As it should be. Can I buy my new Amiga yet?

The other day I was just having a look at Hyperion's New Years greeting and found the part of that sentence again that was still nagging at me:
Quote:
Users of AmigaOne hardware will also be in for a major treat in early H1/2008 and they certainly will not be the only ones.

Again, Hyperion kept their word and I do appreciate that very, very much. And of course a big thank you to the devteam! I appreciate your dedication to the cause.

Early next week we're about to set out on holiday for a week and a half. 't Will be real feast when we return and OS4.1 appears to be on sale.

(THINKING_ALOUD_MODE ON)
Ehm, hang on, the weather in all of Europe is pretty bad, except Italy (Tuscany). May be moving down into the boot and could maybe collect a copy? Have to take this up with the missus.

I don't think classics would have enough 'grunt' for this release. As I said on IRC earlier, the BVision is already screaming Steve

The graphics card wouldn't be an issue as there is the possibility to use a Radeon with a classic.

The lack of CPU power may well be an issue I suppose.

Even if I almost stopped using my Amiga, I think I will buy this.
But some things:

I think the Radeon 7000 of the µ1A is not R1xx or R2xx. So no transparency on µ1A?

I saw on the screenshots, that AmiDock is complete transparent, even the icons. That's not very good. Does it mean, that windows cannot have a real alpha channel? The screenshot with the dices may show the opposite, but why not AmiDock?

There is still no word about AmigaInput. That's what I miss mostly.

Hm, and I think the round corners of the windows don't fit to the design... The window buttons are looking like if there were at wrong positions. Somehow strange.
Aaaaannnnd: The box design is not very beautiful. 4.0 was nicer. But okay, the box is not so important as it won't stand in a real shop, I think.

Okay, but anyway. Nice to get an update

I agree... I suspect that part of the reason the release is called "4.1" is to draw a line in the sand with respect to the past and the future.

Or maybe it is another way how to sold few copies to AmigaOne owners like they did with OS4 for classic machines.

Anyway great news!

Cool but someone hit the nice clean OS4 GUI with the ugly brush...

Screenshots included in the OS 4.1 announcement showing some really nice new features but hey Hyperion really don't know how to sell their goods.
Why not to show some state of the art imba whatever looking screenshots everybody see and have to say "wow cool", instead of the semi-customized awful pictures taken after midnight and several beers...

"New and improved DOS functionality (full 64 bit support)"

I thought that 64bit support was in previous update (without FS but with 64bit DOS)

Wow. The guys at Hyperion are excelling themselves. Really wish there wasn't this lawsuit so more of us could join the party though. PS3 version would be great as I now have the fellow.

This is great!

Following on from MOS2 this shows that there is still potential for competition in the Amiga PPC land.

I hope the hardware situation gets sorted soon.

The Radeon 7000 aka Rv100 is the same class of accelerator as the R1xx, i.e. the compositing and transparency effects are fully supported.

That is because I still have the old AmiDock. The new one will have transparent background and opaque icons. As you point out yourself, the dice are an example of a window with an alpha channel.

As you can see on one of the shots, you can give a separate alpha value to the active window, inactive windows, and dragged windows, that's why the AmigaDock is partially transparent.

AmigaInput is included.

If you ask for a favorite color, you will get approximately 10^6 different answers. The same with user interface styles. Some people will love it, some will hate it. There is still support for your own themes, so I am quite sure people will come up with "better" (relatively speaking) designs.

I am not the very typical German and I cordially hate beer. On top of that, I've done these shots Thursday afternoon (well before midnight).

I don't really know what you mean with "imba", but this was mostly to show what the new OS can do. As such, the screenshots do exactly that I think. The look is not customized at all because it is supposed to show what things look like after a standard installation. I could make it look like MacOS X, but what is the point?

Additional areas of the API have been extended to 64 bits, for example directory scanning and Examine() were not 64 bit aware.
