are really a sad individual. I'm starting to see why that other site got created. There are people happy with this release. Can you please stop polluting this thread?

@BobW

Actually them few individuals, that have come here to pollute absolutely every announcement or news thread relating to OS4 with the most trivial and silly questions possible and then repeat and twist the same trivial and silly questions 20 times. Well what's the reasons? Oh yeah I know!

Congratulations Hyperion for another new milestone! Cheers!

I'm a bit late (as usual) but I would just like to add my heartfelt thanks for this effort and do sincerely wish to see continued efforts by all the unsung heroes of this saga.

You have my continuing support and I hope in the long run it will prove profitable.

Great job Hyperion. I dont know what's happening on the official Amiga side, but it looks like we have a nice & elegant product here. I've got an clunky & noisy Windows PC, I hope I will have the opportunity to replace it soon with something sexier.

@EntilZha:

I'm interested in OS4, but how interested I am is dependent on how I view the future of the Amiga. As it looks now, I might buy an OS4 machine if a low cost ppc machine comes on the market, but I'm not willing to spend a lot of effort developing for it, as I view the PPC path a major mistake (But it's your decision).

If an x86 port was announced, my priorities would be completely altered, and I'd be willing to develop for it, and invest a lot of time and money.

IMO, the questions posed by Fabio and Bernie are fair, and deserve an honest answer. If there are legal reasons for not answering them, just say so. Attacking the messenger only puts you in a bad light and kills your credibility.

Regards,

Vidar

Cool. So, how do I, as a first-hand owner of an AmigaOne XE get a registration code so I can get OS4 final? I did not buy my XE used. I never got a prerelease CD. I never got a registration code. I tried contacting Hyperion and was assured it would be taken care of, but after a year of occasional nagging I gave up long ago. Now I'd like to renew my attempt to get what I paid for as part of the AmigaOne purchase price. Please, someone, help me get this sorted out. I'm out of town so can't provide motherboard serial number or anything, but if I at least can find out who to talk to when I get home and what I need to provide that'd be great so I can get everything together and send it to the right person ASAP.

I guess we've all waited a long time to say this, so CONGRATULATIONS Hyperion, and the OS4 team!

Yes, I know that I'm shouting, but you only get one shot, right? Anyway, I won't post any dancing fruit. Looking forward to the hardware announcements to come.

one thing though..
Does it run Wipeout 2097 and what of the compatibility with other Warp3D and WarpOS games?

It might be a dumb question to some, but I don't know :)

However, I readily agree that (a) the thing was priced too high, and that (b) several features promised by VMC were missing. I don't know how you consider that relevant, because (a) was due to H&P, and (b) due to Harald being a lazy, incompetent ####. And yes, I have five year old mails saying those very same things, and screaming for both H&P and Harald to do their beeping job. So I am not sure what you'd try to achieve by it.

No-one forced you to work with them.
Remeber your solo project, Umilator?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it end it's life in the vapour department?
